The 90s era JTCC and JGTC cars are the ones I adore the most. Sadly those two racing series got very little air time in the US even long after those series were over but I built many scale models of GT-R's like the famous blue Calsonic R32 just to name one. Love what Built by Legends is doing and I appreciate this channel covering it in such detail.

It looks a lot like the JTCC car you have pictured at 16:01 used a reverse flow the engine to allow the use of ITBs and a well tuned carbon fiber induction chamber to produce more power. As mentioned this allows mounting of the engine lower in the chassis.
@visionenippon-captbradford93443 жыл бұрын
Yes. That is right. There are almost no photos left even within Japanese media that seems to exist ( perhaps I just haven’t found it yet) or the original 1994 JTCC side flow exhaust. The screenshot of the engine you mentioned is a later version reverse head. Even any shot of the engine of a JTCC EG9 is really hard to come by.
@LZ6U3 жыл бұрын
@@visionenippon-captbradford9344 It looks like standard touring car stuff. Somebody read the rules and found that it wasn't illegal to re-mount the engine lower. Using the free space in front of the engine for the larger carbon air box may have been a secondary benefit. Or maybe the induction change was the goal with the lower engine mounting a secondary benefit. Top level touring cars really only look like production cars. Get up close and you'll find everything has been re-engineered for going fast. If the budget is large enough and the rules don't disallow it, the engineers will do it. Ford's BTCC Mondeo V6 had the engine leaned way over to get it low and rearward for similar reasons as Honda did on the flow reverse or side exhaust routing. The BTCC Mondeo raced with a 60 degree V6 but one head pointed up while the other forwards. Exactly nothing like a production car of the same body shell.
@legros7313 жыл бұрын
@@LZ6U no he talk about the reverse head h22 in the picture show for a couple of second the head is litteraly flipped 180° so the intake face the front of the car and the exhaust face the firewall don't remember why they did this but it some freaking great engineering
