leave it to a genius like Terence Blanchard to take a classic tune like Footprints and put his own indelible stamp on it . Great rendition and performance. I regret that the pandemic took away the opportunity for me to see him live at Disney Hall in LA but I've since become a big fan and hope to see him there in the future !!!

The saxman cautiously and carefully cites his introductory thesis statement, and then moves on with his 'Tranesque discourse which satisfies any appeal for an encore. Terrence is somewhat reserved; perhaps enveloped by performance lassitude and rhythmic ennui. The 80s met him a team mate of Donald Harrison on alto and soprano saxophones. Oh, how their performances recall those of Eric Dolphy! 'Crescent City' is my favorite by the duet. What's the name of the saxist? I adore him - his approach. Thanks for sharing!

Blanchard and Winston actually wrongly come in to play the head when the rhythm section is at the chorus (or 16 bars in) so Parks' chord is correct, and the rhythm section then follows the trumpet/sax.
@BryanLewisMusic
@BryanLewisMusic 4 жыл бұрын
@@MarkTarmannPianoCheck_it_out The pianist is following the form and hits the first chord of the turnaround, but trumpet/sax come in at the top instead, and the pianist makes the correct move of following them at that point.

Man the bass player is killing the vibe hard. He's too much in his head space and not feeling the beat!

@1jazztypeguy
@1jazztypeguy 8 жыл бұрын
There's a difference in playing the parts and feeling the parts. You can look at Aaron parks on several occasions and see him giving direction to the bass player on where the beat is. Terence even notices several times throughout the performance.

This performance is not cool at all. They should listen to Miles Davis's performance and should learn how this tune should be played. Footprints is the mysterious tune, but this band played it as a "Happy Funk"
