Welcome to Another 52 Licks, one lick each week for 2020. UNDERRATED DRUMMERS! It's time to give some monsters who don't get enough love some attention. Let's start with a drummer who would have been on many more major recordings and concerts if he hadn't been in the Military and in Paris in the 40's and moved to Paris again in the 60's. He's one of the founding fathers of bebop: Mr. Kenny Clarke.

Thought I’d send you a lick! Al Foster on Blue Mitchell’s “One Shirt” from Down With It. How he starts the first solo off with a bang of a phrase at 0:57. His whole comping during the solos has a kind of driving attitude to it (not sure how to better describe it, but its cool!)

Al Foster is my next lick! A cool PDD phrase he does with McCoy. He's so underrated. I might do this Foster lick as well, though. Maybe down the road? Thanks for the lick!
