You guys are doing a great job on these videos. Keep making them please. I have a 67 Karmann Ghia and plan on buying some parts soon.

Absolutely, I cover installing them in place on our 1967 here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/enOtqYN_Z7B2nNU

Great videos!! I’m only replacing the D-side boot. Do I need to have both sides on jack stands? Or just the side I’m replacing?
@Sam_Mebane2 ай бұрын
To get the boot clear of the frame horns, just the side you're replacing should do.

What's the difference between the standard and deluxe boots?
@Sam_Mebane2 жыл бұрын
The deluxe boots have wider clamps and nylock hardware.

No grease?

No, and the boots are still in place today and not leaking.

Apparently they use transmission fluid. Which explains the puddle under my car.
@Sam_Mebane Жыл бұрын
@@Not-Great-at-Gaming Correct, the flexible boots are in place to prevent the transmission fluid (gear oil) from leaking out. The gear oil sits in the tube as well and runs all the way to the brake backing plate.

Can I put these on my VW axle on my dune buggy?
@Sam_Mebane2 жыл бұрын
If you have a VW swing axle transmission like we have in the video (it only has boots at the transmission, not at the transmission AND the wheel) then yes.

I bought your blue one and it fit great. Thanks

Are these seamed boots just as good as seamless ones?
@JBugsVWParts5 жыл бұрын
The urethane boots offer more flex than seamless boots, and when installed properly work just as well if not better. It really comes down to personal preference and we prefer the urethane split boots.

Seems to be a lot of controversy out on where to position the seam of the boot. I suspect it's a personnel preference as long as you don't point it Straight down.

Yep, talk to 10 different people, you'll probably get 10 different answers!
@brianchisnell15483 жыл бұрын
My '64 VW owners manual clearly states, to install boots with sealant, place the seam horizontal, facing the rear with the screw heads on the bottom for ease of install. There is no bellows in the seam and they will tear if the seam is on top. Stick to the book and you can't go wrong.

@@waldringfieldbaptistchurch ask for RTV at the auto parts store, and they will know what you are looking for… or “valve cover gasket sealer” if they don’t know what RTV is.

I'd rather see it done while the transaxle and engine are in the car with a jack and stands like us home garage vw guys do it
@Sam_Mebane2 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing you didn't watch our video where the transmission was pulled, while the car was jacked up on stands. We didn't use a lift. Either way, on a bench or in the car, the process is still the same.
