What I like the most about JC is that I can totally relate to him: he's a guy who means well, but has made mistakes and has done his best to reach respectability again and take good care of his health. He was well versed in the world of exercise while giving you the knowledge of how to stretch and become more flexible without hurting yourself. I do aerial silks/ hoops/ hammock and a big part of it is having endurance and flexibility. && 100% this is how it ALWAYS goes when ppl say “can you do the splits? Teach me!” They are interested for like 2.5seconds and never take it seriously. This man is amazing! He knows in order to be great it’s important to have the basics down.

Jcvd has a 18-1 professional kickboxing record and a 40-2 something record in point karate, he retired from kickboxing at the age of 21 because of the movie opportunities but his coach at the time (one of the best kickboxing coaches) said that he could have become world champion. At that time there wasn't a lot of money in fighting so it was the smart move to go for the movie career.

I was unexpectedly so glad that JCVD gave an understanding of body development such that flexibility is needed first, then comes strength - this is what I’ve come to realise for myself without having it confirmed like this, especially from someone who I loved watching and found inspiration through his films, as a kid and even now, particularly the parts of his training regime. 🙏 On a side note, I was surprised to see how much taller Conan O’Brien is over Jean Claude Van Damme - John Claude is 1m76 (5ft 9in) while Conan is 1m93 (6ft 4in) tall.

I'm diggin the advice at the beginning about stretching and keeping the weight lower and how you have to listen to your body after you get older .. very true .. easier to get injured when you're older .. after your 40s .. it just happened to me and my shoulder .. I've never injured my shoulder .. until now .. listen to your body .. plenty of stretching .. keep the weight manageable and don't overtrain .. and most importantly .. EAT RIGHT

I'm not even a fitness fanatic and I often stress to friends and co-workers the importance of doing regular stretching exercises throughout the day. Even if you don't have a fitness routine or work out at all; having a regular stretching routine is very beneficial for your body. Hearing JCVD give Conan and the audience a little lecture on the importance of stretching made me think "Yes, exactly!"

Van Damme is spot on with pretty much everything he’s said , he knows his stuff. I do those exercises in Taekwando, and they really do give you a good stretch over time.
