Thanks a lot, playing for years, but first time I really see a good video to how to build bebop improv. Most of time, it's licks but not foundation. thanks bro

Thanks you so much! How about 2 chords in one bar (like short 2-5) do we practice in the same way? I'm working on Honeysuckle Rose.

Could we use scale tone below and half step above to target chord tones as well?

Definitely!

Why is scale note above so much harder to land in the right place? Semitone below is fine, so is scale note above, semitone below but simply scale note above I find really difficult! Anyone else?
@jazzpianoschool
@jazzpianoschool 3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes what seems difficult is easy and what seems easy is actually difficult - and also what may be easy for one person may be difficult for another, and vice versa. What is important is that you’ve identified this, that is the first step to tackling this challenge! Now step 2 is to work on it! Thanks for the comment

So then if I play a wrong chord on stage, I need to play the wrong solo too?
@jazzpianoschool
@jazzpianoschool 5 жыл бұрын
Hey @Rory, thanks for watching! Not sure I understand your question exactly. There is some definitive right and wrong for sure - for example: for example cracking a note, or going to the bridge early and messing up the form -- these can be defined as mistakes. However, when it comes to harmony -- there is a lot more flexibility not just with extensions and alterations but substitutions as well. Hope this helps!

Nice lesson, but I think your examples are too simple. It's not really Bebop-ey, there are no triplets. And when you play fast Bebop lines, you don't repeat it in slow-mo. I'm just hoping if you could demonstrate real Bebop lines (the kind that jazz pianists play) and break it down. Thanks
