One of the most beautiful skyes I've ever seen. I'm trying to paint it, but I'm still not satisfied. Sky and clouds, sunsets and sunrises are some of my favourite subjects to paint and the watercolor tecnique is the most evocative to do this
@JBranchStudio6 жыл бұрын
I think skies are so amazing to paint. They're usually just a few colors, cobalt blue, ultramarine, a purple, red or brown to dull, but then the variation is vast. And that's blue skies, not even sunsets. I could paint nothing but skies in watercolor and never run out of things to paint.

It’s a lot harder to suggest something than to paint everything....gosh you’re so right!! Love your painting. Thanks
@JBranchStudio6 жыл бұрын
It’s funny since details should be more difficult. Photo realism is mostly practicing techniques and tracing. It’s Impressionism that requires knowing just what the minimum you need to put in is. And if you can suggest that in a few stokes, you’re a master!

I’m glad you included my video in your painting party, Barbara! Honestly, any squirrel or sable brush with a very good tip, size 12-14, and large water reservoir will work. I always think it’s a good idea to buy locally so you can try it with clean water. Happy Painting!

I live in Canada and have bought from Jackson's in the UK. If you spend GBP20 on brushes, they ship for free. At least they used to. www.jacksonsart.com/en-ca/brushes

I love your painting and I think I will follow along with you.Tho I am not very good with sketching.Do you ever do watercolor sketching.? No pencil marks. And what color should I use in place of your rust.? Thanks Maddy/Oregon
@JBranchStudio7 жыл бұрын
Oh, good! I'm glad it's inspiring you! I've used watercolor pencils, but I find them a little frustrating because of the low pigment. Plus, I usually like the pencil marks! Quinacridone rust can be substituted by burnt sienna. In fact, it's pretty much my replacement for 90% of my burnt sienna.

Jennifer, did you have water already on the paper before beginning the sky?
@JBranchStudio6 жыл бұрын
Jean, I rarely do wet into wet washes by pre wetting the paper. I go back into a wet on dry wash. This one really needs wet on dry to get the great cloud edges. Happy Painting!

Yes, mostly wet on dry.

It would be most helpful if you mentioned when you went in with a “wet” brush to soften & blur the colours already laid down….this was an exercise in frustration…unfortunately, it appears that there may be steps missing in this quick tutorial…your response would be appreciated….
