I can never say too much about the kindness of Charlie. I met him in 1968 in Chicago when he was playing for Billy Ekstein. I went to breakfast with charlie, the bass player and pianist. What an honor.

Charlie Persip was always one of the best small group and big band drummers of the post bop and hard bop era. I especially liked his work with Dizzy' big band of the mid fifties.

This is fantastic - it explains one of the Monk's most baffling recorded solos!

What song is this solo on?

It is "Bags' Groove". Monk doodles around on E and F, going down to D.
