To Beenox, thankyou for all your work on the game, it is much appreicated. Whether you're a programmer or menu designer, artist or sound engineer.. I want you to know that I and so many others love Nitro Fueled. I just hope that the major issues can all be patched down the road. Namely bad jump trajectories, invisible walls, and bad wall collisions. Some things like the easy to control momentum coming out of powerslides makes things easier and kills muscle memory, but are by no means a dealbreaker.
Now that I'm done making this I can finally actually play the game with a few days left of free PS+!

*Sewer Speedway shortcut jump physics have now been changed.* This video has many mistakes, READ MORE While you have fire, you now have a much higher larger timing window on the Sewer quarterpipe to get a trick-jump. this was patched in. 1:37 is incorrect. The early jumps do not fail because they make you go into the ground. The reality is that the timing window for the trick-jump is just really small, at the very edge of the ramp. The hoizontal tilting you as you're jumping is (very likely) purely animation. 2:25 I did not mean to imply that the weird edge collisions are random, just that they're bad. 3:24 I incorrectly stated that spamming jump will stop you from losing speed as quickly. This is not the case in Nitro Fueled. 4:12 is incorrect, as jumps can be buffered, it's just the timing window is quite small. 9:06 is correct, but I neglected to mention that it is the reserves system in general that was changed. So the fire changes don't just affect blue fire, but also orange and yellow fire. 10:06 states that powersliding in the tunnel moves the player. This is not true. In both games, powersliding only increases the fire level. If you are already at the max speed of the fire tier (orange, yellow or blue) then it only adds to your reserves. The difference is that the camera no longer has a hard limit at fire tiers, so even at max speed of fire tiers your camera will briefly pull out. *Things I neglected to mention* The directional momentum coming out of powerslides is gone, the game just snaps your direction to exactly where you are driving. Speed dropoff is directly tied to fire in Nitro Fueled, while the original had slow dropoffs Being in the air no longer stops your speed from lowering. Airbraking and down+braking no longer kills reserves. The much taller high jumps also cause crashing into ceilings on certain problem areas that are on many maps. *Final notes* I did not mean to imply that every change was a bad thing. I actually somewhat like braking/u-turns here, and the fire mechanics are a blast. Even the stricter jump buffer timing is a good thing. I was simply going over the differences!

@@matheusgomesdesouza3243 I am loving this game! Sewer Speedway is only one of many maps. Overall the physics are going to throw off muscle memory if you're an old school player, but if you're a new player you'll adjust very quickly. The tracks and characters look fantastic. The racing is a bit harder than Mario Kart but feels more satisfying once you get a feel for the mechanics. Online is a blast. With CNK tracks thrown in as well there's plenty of content. Would recommend!

Man, you should send this to the game developers now that they're still fixing the game. It might be helpful for them... I mean, they might just don't know many of these details or don't know how to address them properly.

Thank you!!! Beating N. Tropy will be awful when short-cuts are broken. I haven't even bothered trying with a couple tracks because the physics are just ever so slightly off throwing off my muscle memory. So glad you made this video!

I wish people in the comments would realize that this video was made to point out things for Beenox to fix so Nitro Fueled can be as good as it can be, not use it as an excuse to bash it. This all can easily be patched. Beenox have put so much love and care into this game and it's still great to play despite the physics not being like the original, but this can all be fixed.

Yeah I mean, I HOPE they do patch it, but the reality is not many game developers actually bother with fixing stuff like this once the game is out unless it's gamebreaking.

@@supersnackbros2423 The thumbnail shows that they killed physics/the Sewer Speedway jump. It is supposed to be an exaggeration, and a joke. I don't see why you'd think the video is just bashing the game. I highlight differences that are worse (ramp jump trajectories, invisible walls, backwards momentum giving reverse controls, etc), the differences that are better (blue fire changes, changes with reversing), and differences that are neutral (braking and u-turn changes).

Same. I was practising in time trial with Tawna on sewer speedway and found the shortcut to be terribly inconsistent despite how much speed I was getting

Blizzard bluff is nowhere near as precise as this imho, it's all about maintaining the sf from before the rolling boulder. Still weird, but this is just completely different from the original speedway

CTR nitro fueled doesnt have the smoothest bumps like in the original CTR. Sometimes you get it, sometimes you dont. Especially the tortoise jump in the Mystery Caves.

I noticed some of these, but it's worse than I expected. I hope they patch the invisible walls and the wall collisions in particular. Losing all speed and reserves from barely scratching the edge of the track is way too punishing.

Glad someone else talked about the random stutter that happens at ramps and jumps. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve missed the shortcut on blizzard buff because I just randomly lost all my speed at the moment I jumped

Sewer Speedway really makes me so sad now. It was legitimately my favorite map in CTR because of the the final full Pipe section and sliding on the walls. Now it's my least favorite map in Nitro Fueled.

