And it has a native linux version! I've been on the fence about a couple of different synth choices and this software just might have put me in the JDXI camp. Purely a linux user, learning LMMS and looking for a real synth to record with. This JDXI covers just about everything in one box.

Great editor! It's a pity it stays in the alpha fase for years and years now. Is there any chance you're finishing it and the greyed out functions (e.g. Vocoder) will be functional too? Or is the editor "left behind" ? (i REALLY hope not)

Any way I can CC "learn" these parameters to a Midi Controller?? Its unbelievable there is NO actual controller for ALL of the JDXI parameters availibe even in 2023. Its INSANE no one has been able to come up with a good template or Controller for this synth. If this thing has an external controller or if this was able to "Learn" CC messages this would kill many other synths on the market. The menu diving on this thing is what scares people away and rightfully so, But Im keeping mine and going to keep searching for a way to get this set up with a Faderfox to access all of these parameters.

Hi Ranzee, I really find your videos helpful. I have had my JDXi for just over a year and the have just started using the manager. Could I ask you, I have made a riff in one program and followed by some string chords in another program. When I change from one program to the next there is a slight lag. I was wondering whether there is anything I need to change in the menu so that it changes seamlessly? Thank you
@ranzee5 жыл бұрын
Hi Nsera, not aware of anything - other than sending a program change message via MIDI CC - have you tried that?
@nsera94625 жыл бұрын
Hi Ranzee, thanks for your quick response. Silly question, but what does the CC refer to? Do I go into system and change something in the MIDI settings?
@ranzee5 жыл бұрын
@@nsera9462 no MIDI control change (CC) are MIDI messages sent from a MIDI controller or computer to your JD-XI - there's a video on my channel all about it :)

Thanks Ranzee, I will have a look at the video. Much appreciated. I really like the manager for the JDXi, it makes it so much easier to edit rather than the menu diving.

Excellent video, thank you. I've downloaded it but what Midi settings are required in the JD-Xi?. The test is ok but the adjustments within the editor don't seem to transfer to the JD-Xi in spite of selecting 'read from'.
@ranzee5 жыл бұрын
You set the MIDI on the first screen (the control panel) - if you aren't seeing the JD-XI on the dropdown options - then it's likely you haven't install the JD-XI drivers.

Hi Enorasis Project! Thanks :) You can make patches from init, with the firmware 1.5 update - there are extra "user" banks - all of these are init patches. Just choose one, import it from the edit buffer - and you're away!

@ranzee5 жыл бұрын
Hi Pulse2AM, the Edit Select is for the Digital Partial (1, 2 or 3) that you are editing. Each digital voice has 3 partials - which is how the Roland SuperNatural sound engine works. You can also edit them individually or combined. More is explained here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHO0eaSve8h6fJY

Great video! Thanks! But still I didn't understand how to save the synthesizer in banks so that I could then open it without the participation of this application? For example, in a live performance. Or are these saved patches somehow copied to the synthesizer?

Can you mention what connections and routings you had, specifically? Did you only have midi connected and nothing else? If so, how/where were you routing the sound (obviously midi doesn't make a sound on its own)? Great vid!
@ranzee7 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, The JD-XI was connected via USB to the PC. The audio was connected to a mixer (MX-1) via the audio output on the JD-XI (specifically for recording the video). You can use the JD-XI as an audio interface too.

@ranzee5 жыл бұрын
Hi Federico, please ensure you install the Roland JD-XI drivers from their website. The JD-XI isn't USB class compliant. If you have done that already - then you will need to select it in the setup MIDI section. Ensure you haven't anything else running (no Ableton or another DAW for example).
@ColossusBall3 жыл бұрын
No matter what I do, I can not get this program to send a signal to the JDXI. The JDXI USB drivers are installed. The JDXI shows up as an option in the MIDI Device drop downs. I hit Test, nothing happens. Edit: Test makes a noise, but still no other communication.

Hi Can you tell me how to do the input and output devices. I am plugged in to the computer but nothing comes up on the manager. Many Thanks.
@ranzee6 жыл бұрын
Hi Geoff, it could mean that either a) you haven't installed the JD-XI USB driver from the Roland JD-XI download webpage or b) you haven't restarted your computer since installing it - or maybe you might have too many USB devices hanging off your one USB port (a USB hub perhaps?). Try these things see how you go. All the best luck with it mate. Cheers, Ranzee.
@geoffdeanthemeparks6 жыл бұрын
Thank you Ranzee. I eventually found the problem. It was changing the midi setting to Generic within the Synth and not the recommended setting that Roland suggest that you do on their web site. Thank you for getting back to me and hope that this is something else that will help others that may find themselves in the same situation as myself.

This is a great tutorial and incredible software. Does anyone have any idea on whether additional PCM waveforms can be added (or saved in the JD-Xias PCM for local editing availability)?
@ranzee2 жыл бұрын
PCMs are fixed - as they are part of the SuperNatural engine. There's a lot to choose from here!
@ambidex2 жыл бұрын
@@ranzee thanks for clarifying. I don't regret buying one, as I only spent $240 and it's a powerful device, but I sure wish I'd have done more research about the SuperNATURAL engine to understand its limitations. I thought I was getting a basic entry into having an analog mono-synth AND a wide open access to a modern Digital synth and library. The sounds from my old Yamaha SY-22 are superior to many of the digital tones available and the lack of extensive libraries for a device this popular surprises me. I still love the little thing so far and look forward to using it for its own sound generation as well as a little Softsynth controller. The Drum and Vocoder aspects alone make it a worthy little device.

Seems the MIDI device is not recognized on your PC. Is it connected by USB? Then check the JD-Xi's "USB Driver Mode" setting: "Generic" is for MIDI transfer. The other one, "Vendor," requires you to install Roland's driver.

Hi again, and you've got the Output and Input MIDI Devices set to JD-XI correctly in the JDXI-Manager as shown here in the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHabfoOXgbuJacU ? Cool video, and looks like a pretty cool editor (as far as those things go). Personally I think editors are the devil! I curse the day synth makers thought it right to skimp on the front panel controls, and "replace" the functionality with a computer based editor. It's such a pity the JD-Xi is limited that way, because it's a cool and great sounding synth on the cheap. Of course a good editor is better than nothing, but would always prefer a good physical control surface. Excellent work mate! :-)
@ranzee7 жыл бұрын
Hi Marc :) Thanks for the nice words. Although I agree with you in theory, I think the JD-XI is actually one of the best synths to be released in the past 5 years. The depth of this synth is a lot more than what the physical product gives itself credit for. After seeing how much editing ability the drum part has - I'm blown away by this ... another video to come just on that!
