Here are some of my thoughts as I watched Protestia's recent interview with its founder JD Hall. JD Hall had a moral failing last year and disqualified himself for ministry. Now's he's speaking out about his experiences.

I get it, sort of, mostly. But he admits he cut everyone off, then is shocked when they didn't respond? Sadly there ARE consequences, and relationship consequences are always among the first. I don't think this was a 'weakness' showing. This was SIN - he abused and threatened his FAMILY, and embezzled money. That is beyond WEAKNESS. (In my opinion) The sneakiness is concerning considering he was in leadership. I believe that is where the friendships 'went'. And yes, it is heartbreaking nonetheless. But these men are literally COMMANDED to hold themselves to an extraordinarily high standard, and hold their homes to a high standard. He didn't.

Hey Dean . Just answer the question of why the elders at his old church said Hall’s wife should divorce him was because of spousal abuse, and child abused , that she personally told them. A few local media outlets and one more national Christian outlet reported on it as well , Also there is the issue of embezzlement of what his old church said is that he embezzled approximately 10,000 dollars from congregation funds. There is more to his story on his arrest he was also accused of having concealed weapon , and bags of unidentified pills, a prescription bottle filled with an unknown liquid substance, Why his friend aren’t flocking back may also have to do with his local publication of false news stories which brings in question most of anything he has written. Now from the prospective of a recovered alcoholic and drug user . I think he has to come completely come clean and not offer his story but ask for forgiveness. His obligation is to make amends. I know it sounds harsh but it’s the best way in my opinion. Good video Dean

Apparently I had never seen him sober on video before because I cannot overemphasize how differently he presents. His countenance is radically different. I hope he and his family continue to recover.

According to public records and police reports, Hall committed severe life-threatening DV against his wife in front of their children. Now, there's varying degrees of marriage permanence doctrines out there, but even the most strict ones will advise separating from someone who tries to unalive their spouse in front of the kids. I say good for the church in Montana for at least trying to watch out for the safety of those kids. I hope Hall stays clean and doesn't relapse into that behavior again. But if he does, God forbid, their hands are clean because they did seek to protect the family from DV.

@@illlegalradioJD is a liar. I know the people involved here. The chief of police calls JD a "Piece of ___" and one former elder calls him a "Son of Satan". He's way worse than what is known.

To be fair, Protestia did release the full interview without the music. Enough people, myself included, objected to the music.

does sound like he’s pointing fingers at bad guys rather than focusing on himself; IMO he needs therapy. Anyone so given to extremism probably has mental health issues. He should not have a Christian platform.

@DeanLentini Deeply appreciate you saying that people shouldn't be too hasty to judge Hall's church for suggesting divorce to his wife. Where rubber meets the road, things can be more nuanced and complex. Someone I know well (Jason, a devout believer) recommended that his sister-in-law (brother's wife) divorce his own brother. Brother was a spiraling alcoholic and emotional abuser although the couple are also professing/active christians. Needless to say, Jason's bro HATED him for siding with the SIL. A few months after divorce proceedings were initiated, reality started dawning on the brother. He started taking corrective action - action that he had refused for over a decade. Long story short, the divorce was halted just the day before going before a judge. The couple is reconciling. And, as I hear Jason tell it, he is happy for his brother and SIL. The guy is convinced that, if not for divorce proceedings, there would have been no remedy to the situation. So, yeah.

It’s a pretty interesting choice to buy into JD’s post-addiction spin interview claims of abandonment without any access to information from the other side. Kudos to you though for calling out JD for blaming his local church.

Yes. I listen to all of those guys. I was really disappointed when the three ministers made the video after this story broke, and they were so dismissive of JD. It kinda made me sick to my stomach. Has to be said though, that we are only hearing JD’s side and the guy is a very gifted communicator. Let’s not forget, the way he assaulted his wife… he strangled her in front of the kids. Men who put their hands on a woman’s throat are statistically multiple times more likely to unalive their mates. The church was trying to protect her life.