Hope the devs see this. These changes are making me not enjoy the game as much. Feels clunky to me. Although, I think the track skip patches and continuous blue fire is a good change.

I agree that the skips patching is for the best (it actually needs some fixes since there is new skips). The blue fire is definitely much more intuitive, and very fun to master.

@@DatBoi-mo9vc To beat N Tropy you don't need to take the shortcut at all, just mantain SF throughout the race and you'll beat him, now Oxide is the real problem, you MUST take that broken inconsistent shortcut on all 3 laps otherwise you're screwed.

I just got the platinum relic for it today with Tawna. I had plenty of speed and wasn't making it so I focused on timing but then that didn't seem to matter either so it was inconsistent af

I sat down with my Father to play the remake, just like I did 20 years ago and when it came to my fav level sewer speedway. I was super excited.... It was the most depressing experience I had playing the remake. Failing to do the race due to my muscle memory not matching and having race with barely any slide boosts. This needs to be fixed

Very informative. The driving physics in _Nitro Fueled_ threw me off since I'm very used to _CTR_ 's style, and something felt off while I first played the game.

You shouldn't have expected Nitro Fueled to be like the original CTR because Beenox built the game from scratch and didn't have the original files It's not far off from the original CTR but they need to fix some details

@@numberjuaanctr420 if by "pretty bad" you mean the game itself then you are being a bit too negative. Game is awesome even with its minor issues, like for me its the bump physics. Sometimes it kills ALL of your momentum and stops the kart completely and other you stop for a sec then continue on at full speed. But these things can be midigated with some good maneuvering and NOT turbo sliding ALL OVER THE PLACE lol. it's always funny seeing players online crash into walls and sliding off edges for tryna slide everywhere.

Tiger Temple's shortcut is in general less polished. It's so silly that you can get stuck in the door if it closes on you.

Also for the shortcut for the Blizzard Bluff track, in Nitro Fueled, there are invisible walls if you go to the right of the shortcut, you’ll lose the boost because there’s an invisible wall, and can’t use the shortcut without practice. I say all of this because for me, N. Tropy was so hard to defeat on that track. But I finally made it. They should fix that as well.

I tried to jump on sewer speedway shortcut with very low speed, I started from half of the pipe to the ramp, and I still got it. so it really doesn't matter how fast your speed are, if you can't jump on the softspot you'll break into a wall...

This is correct. Having a high speed makes the shortcut easier in CTR but harder in Nitro Fueled.

And if you re to fast even hitting the sweet spot will bump you to the wall since you re too fast before you re to high to makenthe shortcut

I love the core gameplay of Nitro Fuelled, but there's so much that needs fixing. The biggest issues for me are the random invisible walls when going off a ramp and the way that the wall geometry doesn't line up with the hitboxes. The number of times I've clipped invisible walls and lost blue fire because of it is upsetting. If the original CTR had a significant online component, I'd be playing that instead.

@@tomcrawley3343 In terms of hitbox there were some fixes, mainly for the new tracks, and the game is slighty more lenient for losing reserves when you hit a wall. But other than that, still the same.

So in some ways nitro fueled is harder than the original. With these dodgy collisions. The nerfed handbrake turn that now needs u turning tech to pull off and the loss of all momentum on any collisions. Although the buff to usf does offset the difficulty a bit but at the same time is sort of kept in check by the loss of momentum on collisions. So it's kind of just as hard to master or increases the skill ceiling even further by allowing the top players to boost indefinitely.

im glad im not the only one who experienced all of these issues with the new game. It was very frustrating having to relearn how to do the sewer speedway shortcut and that there are areas in maps that can really slow you down.

Something I encounter on occasion is if you come too close to a wall you are mostly parallel to while going fast, sometimes you will go into this sort of weird physics for a moment where it's almost like the game doesn't know what to do. You are allowed to keep racing as normal after that, it doesn't cause your kart to crash or anything, but you do lose a fair bit of speed which can be annoying. Also Oxide Station is horrid in online races because if someone leaves an item on the indoor boost jump or you get hit by an item from behind, you won't be able to make the jump and will fall to a much earlier point in the track, dooming you to 8th place. It can be very difficult to score a better position after this, especially if it happens on the final lap. This could easily be fixed by placing a trigger to reset you to before the jump above the earlier point of the track below high enough that nobody would be able to jump up to it early.

oooommmmggg yes okay you put all of my issues into words. years and years of OG ctr are burned into my mind, and as ive been playing the remake, i couldnt figure out why i fucked up so much on random little things (such as walls holding you back or slapping you).

