Fr also the flip cover, that is actually one of the thing i liked about it. it makes the speaker more cleaner and aux port really is a good pair for my electro drums and electric piano. Plus if i wanted a 0 latency when playing games for example is Call of Duty: Mobile and Genshin Impact you can actually hear everything without delays

The no audio jack is a definitive dealbreaker. I use the extreme 3 as a perfect speaker to take along with my gaming laptop. With a bluetooth connection the audio latency is very noticable. With the 3.5mm audio jack I can just connect a cable and get rid of the latency issue all together.

Don't forget that comparing a used speaker vs a new will always be a big diff. My xtreme 2 sound was way worse after 1 year compared to a new one. A new one was also a lot louder.

Audio jack is a big plus connecting to the TV! I always watch films connecting my TV to my Boombox 3. You get no lag for starters and sounds awesome. Big negative for the Xtreme 4 IMO

im so happy someone sees this to. i think it was an awful move for the X4. i use my aux port all the time, whether im watching movies on the TV, listening to vinyl on my record player, or presenting video projects to my entire classroom through the class projector. your missing out on so much without that port now.

Thanks for the comparison. The extreme 3 maintains the same bass volume between 80% to 100% output so I think a test at 80% would reveal a much greater similarity between the two. The reduced input options on the 4 render it useless for my needs though, (why JBL? why?) the 3 is the way to go for me ;-)

I don't listen to portable speakers for bass output. I prefer a flat EQ curve. Right now, the 3 can be purchased for $230 on Amazon. The 4 is $380. That is a $150 savings. I'm not sure a replaceable battery is much of a selling point. By the time the battery needs replacement, other things will have changed like the version of Bluetooth or addition of WiFi or something new.

I think you are new in Bluetooth speaker era. 1. About bass my partybox 210 surpass each and every power plug speakers in terms of bass 2. I bought it 5 yrs back at the time of launch the major issue now is battery because they are non replaceable. Which make it stuck to power plug all the time 3. About Bluetooth versons mine has 4 generation now 5th is going and I can't find any thing unique in newer versions they are more or less same. 4. About wifi connectivity I owned apple music player too which usese wifi and they are pain in the ass in terms of connectivity.

While I really like the fact that the four has a replaceable battery pack I don't really care for the fact that it does not have a 3.5 mm line level input anymore. And for someone that still uses a Sony Walkman tape deck, this is a real deal breaker. Despite not being able to replace the battery pack I think the three is an overall better value and more cost-effective.

I picked an Xtreme 4 up this weekend and I am so impressed with it. It has way more bass than I was expecting. Depending on the song it can legit sound like it has a little subwoofer inside it. The battery life is also insane. Personally I think the shoulder strap is annoying. Most of the time it sits in my living room and I only plan on taking it out of the house occasionally to go to the beach etc so having a shoulder strap dangling off it and permanently causing a mess on my bench is a no go for me. I removed the strap and tied a piece of rope to it to create a handle (Similar to the handle on the Bose SL Max). I will order some paracord and make a proper handle that looks nice and fits the aesthetic. I don't think I will ever use the shoulder strap.

Yeah, i can hear a difference in clarity for sure, X4 sounds clearer. Didn't even need head phones to pick it up. Bass soundet pretty same but offcource you have more oomph with those biggers elements.

On the jbl xtreme series, jbl did something I didn't like if you ask me! With each new firmware update, the sound quality could change and it didn't always improve, but since people focused a lot on BASS, it was often the ones they got in each update. You never got an equalizer that you could adjust since it then goes beyond the sale of newer xtrem speakers. Extrem 2 and 3 and 4 was ONLY a firmware update! Xtreme 2 could have been as good as 3 and 4 if jbl had updated the firmware and adjusted the eq. correct! The Xtreme 1 does not have as good a tweeter as the 2 and 3 and 4 have.

Thanks for the comparison. I think the Extreme 3 sounds more neutral. Sure, the Extreme 4 has more bass, but everything sounds a bit like it's coming out of a shoebox to me. I think I'll stick with my Extreme 3 as I'm very happy with its sound.

The EXTREME 3 for in-home use, & the 4 for outdoor use. The 4 produces mostly upper bass, which won't tax the battery as much as low, deep bass would. The 4 also puts out 70 watts in battery mode, opposed to the 60 watts that the 3 puts out. The overall sound signature of the 4 is crisper, cleaner, & louder than the 3. This is what you need for outdoor usage. The EXTREME 3 puts out beefy mids & deep bass with clear highs at louder volumes, only when it's plugged in. Setting it near a wall or in the corner of a room will accentuate the bass response.

