Thank you! This behind the scenes footage is wonderful! I was lucky enough to see this Live in Melbourne, Australia

Judas’s death is so sad now that i actually saw it. Like, the sunset/rise and everything... it pulls on my heart strings

It literally took my breath away the first time I saw it, I couldn't breathe and there may have been ugly sobbing.

There are two stories for Judas. One is that he hanged himself, one is that he was inspecting the plot of land he'd bought with the 30 shekels, and fell onto sharp rocks, which cut him, and his guts spilled out.

As amazing as this performance is here is my 'what if' question: What if the two male lead actors Tim Minchin and Ben Forster did a performance where they reversed their roles? That is, Minchin plays JC and Forster plays Judas.

Tony Finoro Tim would have stolen the show whatever.

@@torideffee3192 I agree. Tim definitely has the talent for it.

@@torideffee3192 Tim and Ben are both very talented and work very well together especially in their given roles.

I am a huge fan of Tim's but I honestly think that lightening would possibly hit the stage. /s Seriously, it could be interesting, I do believe Tim could kill it.

Would loved to have seen this, but the Ted Neely / Carl Anderson film and theatre performances were such a profoundly powerful experience for me (mum and dad took me to cinema at 3 yrs old in 1973) it will always be the version against which all others are judged. Plus I think the original album had a great funk / rock vibe which really helped to develop the underlying tension and passion. This is the way it should be played IMO. In short, if you are going to produce "your new vision" of JCSS, it better be REALLY, really good. Otherwise, you are essentially disrespecting what time has proven to be a very inspiring, moving and important masterpiece.

I mean, it was the composer's "new vision" so I guess he gets to do what he wants with it, and it's kind of weird to say that the composer is "disrespecting" his own work. Especially as the composer himself thought the movie was a "vulgar travesty" in his words. So YMMV but just sometimes, the newer version is better (and I say that as someone who was born in the 70s and grew up on musical theatre).

I listened to the original cast record hundreds of times as a kid. But there’s a 2005 remaster of the 1996 revival cast that has a fuller, funkier orchestration that I think is even better than the original.

Tim 'Autotune' Minchin was the absolute worst Judas I've ever seen in 40 years of watching this show.....to think he took up a place that might have gone to an unknown but talented performer, and changed their life and career.......such a pity.
@FirstnameLastname-vf9rp3 жыл бұрын
I personally think he did an amazing job. His acting and singing was on point and it’s unfortunate that they made the decision to auto tune him when he didn’t need it. (Also he said he wasn’t happy about the auto tuning)
@SeasonsChange143 жыл бұрын
What did you dislike about his performance? I thought he was brilliant and gave a nuanced performance as Judas. He did not want auto tune and was quite unhappy when it was used.

Is this Twitter? All the worst takes in the history of existence belong there, leave KZbin alone, seriously, Minchin nailed it, he's not the best singer among all the Judases (he still can sing quite well, obviously) but the emotional interpretation was superb.
