Obviously the JBL's sound better if you want to sit back and listen to music. But what is the purpose of a studio monitor? The Yamaha's have been around since the 70's not because they sound good, but because they sound so bad. If you can make your mix sound good on a pair of Yamaha HS5s, the mix will sound good on everything else.

So I’ll tell everyone this. I’ve literally had both and why the JBLs sound amazing. If you really want to mix and master your own work the Yamahas are the way to go. Something people need to conisder when producing music is less about how a speaker sounds and more about how it responds. This is what really matters when trying to get exact recreation of sound to pass through a speaker e.g how long a speaker resonates after a sine wave signal has passed through it. There is a reason old yamaha speakers are so popular in studios even though they can sound 'terrible'

@@maxklassen254 That's not why the Yamaha's are popular lol. It's because, when paired with a dedicated subwoofer, they provide a more dynamic sound profile, since the monitors focus on and specialize in the mid and high frequencies. Without one though, you are certainly missing most of the low end frequencies.
@maxdergroe90822 жыл бұрын
@@redacted_158 Coming back to it, I certainly see your point. They certainly are a great tool to pin-point instruments without the disturbance of heavy bass coming from the JBL's for example but from a normal consumer stand point the 305p's withpout the subwoofer just offer a better package than the HS5's. But I'd be really intrested in seeing how both now stack up with their paired subwoofers. So the LSR310s with the 305p's and the HS8S with the HS5.
