All, this recording was done in Mannheim and a record was made "Jean Cox sings Wagner". The conductor of the orchestra of the National Theater in Mannheim was Hans Wallat, one of the most profound experts of Wagner's work. He was GMD in Mannheim from 1970 until 1980.

El mundo pierde un gran tenor Wagneriano, mi mas profundo pesar por un artista de esta talla.

Cox was the Siegfried of the 70s and the best option until Jerusalem's arrival in the 80s. What a pity he's unfairly unforgotten unless for the recording of "Meistersinger" under Varviso, where he was regarded as "mediocre". Today we would KILL for a Siegfried or Walther like his. Check my canal to hear his and other Siegfrieds!

....indeed, we suffer from mediocre tenors. No Jean Cox where ever I listen to. Actually I was never convinced of Mr. Jerusalem. He did the entire Wagner, however he always sounded not free, in some way limited. In any case far away of Melchior, Lorenz, Hopf and Windgassen. RDS

Alle Achtung! Schade, dass ich diesen Sänger nur vom Hörensagen kenne.

This is one of my favorite audio clips from Jean's Bayreuth days. There was also a wonderful tv show about Bayreuth that had some beautiful color video of Jean in a dress rehearsal. Anyone know how to get a copy of that??
