From Sunrise Highway, take exit 58 north. As you enter William Floyd Parkway, prepare to turn west onto Victory Avenue. Follow signs to main entrance to park.
The Carmans River flows through this scenic, pine-oak forested park. Southaven is a popular picnicking site, containing group areas capable of accommodating up to 1,000 people. Southaven's 1,356 acres also offer a bicycle hostel. Boating and freshwater fishing are permitted. Camping is also available, with sites for tents and trailers.
Amenities
1. Reservations
Green Key holders can make reservations through the Parks Online Reservation System.
Walk-up campers may reserve site(s) on same day, availability of a site is not guaranteed and is first come first served
Resident and Non-Resident VIP Green Key cardholders may make reservations from 1 to 180 days in advance.
Non-Green Key holders can make reservations from 1 to 180 days in advance, but only 45 days in advance for holiday weeks (Holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day).
What do I need to make a reservation?
You will need either a Suffolk County Parks Green Key card (residents only) or a Suffolk County Parks Non-Resident Key card in order to make a reservation. The Non-Resident Key card can be purchased online with an active online account.
Online Reservations become available at 7:00 pm for the new day.

2. Camping Season
In-season camping is between April 1st-Veterans Day unless otherwise posted. (Season is weather dependent.
3. Check- In
Check-in time for campers with reservations is 4:00 pm on the first day of reservation.
Campers may contact the park directly to see if early check-in is available.
Campers must check in by 9:00 pm on the date your reservation starts or contact the park with anticipated arrival date, otherwise camper will be considered a No-Show
8. Pets
It is the pet owner’s responsibility to ensure all pets staying/visiting the campground are inoculated per local and state regulations.
Proof of inoculations for any pets that will be staying on site may be requested at any time.
Proof includes Rabies Certificate or tag dated for current year
Only domesticated animals are permitted in Suffolk County Parks.
Pets are not permitted in bathrooms, picnic areas or areas where food is served to the public.
Pets must be on no more than a 6’ leash and under owners control at all times.
Pets are never to be left unattended on county property.
Two (2) pets per campsite permitted.
Owners are responsible for the proper disposal of pet waste.
9. Generators
Generators are only permitted to operate between 9am-1pm and 5pm-9pm.
Generator placement should be in a location that does not interfere with other campers.
Generators creating excessive noise may be requested to be shut off.
Generators shall not be left unattended
16. All camp fires must in approved fire rings/containers with solid bottom only. Fire must be completely extinguished with water before leaving.

I go over that crossing walking over the dam in the northern direction you were pointing which is a very narrow part of the Carmens river. It is also an area for fly fishing.

They do have nice wooded sites too- you cracked me up when you said about the firing range noise- not a bad place for the hard of hearing😂Good thing you pointed about about the y adapter that is unusual

It's not a bad spot to camp, it is a suburban area and there's lots to see and do. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. We will be camping this May out in Suffolk county and later in the summer will be down in Lido Beach at the other Nassau County campground. I only have one long drive plan this summer, we're going to spend two weeks at Lake George up in the Adirondacks we haven't been up there since the kids were babies. I did see quite a few good spots to hang a hammock but I think it might be a bit too noisy, I don't like tent camping around RVs all the machinery makes so much noise. All the Suffolk county campgrounds have the blessing box it is a nice idea people are hurting these days and it's nice that they can seek help privately, without having to be embarrassed. It's not necessarily their fault, that they are having rough times. Thank you so much for stopping by I appreciate your comment.👍

I hear ya about the gas prices, but we are heading to PA and NY to our seasonal spot so we are just going to suck it up. 😂. We’ve noticed a lot of campgrounds have the no drinking signs. They are only enforced if people become offensive and breaking rules due to intoxication so they can ask them to leave. Nice campground and 100 sites is always good.

You're right about that it's been way too long since I've been out in the woods, this is the slow time of year for camping. It's either too cold or too wet or to buggy. We're picking up the trailer from the dealer this weekend all of our warranteed repairs were made, I'm sure that will keep me busy. The blessing box is a neat idea. I haven't seen one of those. Love scouting out campgrounds. We do this from time to time. We like to see what sites we like the best and try to get those when reserving. And for the free spots we go to, we like to see if they're suitable for camping. Sometimes they aren't. The boat rental thing is neat, but I'd prefer to take my kayaks :)

How are we going to handle the high gas cost. We reduced the major trips down to 3 and will be staying longer on those trips. Looking at a total of 3000 miles or 300 gallons of gas. It's crazy to spend $100+ on fuel for just a few days of camping. We are lucky where we live in Ohio. We have 2 state parks about 40 minutes away and 3 more about an hour away. Can't wait till camping season to begin. Getting ready to take trailer in to have bearing greased and we are ready to go.