Last time I checked JD Hall was very disrespectful to Dr. James White and Rosaria Champagne Butterfield before his addiction was public, his Discernment Ministry went too far sometimes. I hope he grows in santification and calms down and gives more Grace to others just like what he wants for himself. I appreciate your different take on JD Hall which is why I'm subscribed to you.

I agree with your take on this. I heard the interview and I wondered why he didn’t address the accusations against him like attempting to strangle a family member and taking church money. I thought they left something out about the divorce thing. It may be that he is not being entirely truthful or if he still has to go to court for these things his lawyer may have told him not to talk about it. However he said he wasn’t coming back to the ministry. I have a feeling he will eventually try to come back. I might be wrong. I think he should never return to ministry.

Ya we should definitly help a bro when hes down... everyone also should be accountable... probably many people are hiding that they are disqualified. People that are very nice can still be false teachers tough.. here in Philippines false teacjers are very nice people.. Always helping and supporting but still reprobates.

Do you think some of it was because of the fact that he wasn't honest and blamed it on a vitamin D deficiency at first? But I agree that they shouldn't have abandoned a friend in distress like that.

I don’t know 🤷🏼‍♀️ he seems kinda like he’s gone from one kind of judgy person to another. Maybe after time passes, he might realize he would have also been like the Levite who wouldn’t touch the wounded person on the road with a 10 foot pole bc that would make him “unclean by association”.

I have to say I've experienced the exact same thing as JD...so repusled by a huge chunk of the reformed camp. It was charismatics that have showed me the most love. Even though I share the most theologically in common with the reformed. Kinda reminds me of a certain parable...

Great video. I’m glad to see God remove JD from ministry as he was one of the most toxic and dishonest “discernment” people out there. Based on his consistent behavior, I have no reason to believe he is being truthful in the interview, appears to me to be a pity party by a narcissist.

He'd be better off shutting his mouth and walking the walk. Sometimes you will walk alone and grow up and learn some life lessons. You don't treat your family like this and threaten them, sober up & immediately get the respect of those around you. Get off the pity pot and walk the walk. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart at this time.

Although I’m not a fanboy of Phil and Justin, we also don’t have the full story on that. I have good friends who never text me back. I have communicated with Justin Peters a couple times on email back in the day. Sometimes he responds. Sometimes he doesn’t. Just like we don’t have the full story with the church in Montana, we don’t have it with these guys. Just sayin. And I think two things can be true with Beth Moore. She may be a genuine Christian and also not qualified to teach. The SBC put Beth on a rockstar platform because that’s what you do in mainstream evangelicalism. Sell books and conference tickets. She got sucked up by the evangelical industrial complex and that leaves a mark (I’ve not closely followed her deconstruction). Her act of grace to JD is encouraging. We don’t have the full story on any of these people. All we can do is respond to public teachings and practices while extending grace to the ones we publicly disagree with. One more thing is that as a former charismatic, I understand the need for public response to the most popular movement within Christianity. “Going after the charismatics” is not exactly fair, because the hope is helping current charismatics and ex-charismatics to untangle the wreckage this movement leaves behind. I underwent severe spiritual abuse in this movement and I’ve interacted with countless individuals who have had their lives devastated by the movement. Critiquing the teachings of Bill Johnson may not be high on your list because you are an ex-fundamentalist, but you understand the importance of critiquing Doug Wilson. I support you on that. Remember us ex-charismatics who have loved ones still in the movement and understand we feel the same way about the hyper charismatic movement as you do about Moscow. I feel the same about Moscow. Just saying there’s more people out here publicly responding to the hyper charismatics than just those you’d view as fundie. Our concerns and work in that area are not cold hearted. God bless you Dean!

I love Montana. It's like a slice of the south (except for Bozeman) up in the mountains. You can get sweet tea and grits at the Hilton in Billings, and if that ain't Southern, I don't know what is. But with that comes the ugly side of Southern culture and it sounds like JD and his family got hit with it. Did he deserve it? I dunno. But counseling someone to seek divorce over seeking God's will is not a good thing, but there are things we don't know. But it just sounds more like Tuscaloosa, Monroe or Vicksburg than Montana.
