JBL CRISTALPROFI E902 GREENLINE UNBOXING - EXTERNAL FILTER

JBL e902 unboxing - I received a JBL cristalprofi e902 greenline external filter after taking out a two year subscription to Practical Fishkeeping.
In this video I unbox the new aquarium canister filter and have a look around its offerings. With a new pre filter and lower energy consumption, it looks like JBL have made some good improvements since the previous JBL 901 series.

Hooray!! So glad I found your channel. I’ve been looking for a review on one of these filters for ages. I have a reef tank and I’m looking for a new external filter for it. I had one of the old jbl filters years ago and although it was a good filter it was a nightmare to prime, I did like the old design with the small pieces of course sponge either side to trap initial waste, even though they did block quickly. Anyway after watching this video I might give one a go, I just hope the new ones are easier to prime. I look forward to seeing a video of you setting it up. Thanks again for a great review.

Is this good for 80x35x40 turtle half empty 50-60L tank? Cause e402 after an hour or two starts to get air pockets and i have to empty the canister and put more water in the tank so i can start it all over. i am really trying to find something that has enough power and the spray bar doesn’t need to be at water level.

@@XanaFernandes I bought one in the end, it’s not the quietest pump ever there is definitely a hum which would annoy me in a bedroom. It might just be my filter but if you want silent look to aquael or eheim

@@FishPieTV Thanks for your answer and the suggestions. I need it for the aquarium in the bedroom, so I guess it's a no-go. The Oase Filtosmart Thermo 200 is really noisy and it's getting on my nerves (so is the 100). ;) Aquael would not be my first choice, since two friends had problems and they had absolutely no assistance from the brand - had to throw the filters away, and they're not cheap... It's incredible how all brands sell filters by stating "no noise". =D

@@XanaFernandes maybe give eheim a go there are loads of spares for those filters if they do go wrong, they are among the quietest I’ve owned, perhaps Fluval too I’ve heard they are quiet

Hi, thanks for the nice video. Do you still have this filter? What media do you use with it and how would you suggest to order the baskets in the filter?

Course sponge for the prefilter. Then course to medium to fine sponge at bottom. Followed by filter floss. Then either it will be biological filtration in that one can't remember precisely but some seachem matrix, biohome, or ceramic balls most likely

@@FishBeast Thanks for the reply. I got this filter a few days ago. If I understand correctly the water comes in the prefilter and falls to the sides. Then it goes up, firstly through JBL's glass-ceramic balls, then through two sets of medium sponges and lastly through a fine sponge. That's the default ordering of the baskets. Do you approve it? Wouldn't it be better to put the sponges before the ceramic media? And also, what would you recommend - 2 baskets with sponges and 1 basket with ceramic media or 2 ceramic and 1 sponge?

@@Bru7aLis Sponges first. Depends how you get it to fit. If sponge prefilter, the prob get first tray sponges then second tray one sponge at bottom then biological filtration (so split) and then third tray just biological filtration.

I was thinking of something similar, but my split was going to be biological in the middle and sponge on the outside (as you demonstrated in the video the sponge is cut in the middle by default), but I think your suggestion is better. @@Bru7aLis no worries you just want all the dirt to be taken in by the sponges, then clean water flows into any chemical or biological filtration afterwards. If mucky water gets to the biological before hand it will clog up far quicker.

What about the performance? My e902 has lost a lot of its power! Creates about 200-300 liters but certainly not 900 Have already cleaned everything What are the experiences?

Clean the hoses. This filter capacity is 900 without media and hoses. With clean media and hoses 380 - 450. So when the hoses are a little bit dirty and the media it will be less

All I can say is no wonder this filter was free. Apparently easy to start but I've not been able to prime it despite following everything to a tee. Going in the bin and I'll welcome back fluval.

@@FishBeast yeah it's a Roma 240 tank so the hoses just reach so I don't know why. Maybe I have a dud. I use a 306 so this was to compliment it but if I'd bought it I'd be sending it back. Thanks though.

Good filter terrible fittings good trays bad media don't even come with a fine polishing pad it's cheap to run good on energy I got the large model 1902 avoid the big ones I got a flood
