A few fun facts: 1) Eren didn't open his eyes during rumbling, he opened his eyes in his last breath just to see Mikasa 2) Mikasa wrote “Here forever rest peacefully, my most beloved, my dear. 854” on Eren’s grave. The first two times Mikasa visits Eren’s grave she put four roses which means nothing will come between two people who love each other but cannot be together / tragic love. The last time she put one rose which means “you are still THE one". 3)A white flower was placed during her death, which symbolizes purity and virginity. So, taken together, Mikasa's flowers send the message that she won't forget Eren, she still loves him (but believes he can no longer love her back), she will remain devoted to him, and she is waiting. 4)They spent 4 years living together in Paths (ch. 138) And only when he “passed away” there, was she able to kill him in the real world. (it was a gift to them from Ymir) 5)In the ending credits where Eren and Mikasa were buried, an old man Armin still visiting their graves. He was the last to die from the trio, just like when they were kids running to the tree, he was the last one who reaches the tree. I just copy paste from @2DTL

From her demeanor, I felt that the ending was not what she expected and that she was not really satisfied (rightfully). It is quite obvious looking at her reaction and her final opinion. If you notice the logical issues with the ending, that is enough for you to be confused instead of getting emotional.

ymir most likely thought that the love she had for the king (stockholm syndrome) was real and she wanted someone to show her that is not the case and there are other forms of love as shown by mikasa n eren. eren asked mikasa to be free n move on unlike the King who kept using Ymir Mikasa killed eren eventho she loves him unlike Ymir who thought that by “loving” someone, u must follow them regardless. Not really good in expressing myself in English but u get the point 😅

Isayama is answering in an interview with The New York Times. 「I considered a happy ending where the war ends and everything turns out well. However, overlaying that with the current reality makes it banal and lacking in credibility. It's sad, but I had no choice but to give up on the happy ending.」 I like this final episode. It's inevitable for any popular series to have mixed opinions about the ending. I want to thank all the staff for their hard work.
@raltor20 Жыл бұрын
But it does have a happy ending? - Genocidal, psychopathic maniac Eren dies. His friends still love him. - No members of the alliance die. - Everyone is un-titanised. - The Eldians are not immediately executed by firing squad when they reveal they have no Titan powers. - The Alliance all get to live long and happy lives. - Paradis makes it at least several centuries, perhaps even 1000 years, before being bombed. The ending shows that people are still living on the island after it is bombed. - The mass casualties consist of an 80% of the world that the audience has no attachment to.

Idk if its just the editing, but if you skipped the credits, I recommend going back to watch the time lapse that plays on the side during the credits. It gives some additional context of the "cycle of conflict" that happens in Paradis over the years. That happens in the background, but in the foreground we see the tree grow over the years as people come to visit the grave. Hard to say, but it looks like Mikasa and her future family show up. It starts with her, a man, and a child; then seemingly her as an old lady with her extended family. Really beautiful detail

the problem with concept of determinisim, (predetermination) is that it removes the accountability of sum1's choice simply bcoz the future is already decided. However the story, for me, shows that there was no predeterminism at all. That everything happened in the future is still the consequences of Eren's choices. Eren experienced time differently when he baceme the founding. Time became a material reality that he could go at the same time removing all linear feautures events. When you'll rewatch episode 1 the next time, you will think that Eren was ther exaclty the moment, his mom was eaten. Did he go back in time? No. It happened exactly there. The question we will always ask is why. Like why he has to do that. He could have directed it to anyone else. He could have not let Hannes died or his friends died if he is capable of changing anything. That's when we realize that he only influenced the events that which exactly would result to wiping out almost of humanity. Thats the freedom he wants. That's the view he ever wanted to see. Bcoz when he learned about the outside world. He was disappointed. Isayama beautifully explained Eren's motivation in his intereview Still the consequences of these choices are the eradication of titan powers having his friends live a long life and the rest of humanity come to a compromise at least for a century. The rumbling is the only path that he has seen to achieve on the best possible outcome that he thinks at the expense of his mom beaing eaten in front of him setting everything in motion. The ending for me was fitting. It has a nice message about the never ending cycle of violence and that even in the most insignificant moment in life, you'll find happiness because you were born into this worl. Peak Fiction

