Leif Segerstam passed away 3 weeks ago. This piece is certainly his best performance. RIP.

I fully understand that sentiment! However, it would be a little too fine-tuned to play whenever Finland beats us (=Sweden) in ice hockey! Det vackraste som någonsin skrivits av en nordisk kompositör! Jag har förstått texten från en engelsk översättning. Underbart vacker!

Over the years, more than 30 years, i was thinking that this was the hymn of Finland. I learned later then that is was not. But this one i can not forget. It is sitting in my head as beautful this is from Sibelius.

Finnish Composer Jean Sibelius composed Finlandia to Finnish People to give them Gourage to stand against Russias many attempts to take over Finland and destroy its culture and its very rich Language! Finlandia is written in the DNA of every Finnish person! Finlandia has also been suggested by many non-Finnish people as the common anthem of the Whole World!

I cannot believe i've never seen this video before. By far the best cadence and mood in this out of all the performances. People should also listen to Sibelius' "Tuonelan Joutsen", It truly hits my Finnish heart...

1979, I heard a musical group from Belfast deliver this, "a capella", completely impromptu, during the after-show bash following a performance of a musical group in Shannon, Ireland. I so wish I could remember more of the detail but the delivery of the piece itself remains imprinted on my memory to this day....
