What role does jealousy play in your life?
What are your boundaries when it comes to connecting with others while you're in a relationship?

I've actually been talking with my boyfriend about open relationships (the concept, if we'd be comfortable with it, what it means, etc.) largely because watching your videos has really piqued some curiosities and questions in my psyche of how and why this works for some people. My bf and I basically concluded that it wasn't for us, although we both of us agreed that we'd talk about/consider it if either of us was more seriously curious down the line. I will say that even being able to honestly talk about it and knowing that its a not off-limits conversation is an incredible feeling. What started as a talk about being "open" ended in us understanding more about what we look for in intimacy and what drives attraction and jealousy for us. Thanks Shan! keep doing what you do

I was a virgin when I got married at 24 ---inexperienced in sex and romance. I married my best friend. We had known each other since we were 15. Less than a year into being married he suggested an open relationship. I was in an instant shocked , confused and heartbroken but agreed to experiment with the notion --partly because we were intellectuals and I thought I could intellectualize that monogamy was a cerebral construct and that humans could potentially love more than one person at a time. We didn't get very far in that experiment--- I became wildly jealous and extremely anxious ( mind you this was 20 years ago before it was a trend ). The thought of him giving his affection to another woman , a stranger, just floored me and made me paranoid. Its something I would say that you don't want go into blindly. But maybe that is because I personally connect sex & love . Polyamory basically injured my psyche and my ability trust men for many years but worse it injured my connection with him and ultimately contributed to the unraveling of the marriage. I've never really been the same since. Im still highly anxious about the thought of a partner leaving me for someone else and I find it very hard to go with the flow in the beginning phase of new relationships. Which ultimately sabotages the connection. The idea of dating multiple people casually and without commitment also throws me off balance. In short, that little polyamory experiment for me broke a spiritual covenant which basically messed with my mind and heart in a very bad way for a very long time. Only now am I finally getting counseling to try and show up more confidently in romantic relationships. Maybe I was too old fashion for that experiment -- or there was bot enough communication. But I know what I like and appreciate and that is a Man who chooses to be faithful and monogamous. It makes me feel safe and protected in life and a partnership. Im amazed how the young women of today don't seem bothered. I actually wish I could be that open and relaxed. I feel that partnership should never be a jail or prison on another human beings desires. But Im not when it comes to love. I prefer learning depths of one person to breadth of experience with many. Good luck to everyone out there. The times we are in today are not for the faint of heart. 🙄

They simply use the term "open relationship" and it triggers you and makes you uncomfortable based on your own perception of what that means. However, if you listen, the principle of what they're doing is simply being completely honest and open in a relationship with no boundaries; no matter what you're being honest about. We often hold back on being honest with our partners and honest with ourselves based on what we think should be allowed in a relationship, when in fact, our growth process as human beings is anything but linear. Relationships are not about ego and possession and rather about growth, and that growth process looks different for everyone. You hear the term "open relationship" and try to diminish it to sex with other people and having a lack of self control, when in fact what they are speaking about is the essence of unconditional love and trying to build a healthy relationship through practicing what they do in an attempt to break down an old destructive relationship paradigm. This is simply how they're choosing to try to do that right now, and it may or may not change as they grow and evolve more as with all things in life.
@pasmetha
@pasmetha 4 жыл бұрын
Open relationships is about sex with others. If it was based on unconditional love, why don't they try polyamory? Share your love with anyone, but they reduce the relationship to only being open with sex.

Shan BOODY From a quick browse through the comment section, you NEED to keep making open relationship videos. It seems like people are having a hard time grasping that it's a mutual agreement between partners that includes boundaries and, especially compared to traditional couples, is based on 100% trust. I've never been in an open relationship myself (closest I've experienced would be a casual dating relationship where we both knew that our current lives/goals weren't going to match up, but we prioritized each other over anyone else while having the freedom to seek someone who would fit) but I totally get it. I feel like more couples would be better off if they considered an open relationship instead of the black and white ultimatum of monogamy or breakup.

For the Open Relationships and You question, I couldn't find an answer that matched but I've been in an open relationship and now I'm in a monogamous relationship. I know a lot of people are shooketh by this type of relationship. I used to be too, but since learning about yours... I respect it. There's a real genuineness and romance that comes along with continuously choosing your partner while having the freedom to choose someone else. The words monogamous, open, polymory precede the word "relationship" in the lives of countless couples. That word is pretty much self defined so hey, just do you.

I have been observing the way Shannon non-verbally communicates with those whom she features on her videos, I love watching her because simply she's sincere, she wholeheartedly means everything she says. With Jared, she's calm and centered, proud and content with what she's got (with him). Her voice tone is calm and loving, she keeps her eyes fixed on his and doesn't shy away from what's being discussed. She genuinely smiles, giggles and laughs and it makes me (at least) happy. She loves what she is doing. I love, love seeing her happy.

