Oh dear! Roehampton is my alma mater; I did my MA there. Such a shame to hear they’re cutting all those programmes, especially since they’ve spent so much money on renovating the buildings. Such a big, big shame. On a happier note: CONGRATULATIONS!!! A PhD is such a huge achievement! Now we can call you Dr Jean 🤩 Also, how funny, we’re also rewatching The Mentalist. We’re on the end of Season 5 now so I’m hoping Red John is right around the corner 🤞🏽

Dear Jean, I'm not a very active commenter here on Booktube but I've been following you for about 5 years now and I feel so very proud and excited for you to have finally reached this milestone in your career! I only have a Bachelor's degree but even though my degree was way less complex and massive than a phd I could still fully relate to your final week and mental state. Love this video. I have submitted my PhD corrections this past Saturday. However, now I find myself lost without having something to do. I do work full time but I am off now and just can’t find anything that will engage my attention. I will try mentalist on your recommendation and reading one of the books I bought and never red in the last 4 years when doing my PhD. And I agree life happens during the PhD, I had to go through divorce and parenting two kids and providing for them and myself. It was hard work. I hope you will be able to enjoy the extra feee time you have now and good luck with your viva in October.

Congratulations Jean! I'm a relatively recent subscriber, but I'm so proud of you for your accomplishments. I'm going through my own panic inducing paper right now, but it's nothing like a PhD, I'm working on my child's lesson plan for homeschooling this year. I'm immunocompromised, so I'm homeschooling due to Covid and other viruses that could kill me if the kid brings them home. I'm coping by reading books, playing lots of Animal Crossing (I'd play the Sims as well if I had it installed on my computer), crafting, and a bit of screaming. 😅 I actually collect toys, so yeah, I say go ahead and get yourself some toys (I say this as I sit next to a Barbie Dreamhouse that I didn't even have to buy, my neighbors were throwing it away).

Yay!!! Congratulations! (I finished my Master's in 2003 - when we had to take our document to a very specific print shop because they had the "right" paper for the library to bind the deposit copy and have two copies printed LOLOL)

They were still asking for physical copies bound a certain way until 2020, it took a worldwide pandemic for them to begin accepting email only submissions aha.

Interesting about monographs. I'm doing a master's in systematics (biology) and I've only heard monographs referred to as big compilations of all the known information about a specific group of organisms. Fun fact: If Darwin hadn't published Origin of Species he would still be remembered today for his monographs on cirripeds (barnacles).

Aah interesting and it makes sense - a monograph does just refer to a piece of writing on one specific subject so it must look different in every discipline.

Aha it hasn't been assessed yet and then there are typically corrections that need to be made - fingers crossed all goes well. After that it'll be published on the university's website. I do have a chapter coming out in a book called revisiting rape in antiquity next spring with bloomsbury academic branch though that is based on part of my thesis.

Being Greek I have to admit that I find your topic quite fascinating and it relates -unfortunately- to the epidemic of femicides taking place in modern Greece at the moment. It would it be very interesting to read how it was framed in the past and how the modern rhetorical discourse has evolved (basically blaming the victim).
