I have been listening to Jean Luc Pointy since I was 18 years old and I have seen him perform three times. He is absolutely brilliant musically. His music has been and still is the soundtrack of my life.

It's surprising that the violin hasn't been more prominent in jazz, rock and popular music in our time. It's such a wonderfully expressive instrument - in the right hands. Certainly, Jean-Luc Ponty has done all he can to address this. Regrettably, I've seen him in performance only one time, but he and his entire band were absolutely flawless.

Rayford Griffin is SO incredible...🌹 Ponty’s best drummer ever. I’ve seen five others with band over the years. Griffin: power of Cobham, brilliance of Walden yet his OWN sound.

Feel sorry for you, mate. I bought a ticket to his concert in Brisbane in about 1978. Turned up at the venue but he never showed. Apparently not enough tickets sold. You could easily blame the promoter but a decent musician would have played for those who had bought tickets. All these years later KZbin strange way of linking has brought me to listen to what I missed out on way back then. Boring.
@robertboyle88222 жыл бұрын
@@frankrobinson1007 apparently you had bad luck and you must not be a musician if you think this is boring..go back to watching AC/DC
@jimmooney52238 ай бұрын
@@frankrobinson1007That's not the way it would work. For whatever reason if there were insufficient tickets sold the promoter would have canceled the booking with the venue. Therefore there would have been nobody on hand to take tickets, do the stage set up before and tear down after the concert and clean up the venue afterward. There would have been nobody to unlock the building at that time. The promoter would have also canceled hotel rooms and transportation to and from the concert venue. Plane tickets would have been canceled. So even if Ponty had showed up at the venue, he and his band would have been sitting out in the street next to you. Which admittedly would have been extremely cool for you

First of all, it was a pleasure and honor to hear Jean-Luc Ponty play. Everybody heard of the electric guitar. Very few have ever heard of the electric violin. Well folks, this is the poineet of that concept. ⚡️🎻 Those music lovers in the Midwwet states like Michgan, Illinois, Wisconsin & etc. You are Jean-Luc Ponty's most ravid, devoted & loyal fans. That's why he loves doing concerts in that region. I have some favorite tracks of Jean-Luc's music. My personal favorite is Pastic Idols from the Fabels album. Somehow, in the middle of the song. My brain would just freeze as I listened intently as he made his violin scream . 🤯 If a musician can move you or feel his music? That musician has fone above and beyond.. Jean-Luc Ponty, a legand iindeed. ❤️❤️❤️🎻🎻🎻🌹🌹🌹🌹

I first heard Jean Luc Pointy in 1980 on Upon The Wings of Music with Patrice Rushen, Ndugu, Ralphe Armstrong and Ray Parker Jr. I've been a fan ever since. Sunset Drive was incredible from A Taste for Passion. Many today have no idea what they are missing.

Talk about buried treasure! How this dude didn't become a fusion God is beyond me. Right from his days with Zappa, one could clearly see the genius here. Along with In a Silent Way, the work this guy did in the 80s is the guide book for fusing various forms of music together.

Seems to me Jean Luc's bow technique has been constantly improving over the years - I now hear very continuous string tones which shift seamlessly notewise, very smoothly and poetically, at the same time keeping only the essential notes in his solos while improvising, nothing superfluous being added to the melodic lines, economy being the hallmark of seasoned musicians.

The truth is, after the first song, in which JLP seemed even then a bit iritated, then it was some "guy" trying to impress the local audience. Local backup band... Sorry to see JLP had to put up with this. JLP is one of the MOST amazing composers, and then artists, "bringing his compositions to life". One of the greatest shows I ever saw, in 1980.
