There is warmth and full frequency fill in the original tracks and JBL comes much closer to original track sound.

Obviously the JBL's sound better if you want to sit back and listen to music. But what is the purpose of a studio monitor? The Yamaha's have been around since the 70's not because they sound good, but because they sound so bad. If you can make your mix sound good on a pair of Yamaha HS5s, the mix will sound good on everything else.

So I’ll tell everyone this. I’ve literally had both and why the JBLs sound amazing. If you really want to mix and master your own work the Yamahas are the way to go. They give you a more realistic version of the track. You don’t want all the warmth the JBLs produce. You want the sound to be pure as possible

Something people need to conisder when producing music is less about how a speaker sounds and more about how it responds. This is what really matters when trying to get exact recreation of sound to pass through a speaker e.g how long a speaker resonates after a sine wave signal has passed through it. There is a reason old yamaha speakers are so popular in studios even though they can sound 'terrible'

People keep saying about how this and this speakers sound "closer to source track". That is not the point of studio monitors. If close to source is what you are after, then you should be looking at audiophile speakers instead.
@TheRealSamPreece

@@Spacely72 I cant really say as ive never heard them irl but yea All that really matters for me is that the speaker reveals the true form of the sound, rather than sugar-coating whats being produced.

At 3:52 it's very apparent BUT the Yamahas are popular because they sound so bad compared to the other ones... if u can make a song sound good on the Yamahas its gonna sound good on anything
@redacted_158
@redacted_158 4 жыл бұрын
@@maxklassen254 That's not why the Yamaha's are popular lol. It's because, when paired with a dedicated subwoofer, they provide a more dynamic sound profile, since the monitors focus on and specialize in the mid and high frequencies. Without one though, you are certainly missing most of the low end frequencies.
@maxdergroe9082
@maxdergroe9082 2 жыл бұрын
@@redacted_158 Coming back to it, I certainly see your point. They certainly are a great tool to pin-point instruments without the disturbance of heavy bass coming from the JBL's for example but from a normal consumer stand point the 305p's withpout the subwoofer just offer a better package than the HS5's. But I'd be really intrested in seeing how both now stack up with their paired subwoofers. So the LSR310s with the 305p's and the HS8S with the HS5.

I find a lot of these comments interesting… Thank you for including the original track. If that includes stadium sound in the original track then it helps to figure out which speaker is giving out a true representation of what was recorded vs what is being filtered out by the speaker. Tight sound is great if that is what was in the original recording.

For mixing flatter response, but for just listening to enjoy music go closer to the source... In Mixing you want your music to sound good on different speakers, and some speakers sound good and some not as good... Some people have ear pods and iPhone speakers... If your mix sounds good on flat response speakers, the more chances are that they'll sound good everywhere else...

I am considering the Vanatoo Transparent Zeros. They are a boutique level company with 2 Engineers who took 7 years to put out their first product and I found out about them through Joshua Valour. I would love to hear a comparison between those and the JBL 305p here. I believe Vanatoo is based in Oregon or somewhere in the PNW. I wish I had an affiliation with them to hook the two of you up; as a newbie to the audiophile scene, I think many like me would benefit. Thank you for your work regardless!

Really hard to make a decision, Yamaha has its certain position in industry. JBL sound nicer. Finally, realised I'm not producing music for a living, don't focus on the sound balance, put it on main part of use for. Very large amount of time just uses it as PC speaker for entertaining. Delivered today, thanks for the comparison, exactly same sound in this video. Love the HF, JBL typical. Clarity meet my request. Happy with the compromised choice.

I have to decide what to buy and I have always wanted to buy the Yahama HS5 or HS7. but I was wondering: here the monitors are compared starting from a song already mastered and mixed (almost an audiophile comparison). I was wondering if you use the speakers for an untreated bedroom home studio, for the exclusive use of mixes and masters, shouldn't the sound remain mostly flat and neutral as it actually seems to be that of yahamas?

@@honeste6652 If you send a known sound through a studio monitor, such as 60hz, you should get that 60hz sound back. The HS5's don't. You then might over compensate by adding a ton more bass so they sound good on HS5's but then on everyone elses speakers, it'll sound too boomy, too muddy.

@@garavonhoiwkenzoiber Agreed, which is why you shouldn't be using just these if your music has frequencies below that, but rather add a sub with crossover.

I'm listening to this using Sennheiser HD800 (which are supposedly quite linear) and 305 is waaay closer to the source track than the HS5. Bass is lacking in both, obviously, but the rest is quite close in 305.

It might not seem to be a big deal on record but the Yamahas are harsh trash. And on top of that they have a tendency to be overpriced. The JBLs just blow them out of the water.
