@@KareezyG can’t go wrong with either. The 580s are quite large so keep that in mind but are incredible for the money when on sale.The 570s are really fun speakers that are like a juiced up 530, I like the looks of the 570 better too but that’s subjective.

What amp is best for 590? I didn't like my old hk avr with them, one pioneer I tried is way better than another pioneer avr I tried, ao7 is impressive for a cheap little thing, but haven't found the right match. I have six 590 to drive, and perhaps two 530 to use with them. The amp pairing seems critical.

@cisco150

@Zack W I think it could be bigger. I just bump up the center volume, and it works well. I also have a Jbl 235c does sound more but have more bass to the voices, and sound is a bit different than the 590 and 580. You can always use 1 580 or 590 for the center channel; a lot of people are doing that and placing them sideways.

My group of friends collectively own far too many JBL studio series. They keep going on sale for 50-60% off and are a fantastic bargain at those prices. I was the first with my 580's, but the group now has multiple of every single one. I have only heard the 580 I own and 570 I gave my little brother. They have the same signature and quality. Just smaller and they sound smaller. Everyone in the group is very happy with their respective purchase(s). In the bookshelf catagory, I would take a hard look at the KEF Q150. One of my friends sent me a set recently and they are unbelievably good for their size and price. ($350 at the time.) They trade blows with my 580's and LCD-4 headphones. Presentations very of course, but quality and enjoyment are high across all this different equipment.

Nice video! I purchased the JBL Studio 570's about a year ago, direct from JBL for 50% retail. I agree, this was the bargain of my lifetime! I really enjoy low/moderate level listening with them. Setup is about 8 feet apart, and 3 feet from the back wall. These "mini towers" sound great! I thought they might need some small stands, but they don't! They are in my living room, which has wood floors and is a very open room. I think the room is perfect for these JBL speakers.

@@HeavyBeats24 The amp is a PS Audio S300, recently replaced in my home office with a Yamaha A-S2200. My source is an Oppo Sonica DAC, which I wasn't using anymore. Interesting that you say they are good at low level listening, most reviews say they need to be cranked up a bit to sound good, but then that they don't get very loud either so it's a small window of SPL where they sound their best. That's why I never bought a pair even though I'm always tempted by the crazy sales. I think they look cool as long as you leave the grilles on.

If you select cables that will let the quality of your equipment shine, it WILL make a difference. Sam Tellig from Stereophile recommended an inexpensive speaker cable that Radio Shack put out 8 to 10 years ago. Flatline 14 guage cables that cost $24.99 for 50 feet. They were OK, but then I was reading about Mapleshade products and decided to try there $200 speaker cables and interconnects at $175 a pair. I tried listening to the speaker cables first and the timing and pace of the music just snapped into place, it was a definite improvement. I still have those cables, and if I decide to upgrade on my cables, they will have to make as much of a difference as, the Mapleshade cables made against the Radio Shack cables. I hear that the cable manufacturer, called Anti Cables, make very good cables, and start at Radio Shack prices. Good luck, and you don't have to spend an arm and a leg for decent cables. They do make a difference.

These are cool. I like the non box shape but as you say the 4.5”woofer isn’t going to have enough output to satisfy many people. They are smooth sounding. I think they would shine with the bass rolled off by a receiver and sub but I never used them that way. I would say a similar box with a 6.5”woofer would be more practical for most people. Ultimately I gave them away but for a small room could be okay.

Nice review. I bought 530s recently. Initial impression wasn't good at all. They sounded very muddy. But after broken-in, they started to shine. I enjoyed them more and more. Given the current sale price of $240, would you recommend the 530s over the Polk R200s at $750? Or you think the R200 would be worth the higher price?
@AbsoluteFidelity
@AbsoluteFidelity 2 жыл бұрын
I own both and all I can say is the R200 will stomp and trample all over the 530 sonically. If you ask me personally, its worth 3 times the price. Others might disagree but in the world of high fidelity, things can get costly real quick and in that context, its worth 3 times the price.

Hello Tharbamar- Wonderful video. Thank you very much. I have bought a pair of JBL 530 recently and thoroughly enjoying it. I have paired them with Dual Klipsch subs. Question for you: If I buy the JBL 590s, will it add anything more to my experience over the 530s or not? I remember you testing the 590s as well. What would you say, between a paor of JBL 530 with Klipsch subs vs 590 with or without subs - what is your recommendation??

Hi, only benefit of 590 is if you have big enough room for them, in a average room they will not sound their best, also they can take a lot more power, 580 may be more suitable for average room size, I’ve never used sub for my music listening with 590s, thanks

@King G What sounds good to one person sounds just ok to another. I do keep the gills on and because most of the Sound comes out of the wire meshed protected horn it doesn't really effect the sound quality like some speakers. I am still amazed I only paid $1,400 for the 2 590's and 2 subs. Watch new record day regarding positioning these because it matters. I cross them as explained in his video and it really works. But again Price doesn't always mean sound that you like. I have the soundcore Liberty 3 earbuds I bought on sale for $99 and they are fantastic for that little money. Different experience than the jbl's but just as jaw dropping for the money.🤗😉😇 Watch Z reviews if you haven't already regarding this jbl model line as well.😁

I’ve had these for 1 week. The top end is veiled and not bright at all. The Infinity R162’s that I A/B’d against these are better and more open sounding. A noticeable difference when switching. For retail, they are crap. For 250 bucks, they are really good. Just dont expect them to perform like the cream of the crop 500 - 700 bucks speakers like the Diamond 12.2 and R200. This is coming from someone that owns the 530 as surrounds and 590 as mains.

I don’t see the point of calling it crap, it just personal preference, if you don’t like the sound it doesn’t mean they are crappie sounding speakers, this is coming from extensive experience with 100s of speakers up to five figure price range.

@@Tharbamar nothing wrong with calling them crap for the original retail price, especially today. The competition currently in the 500 - 700 dollar category is way above the 530's head but as I said, for 250 it would outperform most, if not all, speakers in that price range.