The way I was able to understand the loop better was that the end is actually the beginning. Somehow, some way, Eren was able to get to the paths. And once there he made the plan to do the Rumbling and have his friends become the heroes of the world. He said everything happens in an instant, and from his pained look, it seems he had no time to make a decision and sent Dina towards his mom. This had the secondary effect of giving young Eren the motivation to go on this path of destruction. In season 2 ep 9, after Eren was captured and having the conversation with Reiner and Bertholt he loses it and says he has to make sure he makes them suffer in the worst way possible. Ymir then looks at him and tells him that if he’s going to be acting like this (a maniac) then she really has no hope for him.

Nice catch on their concept or use of time. I was having a hard time describing it but yes other characters experience time in a linear manner. Also, notice the foreshadowing with Armin's declaration and convincing speech? The same way he gave that speech when the garrison tried to kill Eren in S1 ep 10? Gahd or how Eren actually died inside a titan's mouth?? Also, hope you saw the scene where King Fritz was stabbed and Ymir focused on her daughters before she finally rested in peace. 2000yrs ago, she protected the King and got herself chopped and fed to her daughters. With Mikasa killing Eren, going against her feelings, sort of released Ymir from her nightmare attachment to the King. Ymir prolly saw herself in Mikasa because of her love for Eren (f* up as that is😅) Ugh. Anyhow goodjob to every1 involved😂 what a ride

Not it wasn’t predetermined 😂 The attack titans cant see the entire future, the attack titan only has the ability to see glimpses of the future which is why Kruger knew Armin and Mikasa’s name (because he saw them in little glimpses of Eren’s life in the future). Eren had ENHANCED attack titan powers because he got the attack and founding titan which allowed him to see more of the future. When he says he tested (when Armin says they should find another way) he means that he tested different possibilities to see which would be the best outcome and this is what he thought up of. He proceeds to say WHY this outcome was the best one, because he is an idiot who got power. In other words, he isn’t smart, he couldnt think of that many things. If it had been Armin or Erwin who got the power im sure the outcome would have been different and probably better because they are much smarter and they could have tested several different ideas and possibilities that were better than whatever Eren tested. Also no he did not know what Mikasa would do yet when they were in the snowy field so he didnt know he was dying yet until the next time he meets with them (those locked memories he erased from them were at entirely different moments from each other). The kids-teens one was probably soon after the events of Armin getting beat up, the one when they are older in and seeing the ocean was when Armin was on the boat with Annie. He met with them individually through the paths since all eldians are connected. Mikasa’s outcomes saved everyone because she is like ymir, she loved someone and that person was doing horrible things (king fritz oppressed many races and Eren was committing Mass Genocide). She wanted to see if Mikasa was willing to kill the one she loved even doe he was doing horrible things because Ymir couldnt do it when she was alive. She couldnt bring herself to kill King Fritz and obeyed him even after dying and going to the paths because she loved him. Mikasa was always constantly trying to be on Eren’s side even trying to convince everyone to save Eren and not kill him even thought he clearly needed to be killed. She managed to do it which by made Ymir go like “Ok..ill stop and end it too.” So Ymir got rid of all titan powers and let herself die to finally rest.

Personally not a fan of the ending..In a vacuum the ending itself isn't terrible, but in relation to everything else that happened previously it disappointed me. I think that the moment Zeke and Eren went to the paths and started the whole predestined thing, the show started going downhill. Grisha telling Zeke to stop Eren even though right after he gives him the titan power..Eren killing his mom but letting Reiner blame himself for it..Ymir saving Zeke when she was still following King Fritz wishes.. Eren making Ymir open her eyes but she still needs Mikasa to kill Eren..Characters getting sidelined such as Historia..Levi and Reiners plot amour as well are some of my reasons.

The whole Eren being a 'Slave to Freedom' or whatever is all bullshit tho, if I'm not mistaken. Some inconsistent added crap to anime with malicious intent.
If you go deep into the story, you will know it's a fake ending. True ending is yet to come. Some plotholes are there not without a reason, for 10 years at least... Everything is still ahead, beyond that hell, and only the ones that keep moving forward will ever understand.
