Back in the early days there was rooster fight competition, so they sent the the roosters into a fighting pit. Thus a “cockpit”. I spent 45 years as a professional pilot, this is a load of crap. I have since retired. They watered down the actual learning how to fly that you have a bunch of pilots that as long as nothing goes wrong they are fine, but as soon as it does and you have to hand fly the airplane things go south. You tell me how two qualified pilots allowed a computer problem to fly themselves right into the south Atlantic? Nolen sure as hell didn't have any touch-feely crap to deal with, my guess is he had to work his ass off just to get thru flight school and whatever came after for him, I don't think the term airman was even an issue for him them if it was he would have fluked out. Why do think they automated flying so much, it's got nothing to do with workload and everything to do with how pilots have been being trained over the last 30 years.

Nah as an Engineer, the real reason is cus most planes can be automated to a very reliable degree. Its a super simple problem to solve relative to self driving cars. But everything on a plane is designed to be redundant, so along with an electronic flight controller, you also got a biological flight controller. It was an obvious thing they wouldv had to add anyways.