Nice comparison. This shows how perfect CTR was (and is). It seems like invisible walls and infinite blue fire is gonna be a problem. Something that I noticed and Didn't like it is the shorcut in the sewers, now it's too easy.

I miss the wall sliding from the original ;-; I've also noticed the little jumps you can do on Oxide Station, at the area where you jump through space, I used to be able to get extra jump boosts between the boost ramps.

Hate this, stupid collision on regular jumps. I was doing the hot air speedway grand prix challenger where u have to win 2 games without falling off the side. Did first race find then got to 3/3 lap in 2nd race and got to the turbo boost part where u jump over onto either of the 2 roads, and it randomly just decided to stop me at the top of it and drop me down to death ruining the quest. Was so annoyed

Out of Time wasn’t in the original CTR but there is a HUGE invisible wall on the right hand side of the jumpable fence near the beginning of the track. Also the random barriers at the top of jumps means racing Oxide on Tiny Temple is a matter of luck, although you can reduce the odds of it occurring by jumping onto the ramp’s turbo pad rather than off of it. ALSO the Oxide ghost on Sewer Speedway passes right through a rolling barrel. Weird. Did they record the time trials before adding the hazards to the tracks?

This kind of explain a lot of things why I was struggling to play NF after CTR a while back. None of my jumps and coordination were working so I assumed or guessed I forgotten everything CTR even though I mastered the game well on beginner mode and played casually. Still trying to figure out, whether a technique I figured out, which also known long before within the community, was I always using airbrake or u-turn and why I cant use either effectively or fast enough (I would jump then briefly brake mid-air for high-speed mid-air tight-jumps.).

Half-pipes are so annoying in Nitro Fueled, especially on Deep Sea Driving. With zero-gravity removed and replaced with a half-pipe, the drive-able area is considerably reduced, yet they kept the blades the same width. That last set of blades after a blind corner are probably the single most difficult obstacle in the entire game, and the awkwardness of driving in a half-pipe makes it harder yet.

The same did actually happen with the N Sane Trilogy for some reason... I honestly think CTR is the HL2 of 1999 in terms of physics, they were revolutionary for its time, and the entire game wouldnt be possible without them. ND even with the few resources they had back in the day, they knew how to use it to its fullest.

The thing with the popes happens with Deep Sea Driving. Get stuck so many times trying to turn the right way. The quick hop thing I used to do on the original around Papu’s Pyramid to turn quickly is my drift would not do it. Mostly for the boost pad after the ninety degree turns

The points at 1:30 and 3:29 are both related to the kart being parallel to the ground whilst airborne and the collisions on the ramps may be due to the angle of the track model the kart is in contact with, they both look like raycasting issues.

Most of the ramp crashes happen on ramps at a high speed on the frame you try to jump. When you jump on a ramp the kart tends to dip down a bit, which typically is used as visual that doesn't effect jumps because you're already airborn. But if you are at a high speed and the intended next position of the kart is with its nose dipped inside the ground because you are going so fast, it can crash. If this theory is correct, having the kart dip forward only after the kart is detected to be airborn would solve most crashes. Some crashes, like the bad collisions on the top of the Sewer quarterpipe you can crash into, don't happen while jumping. Instead seemingly because it is such a steep wall. Thus, some generally improved crash detection would help mitigate both of these issues.

@@jc66266 I would assume the kart dip is purely aesthetic but the player intersecting the ground is plausible and I thought this too until I saw electron avenue's footage, the crash happened as the player entered the boost pad which made think it's down to raycasting. My only guess is when the raycast returns a target rotation from the model or 'vertices normal', it's returning a rotation over 90 degrees causing the player to face into the ground for a single physics frame (separate from the framerate) causing the crash to happen and I can't think of any other way it could happen.

@@myavatargotsnowedon9156 It tends to happen so frequently with jumping though, and much less from just driving. It's possible that the jump dip causes it in most cases, but in other cases it is a result of other issues. For the Electron Avenue collision where you go from the long blue pad to the thin edge pad, the ramps have different angles (iirc). Maybe your kart doesn't adjust its angle properly to stay ontop of the ramp when it transitions and instead continues at its current angle, so its next intended position is directly inside the boost pad ramp. This could cause a crash theoretically. I haven't seen any excessive rotation while looking at frame-by-frames, though that doesn't disprove it. I highly doubt the jump dipping is purely visual, but I should look at some more frames and see if I can support my theory.

@@jc66266 The dipping appears to be during some of the longer/steeper jumps. The player along with the camera noticeably rotate downwards in mid air, it looks like it's refraining from going too high. Also if you haven't seen any excessive rotation frame-by-frame, physics framerates are typically faster than the main framerate and if it uses slerp interpolation it would be almost unnoticeable under the animations.