Ditch the two, and get an Authentics 300. You will not be disappointed. I had both these and my new Authentics blows them up of the park. Yes, with ak battery and as well as a cable. JBL App and controls onboard. Like all speakers, there is a flaw…Not to be taken to the beach or the pool. But was not designed for that reason. It’s all about sound with JBL. You have wifi as well as Bluetooth capabilities. Even Plug in an external source as well.

In what world are you going to be able to connect more than 100 JBL speakers together? Why do you need more?🤣That’s my first thing, second thing is I’m so sick and tired of JBL always denying the fact that you cannot connect older models to newer models as not everyone always has a newer model. It would be lovely if you could connect your jbl extreme 3 with your mates charge 4 and your other mates new extreme 4. It makes no sense to me. It’s a strategy to force jbl lovers to keep on buying the new versions. I used to love JBL and I still do but they really are starting to get ahead of themselves. Especially creating newer models that in all honesty aren’t much of a sound upgrade. I’d appreciate it if they took twice as long to come up with a new gen speaker that is worlds apart from its predecessor. All they did was give the speaker a facelift essentially. JBL you are my favorite speaker brand and I’m a jbl fanatic but I’m starting to lose love due to the lack of audience understanding. You used to really change the game with each generation. Now you just doing it to keep relevant. I am for sure gonna get my hands on the new JBL clip 5 but this speaker is already a let down and predictable outcome of sound. And for anyone questioning my experience with jbl, I have an extreme 3, jbl boombox 3, charge 5 tomorrow land, clip 4, flip 6, and I’ve had flip 1 and boombox 1. My biggest issue is the dual connect on speakers and them not being able to connect to their predecessors. It’s as simple as adding the feature on the jbl app man.

Testing at 100% volume seems a bit unnecessary. These speakers will spend 99% of their life playing music in the 40-75% range and only ever get pumped louder if you are having a drunken party or if you are in a really big space like out on a field where you need the volume to compensate for the open space. Testing at 100% is valuable information but from an audio quality perspective, 60% volume would probably be more useful more of the time.

I use a DAP with a 3.5mm connection for playing music on the go rather than my phone so I guess I'll go for the Xtreme 3 then. I have a question about the EQ for the Xtreme 3 though; Since it's unfortunately tied to an app rather than physical controls on the speaker, is the setting saved in the speaker itself regardless of wether the app is running or not and does it affect the sound coming in through the 3.5mm AUX, or only if the audio is being played via bluetooth from the phone and the app is running?

I like the auracast feature. Probably the only reason I would get it. But we will have to see. I used to have other different types of speakers from different brands, but have either sold or gotten rid of them and now I only have JBL speakers.

As an xtreme 3 owner I see no reason to upgrade, I actually can’t since I use mine as a tv speaker connected via aux. Shame to see the port disappearing on larger speakers when it definitely could have stayed. I guess it’s for people coming from an extreme 1 or 2, though I’ll say wait for a sale as JBL products are good but overpriced.

I watched a comparison video between the EXTREME 4 & Boom2. When considering the price, the Boom 2 is the way to go. As far as the sound goes, the Boom2 actually outperformed the EXTREME 4. It didn’t win by a monumental landslide, but it was louder & sounded just as good, maybe even a little better.

I purchased the xtreme 4, was very happy with the sound until i heard it at around 40-50%. The loudness is very low even lower than the volume of my charge 5 at 50%. Don’t know if thats the case with all the xtreme 4s or just mine is faulty:(

There not great at hight volume 75% hits max vocal and nice bass and plenty Loud at that! To be honest the x4 looks like it's missing something even round the loops for the straps the plastic fabric protection is now gone! I'd stick to the x3 you can't audio test speaker unless have binaural mics

JBL xtreme is not made for the best possible sound! If you want the best possible sound and the flattest frequency, JBL is not for you. JBL 4 have too little sound improvement if you compare with xtreme 3, so there is little point in upgrading if you ask me.

Xtreme4 5 sliders eq and xtreme3 3 sliders eq And you can now change the battery on xtreme 4 without opening it up. 5 sliders EQ. makes xtreme 4 a good choice. JBL scores highly on the fact that it is so portable.
