Switching from playing on the hi hat Jazz Swing, to the ride cymbal can be challenging, this lesson will help you know when to make the change and nail the transition.

I never really understood what "Playing in 2" meant -- does it just mean playing swing on the hi-hat?

Thanks for the answer Von! I guess I’m confused, in this video aren’t you still hitting the hat on the 2 and 4? It looks like the same spang-a-lang pattern as on the ride.

That is correct, you simply take the pattern you normally play on the Ride and move it to the hi-hat with an additional slight accent on the "a" of counts 2 and 4 when you open the hats. That is correct but there's a slight modification we make when we move to the hats from the ride to keep things swinging. Please see my other comment below.
