When the country is this gorked up after 4 years of mismanagement, it's fairly easy to craft solid policy that would swing the pendulum back in the right direction. Find the worst thing currently being done and undo it. Alternately, find something Trump already fixed and do more of it. Nothing Harris says will fix anything, not even in theory and giving her the benefit of the doubt that she's serious. Everything she plans to do will only cause more damage. Old guy here. Vance nailed it. Energy costs drive this country. Simple as that.
@protorhinocerator142
@protorhinocerator142 20 күн бұрын
They taught me this back in 8th grade. All of our productivity is divided by the cost of energy to make it happen. If energy costs are high, you're dividing by a very large number, reducing the nation's production. Make energy costs low and productivity increases across the board. Make energy costs low, and the price of everything (besides energy) drops overnight. There's your "price gouging". It costs money to ship tomatoes to the grocery store. Diesel fuel is expensive. Drop the price and tomatoes are cheaper. All this without causing deflation. It's simply a better price. No downside. I'll go further. I believe it's evil to tax energy, housing, clothing, or food. These are all things everyone needs, and high prices affect poor people the most. Where is all their fake concern for the poor when it comes to taxes? "Tax cuts for the rich" for these items won't affect rich people that much, but they will affect poor people immensely. 2023 numbers for a typical gallon of fuel (gasoline/diesel) Taxes 14/15 Distro/Marketing 11/19 Refining 25/20 Crude oil 50/47 That means if you're paying $3.00 for a gallon of gas, 42 cents of that is taxes. This is the government increasing the cost of energy, to reduce the nation's productivity. If I'm a billionaire I don't care how much gas costs for my Ferrari. But if I'm poor living paycheck to paycheck, I feel it. That can be about 7 bucks every time I fill up. Like I said, this is evil. Eliminate all taxes on energy. It's evil because it hurts the poor the most, and it's bad for the economy. Now there are fewer jobs and the poor are screwed yet again. In 8th grade I understood this.
@johnshaw6702
@johnshaw6702 19 күн бұрын
@@protorhinocerator142Last time I checked the government makes more money off of gas than the companies that create it. Back when Arnold was governor of California, driving a hummer, they past a bill for more efficient engines, which I personally approve of. But because people were using less gas, the government was losing revenue, so they raised the tax on gas. Essentially, they were using less gas, but were paying more per gallon than they did before. Today, California still has the highest gas prices and gas tax in the nation.

The team of people Trump has surrounded himself with is stellar and will carry on the America First movement (Freedom First for us non-Americans) for years to come.

@@chefstirston if it goes that way, we'll all be screaming. Here's why: if Harris pumps money into the economy as she is promising, that creates inflation. More money = more demand More demand than supply = price goes up. That's economic law. She's promising to make inflation worse and people poorer. Another reason why: foreign policy disaster. Our adversaries are motivated by the disastrous way Harris handles things like Afghanistan and our southern border. It's weak, and weakness invites aggression. Don't make Americans scream. Actually, he should wait out a term. VP's who run for President immediately following their term do not get elected to the Presidency. If he waits out 2028, in 2032 he could get a clean run to the White House. VP's just don't do well right after their term. Biden was the same, he had to wait a term out before being elected to WH.

Tariffs don't simply make foreign goods more expensive - they also make American goods more expensive, because American producers have no incentive to keep their prices much lower than what the tariffs force on foreign goods. Remember: The Great Depression was ushered in by Hoover imposing the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act on foreign goods, which triggered tariffs on American goods sold to foreigners. This drove production into the ground.

Being a truck driver, I wonder how many people know how much money goes into fueling a truck per day. They probably freak out if they knew lol
@kalevipoeg6916
@kalevipoeg6916 20 күн бұрын
Well, average big truck holds 120 to 150 gallons. Average fuel economy 6.5 to 7.5 miles per gallon. Average gallon price, diesel, $3.11. Assuming a 600 mile range per working day, that's 80 to 92.3 gallons at $3.11 per gallon, or $249 to $287 per 600 mile stretch with one stop at the end to refuel. Compare this with my Ford Focus, 33 MPG, which would cost about $65 for the same trip depending on fuel type selected, or over 4x lower for the same distance in cost. I've never driven a truck bigger than a U-Haul but I'd hazard to guess somewhere in that range ;) MORE IMPORTANTLY than the EXACT actual cost, let's show people what happens when the company must reimburse fuel (i assume that's how it works - you get a fuel card or reimbursed) that costs 50% more. New cost: $4.67 per gallon. Same distance, same fuel economy (by the way, ironically this makes a good argument for electric trucks if they can be recharged within the time you rest - the cost would be a lot lower per mile) $374 to $431 per 600 mile stretch per day. Assuming that truck is on the road 7 days a week 365 days a year (just for the sake of argument), that is $156,899 in JUST fuel costs per year with a 50% increase, or on the higher end $104,468 per year WITHOUT the 50% price increase. This means over $52,000 per year MORE in cost for just ONE truck on the road that the company must pay. How many trucks is a big transport company fielding at any one time? Hundreds? Thousands? A lot, I bet. So that could balloon into MILLIONS of dollars more the company must pay if the fuel goes up by 50%, per year. And for every dollar the company's transportation fees increase, grocery stores must pay that much more and then some to obtain the stock they sell. THEY must in turn then raise their prices to offset their extra costs. Regardless of exacts, Kamala Harris' price freezing plan for this reason alone would drive many stores out of business - which would impact the entire chain from source to store, including many jobs. At the same time I think it IS worth slowly transitioning to electric or other fuel sources which are going to be more sustainable long term than petroleum, of which we DO have finite supply on earth. It also does have an environmental impact - Trump is wrong on that - but you also need the INFRASTRUCTURE in place, which takes some time. I hope Trump - if he wins - is wise enough to work with Musk to streamline the transition - gradually - from gas to electric. One difficulty of course is that many of these companies are not going to want to just stop using the trucks they HAVE already and pay for a brand new Tesla truck, so maybe Trump and Musk can work out an exchange program with trucking companies - turn it in for credit toward a new Tesla truck that would cost a lot less per mile in the long run than fossil fuels, which WILL eventually run out here and there, resulting in higher prices at the pump.
@Mynameisfunny12
@Mynameisfunny12 14 күн бұрын
@@kalevipoeg6916while it is true that gas is expensive, electrical is just as expensive and can also put heavy strain on power grids. Semi’s and large trucks will actually save the MOST money on fuel by going a hybrid(electric and gas), or doing some sort of biofuel/electric hybrid. I don’t have the full data on me atm, but the best example of the cost would to look into EV batteries for all-electric cars like Tesla. Those things do not come cheap in any capacity. This is a good debate though, and I’d be willing to hear more about it.
