The main point of that video is just strikingly obvious: if you want a great product - let the professionals, making it just do their job. Do not alter their course, do not interfere with their imagination and ideas - and you will have a masterpiece when they are done.

Maravilloso arte de estos grandes del comic como del cine, personalmente mi heroe es Moebius con esas historias surgidas del puro universo surrealista ubicado en la cabeza de Giraud. Gracias por compartir este video, tenia años sin verlo.

I've been worshiping their creations since the first time I laid my eyes on Moebius sketch book in a small dilapidated bookstore near a friend's house, and the Valerian series, over 20 years ago. And when I saw "the Fifth Element" I instantly knew the concept artist behind it. In retrospect, it wasn't until 10 years ago that started to prefer European comics rather than the American. But I fancy both in general due to my experience with reading both genres when I was very young.

I like to believe it was not a coincidence. RIP both of them!!

²Very deep & marvelous obituary for the two fathers of great Dream . Thank you for this moment of pure joy. If Luc Besson gets a chance, he could use his original script for "The Fifth Element," a.k.a. "Zaltman Bleros," with all the designs by Mezieres and Moebius, use an artist influenced by Moebius, and make it into a graphic novel. I mean, look at the graphic novel versions of never-made or prototypes for films in recent years: 1): Darren Aronofsky with his original scripts for, "The Fountain," (i.e. his epic version, shut down when they were ready to go, though made as a lower-budget film) and "Noah," (i.e. first draft with Ari Handel) the former published by Vertigo/DC Comics, and the latter published by Image Comics. 2): Kevin Smith, with his screenplays for film adaptations for "The Green Hornet," and "The Bionic Man," made into graphic novels by Dynamite Entertainment. 3): The original script for "Star Wars," written back in 1973/74/75, made into a graphic novel many years later, released by Dark Horse Comics and after it's contract expired, republished by Marvel Comics.

Having worked in the film industry for a short time, I can tell you, set designers, costume designers and storyboard artists work their arses off 6 days a week... 7 days in France according to this story. It's all creative excitement, at first, the hard slog and deadlines got to me after a while and I thought... I can get more money for working half as hard as a freelance artist, on advertising agency storyboards. I wouldn't call myself a workaholic, or lazy... but two ex-wives did... I was a workaholic... wife number one... and lazy, wife number two... Go figure.

Hi, there is an error in your vid you said Mezieres & Moebius together continue to work to Valerian. They never collaborate about Valerian & Laureline the comic books. Mezieres was the only drawer of Les Aventures Spatiotemporelles de V & L.

Flosten Paradise in the movie always looked to me like an iron (for clothes). As a child I play with my mother's futuristic-looking iron pretending it was a spaceship (then I saw in Last Jedi that they also played with the same idea - iron as spaceship - as a gag).

Yes, L.Besson is a good commercial producer,but his deficient artistic side drops the final product down to a B-serie film.I say it but I admit that the challenge was hard.If he had been aware enough of the huge potential of Moebius & Mezière,he shouldhave free them drivin any side of the film .These two guys are so far ahead in dream art,:no one could drive them without vital loss,.As did Kusturica with the gypsy tribe ( Chat noir,Chat Blanc),Besson should let it to their free delirium.

Thank you !! By the way, this was a really great video. I met Mezieres last year finally after 40 years being a fan of his work. For me he is the best sf world builder ever. I liked Blueberry in these days as well, in fact, I think Giraud was better than Mezieres at drawing people, horses in more detail than Mezieres. I am not a fan of his later style. If you like the style of Blueberry, you should google for images of 'Hans Kresse', a Dutch artist, who also draw stories about indians in these days. He was famous for putting a lot of different emotions on faces.

+slitor No. Metal Hurlant translates to Howling Metal, but Heavy Metal was just only the American title, maybe because it was cooler.
@fyodorkaramazov21367 жыл бұрын
Can be both. You can't really translate because "métal hurlant" is some kind of surrealist title, it doesn't make any sense. In 1975 in France very few people used word like "metal" or "heavy metal" about music, it was still just hard rock, so the American title is a nothing but a translation.

While the 5th Element may be an interesting film, to look at, story-wise and with much of the acting it really is a very bad film. And, due to the people who adore the film, it is actually excruciatingly overrated. By no means is it the worst film that I have ever seen; but, it is an extremely sub-standard film. Certainly one of the worst `popular` films that I have ever seen. Ever. In my entire life.