The hate and, in most cases, misunderstanding toward open relationships is wild to me. I've been in an open relationship for 5 years and the idea that I love my partner less or that he doesn't love me because we're sexually or emotionally involved with other people is crazy to me. At the end of the day, your relationship is whatever you and your partner want it to be. If it's monogamous, cool, if it's polyamorous, cool--if you're asexual, even, great. Just do what makes you happy so long as it doesn't impede the well-being of others~

How many of you just have ONE friend?? Ok. You genuinely love all of them, right? Ok. It takes effort and consideration to maintain these friendships, yes? Ok. It's really honestly truly not that difficult of a concept to understand. If it's not for you, it's not for you. Some people don't like green peppers. Don't eat them. Don't shame people who do. It's not that big of a deal. Spending time trying to convince people who don't like green peppers that their lives will change for the better once they finally get with the program.....sounds ridiculous right? Yeah that's kind of how at least half of y'all sound. Its getting old. The whole point of the relationship styles that you all prefer is create happiness, yes? Ok. They are happy. Same destination. Different journey. People get so distracted from the point of everything. You are supported, Shannon.❤️

Assuming that you aren't sleeping with them, your friends can't give you STD's or have you unknowingly raising a child that isn't biologically yours. That's why we've evolved to have the emotion of jealously. To protect us from the cons of sleeping around. It's no different than why the emotion of fear exists. The problem I see with this discussion is that a lot of folks act as if there aren't tangible risks to promiscuous behavior.

I'm in an Open relationship. The role that Jealous plays in my life is self reflectance. As my ability to identify jealous and the reason why I am jealous grows, the journey it has taken me is through the path of self affirmation and inner reflection of Why am I jealous, is it because of insecurity (Often times it is) Is it the fear of Missing out ( Some of the times it is) raising questions like "Am I good enough? Does that last question even matter? what does being in a relationship even mean?". Open relationships come with lots of turmoil but can bring about the biggest freedom, and with that freedom can come with the deepest of Love because everyday we choose to come home to each other, default to watch tv on the couch together, and to eat dinner together and to keep each other's feelings of insecurity, or FOMO at ease, and to allow each other to enjoy things in life that may or may not involve the other - which includes exploring new love interests (Compersion).

I know I could not be in an open relationship but I don't judge others who are. It is THEIR life! We are so conditioned to one way to have a relationship when that just isn't the case. The ways in which people choose to express their sexuality and parts of themaelvesl, as long as consensual and legal, is up to them. Everyone in the comments bashing it should maybe try to learn more about it and not feed into the hegemony of what defines a relationship✨

So happy for you two! You both seem great together and I love listening to you talk about your relationship and what it means to you. I just got out of a relationship that wasn't the best match so now I've learned more about what I need in a relationship and what I need to give. Hearing you talk about your own experiences gives me some hope and reminds me to push myself to be the best for others and not settle for someone who isn't the best for me.

I absolutely looovvveeee that you guys finally touched on the topic of jealousy. I have a similar mindset when it comes to my relationship and it works for us. Although we haven't yet experienced other people we know that it's an open possibility. My bf however has the thought that jealousy should not take place if we were to see other people but I explained to him that it's totally normal and we can move past it. Now I don't feel alone in the world bc some else also thinks it's normal!! Lol

When I was in a relationship. We were okay with flirting with others, cause it is healthy for the relationship. It is good to know that your partner still "got it going on". We also talked about other people being attractive. We were in a monogamous relationship. It was not a open relationship, but we were open with each other about everyone.. So it is definitely possible in any form of relationship title.

A lot of ppl are on here telling Shan and Jared how to live their life when y'all barely know them. Personally I wouldn't be in an open relationship because that's not what makes me happy. They're happy and content. I love your channel Shannon. Keep the good content coming. ❤️❤️

I saw your face drop when he said yes to open marriage... I mean I understand the purpose of an open relationship, hell - i'm in one too. I think it allows for exploration most importantly but in marriage. I personally would have to disagree with it being open. That is my husband, for me and no-one else. Especially when kids start being brought into the equation. I feel when jared said the closing of the open relationship leads to shadiness is something he needs to deal with (overtime). You can still communicate with your partner just as openly if not more so in a "closed" relationship.

+CoolKidOx there is nothing in this video that I was hearing for the first time ever so I was never surprised at the answer. I love how honest you were in this video, Shannon. I literally paused the video when he asked you if you'd ever leave him because I had a moment where I thought about what MY answer would be if my partner asked me that. I thought "Yes" and was glad you said the same thing because that's just being 100% honest. I feel like some people would actually say no to this question and idk how because you're right, we only live once and it's up to us to make it the BEST and shit, sometimes that means choosing up. Love you! Keep living your truth :)

I honestly don't know how my next relationship is going to work or with who or when lol. In terms of dating, can you give examples. This is one the best videos you two have made on this subject. As someone who's unable to have relationships, I'm always envious of people who have open ones. I've never understood the concept of monogamous relationships. They just seem very restrictive to me. I don't think most human beings are wired that way. It's a perfectly normal thing to have attraction to other people and I don't find anything wrong with it if there's clear communication and everyone's being safe and responsible about it.

To me, jealousy doesn't play too much of a role in my love life - I went through a pretty horrible breakup which burned a sense of self-love in me that isn't wrapped in another person, so I have that always be it single or not. If I was to talk about a hypothetical relationship, what my partner asks of me might incur jealousy; if it's too much for me to quash it I'd appreciate them hugely for acknowledging and abiding by that boundary, as I would theirs. I'd hate, however, for anyone I'm with to feel like they can't tell me about their desires or feelings due to fear of how I'd react. I'm otherwise very competitive in terms of my career etc. but I try to channel it into industriousness rather than bitterness. For me, too far is being sold a false dream, or seeing a partner engage in something self-destructive (be it with another person or not). Love your videos Shan xox

I think having an open marriage is messed up simply because if you can sleep with someone else you have not been able to receive what you need from the relationship.
