I bought one on dec last year (2018) and I totally recommend it, the jd xi never let me down, what I mean is that, it has been amazing. The sounds, the effects, the drum machine, the 2 digital synths, the analog synth! The way you can do loops and create a song, the 4 channels allows you to do a bass line, a lead line, chords and with a simple beat with the drum machine you have a song and you can jam along with it for hours 🤲🏻✨🎹 love it!

Does it have synthesis capabilities, ie can you start with an oscillator(s) and add modulation and filters? Or is it strictly modifiable presets? In Canada this is available for the same price as a Korg Minilogue and I'm really keen on the bare-bones aspect of the Korg, but this seems to be capable of producing a greater variety of sounds, and I can't seem to find out whether that's due to its actual capabilities or whether it's all presets.
@thevainestknives48436 жыл бұрын
They're the same price in the US, too. I played both today at Guitar Center and found the Roland JD Xi much more fun to play. Its pre-set sounds are vast, familiar (if you're looking for classic synth sounds), and convenient. The Minilogue, while more customizable, has a much bigger learning curve, which proved frustrating to me (a novice when it comes to synths). However, the look and feel of the Minilogue are far superior: bigger keys and sturdier, less fussy construction. In the end, I couldn't make up my mind and ended up walking out with neither synth. :P
@Jason759133 жыл бұрын
Init patches exist, it is at the end of each category for each of the four parts. There is no lack of "synthesis capabilities" with any modern roland except digital pianos like FP30, they are all standard-ish subtractive synths, but the romplers like Juno-DS are more complex, allowing for a far wider range of sound design capability

@leonardorubini28085 жыл бұрын

@markanderson10414 жыл бұрын
I’ve got them both. I bought the Minilogue because I thought the synth had a superior sound to my jdxi (I think it was just a better keyboard amp at GC though) 1 year later and I only break out the Minilogue when I really want to expand the resonate capabilities on a synth line. I’d use the minilogue if I wanted to really make a unique synth sound, however the entire jdxi concept has exponentially more possibilities (if you want to expand on the sound you can always chain in pedals) and is easy to blend to throw virtually any sound needed. Also I’ve already sent my minilogue in to be worked on and I barely use it. I throw that jdxi around pretty carelessly though. The minilogue is really great (for those who aren’t super rough on their gear) though if you teach your self as you go- it has a built in sound wave display that lets you see how your adjustments impact your sound live. If I had to take one with me, I’d always choose the jdxi. I love the cinsoft sound in the pads section.

The microkorg, as far as i'm aware is more built on premade sounds that you tweak in a minor way, this is based on a more DIY approach of starting from the bottom up, creating your own sounds. with the microkorg you're more or less limited to the sounds they provide. That depends on what you want it for. This has a sequencer and drum sounds so you could actually make a whole beat on this by itself. The other two do not have a sequencer or drum sounds, though if you know even a little about sound design you could make percussion like sounds with them. In my opinion the microkorg sounds the best out of the three but that is totally subjective and your ears may not feel the same.

@@solounusuariomas5574 the build and look affected how he perceived the sound to an exaggerated extent, JD-Xi only sounds "like plastic" if you program a typical EDM "plastic pluck", which is dependent on the filter, resonance, and amp EG, but JD-Xi doesn't make plastic plucks quite as good as Massive or Serum/Vital (or Juno-DS), but it can otherwise make any EDM pluck except funky wavetable or FM plucks
