Hi folks, hope you enjoyed this one. Wanted to add a quick clarification that the potting mix can use any plain compost! I have just found that sylvagrow is my favourite and most reliable peat free product I can buy. Happy growing all!

Hi JB, what a brilliant video! I do grow sweet peppers, not the hot ones, oh I just couldn't cope with the heat 🤣 good tips on when to repot & a guide to what size, too. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

Great video 🙂 Because you’ve used blood fish and bone does that mean you don’t need to weekly feed with seaweed? I’m potting on my peppers this week, and I think your method sounds more suited to my time if that means no weekly feed required :) thank you

the silver grow compost is very pricy when u have to get thought amazon :( but it looks very very good to what i bought before that was all grass cutting and only fit for the garden might get some onions growing now

Yes buying sylvagrow from amazon is absolutely crazy money!! They have an online store checker but I know it can be hard to get hold of.

Hey JB, I really like this series looking forward the them as the season goes. Do you ever top your pepper / chillies plants. I am thinking to do at least half this way this year. Do you have an opinion one way or the other? Take care Cya next time
@JBNat10 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! I don't personally top for the same reason I was saying damaging roots can really set you back. Every bit of pepper growth is precious to us with such a limited window! Topping can help the structure and I'm going to experiment with it a bit thus year
@blumblam481310 ай бұрын
Thanks JB. So helpful. Is there something to be said for using warm water to water them in - try to avoid the shock of being moved? X
@JBNat10 ай бұрын
Yes absolutely! I don't use warm, but always room temperature - and I covered that in a previous guide episode 😊

Great video series thank you. What temp did you set your heated propogator base once you removed the dome cover? Thanks
@JBNat10 ай бұрын
Great question! I cover that in part 2 kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZC4i4GAoqZlmrssi=9ke2vLTiKOhYpaL6 but the quick answer is that you can set it to around 20 if you have a cool room, but if it's a warm cozy room you can switch it off.
@sharonbenson163410 ай бұрын
Thanks, that's great to know 👍. My success rate with propogation is not as good as yours, only 50% of the cells in one tray, so I think it best that I transplant some that have propogated earlier rather than keep them baking at 28degsC.

Only if it's been left around outside for far too long. If it's fresh it should be fine.

Hi JB, my chilli’s have germinated, do I need to keep them on a heat mat still or can they just be under grow lights? The room is fairly warm most of the day and night
@JBNat10 ай бұрын
Have a look at episode 2 for the answer to that question and seedling care tips 😁 the short answer is that heat mat can go off if they're in a warm room, but leave it on if it's cold :)

This might sound a bit thick but if you have been given some pots and there isn’t a stamp on it, how do you know what litreage it is. Some are tall or short, round or square so the diameter isn’t a help. Would I have to measure compost into a ltr jug and fill it up. I might be over thinking this 😂
@JBNat10 ай бұрын
Yeah that's a great question! If it doesn't say it on the bottom the best thing you can do is guess really, or try and get fancy with a volume calculator of some kind. Elixir Gardens pot's have a BRILLIANT conversion chart (not affilliated): elixirgardensupplies.co.uk/product/black-round-plant-pots/ . Getting the tape measure out and comparing with those measurements should give you a good idea. The sizes I talk about only have to be a rough guide. If I say 5 litres then 4-6 litres will be similar!

Once potted on do you still leave them on a heat mat or just the lights
@druidsgardenandkitchen10 ай бұрын
@@daveawebberit depends on the room temperature, I do leave them on heat atm simply because my house is pretty cold, I have a heat mat with a very basic temperature control and put them on the lowest setting. It keeps the soil temperature about 12-15°C which they prefer. They will sulk if you go too cold too quickly. It does mean you have to watch the watering though as the soil dries out quicker.
@JBNat10 ай бұрын
Yep the comment from druids is correct! I cover that exact bit in episode 2 as well 😊

Why did everyone tell me to use 7 gallon (26.5 liter) grow bags? Maybe because I have a very long grow season? I’m putting 1 plant per bag to maximize the space. Of course green onions or some other companion will be in there as well, but you are using such tiny little pots, I don’t get that.
@JBNat10 ай бұрын
Are you in the UK? This guide is very much aimed at UK Beginners. If you're across the pond or really know what you're doing you can get a great plant from those massive containers.
@justplinkin480910 ай бұрын
@@JBNat Yes, I’m in Texas. I have plenty of room outside and will have 50 of these grow bags. I’ve grown chilis for years, just a few at a time in 5 gallon buckets, so this is a big step for me. I consider myself a newbie.
@JBNat10 ай бұрын
Yeah it's a whole other level over there! They will grow readily. A lot of the tips still apply but throw out the pot size rules because they will grow so so much faster where you are! Can go from small to 5 litres to final pot probably.
