This was such a good haul! You are so lucky to have such caring friends who gift you such wonderful books! I added the Becky Chambers series to my TBR, because I have to know what the hype is about now!

Wyrme is a really old word for dragons, it literally means "worm" and is pronounced like worm :) And weald is a forest or wild region, so Wyrmeweald is worm-weald (dragon forest)

I just finished the cousins yesterday. And I have to say.... I LOVE this book so much. Literally the first line of it almost put me off, like I almost immediately put it down. But I’m sooo glad I read it. I really hope you like it.

Goldilocks sounds intriguing. The Murders of Molly Southbourne sounds absolutely brilliant. What a unique premise. Definitely adding that to my TBR. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on them both.

The libraries have a map of books set in Edinburgh and where in Edinburgh they (sometimes mainly, sometimes partially) take place! You should check it out. I even found a book set in a street I used to live in. www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?ll=55.95414998807987%2C-3.204331514453096&z=13&mid=1hkhLnpdhJEkiKa67NmkCTGxA7MY

I too love the Edge Chronicles. I recommend the Stewart/Riddell duo's trilogy Chaos Zone which is much better than Wyrmeweald (but Wyrmeweald is still worth reading).

I’m with you on Small Spaces. I read a fair amount of adult horror, and Small Spaces is surprisingly scary for a middle grade. The Bone Shard Daughter was so wonderful. I hope you love it. I’m also about to read the third book in the Wayfarerer series, so you’re not alone. 😉

One of the reasons I love your channel so much is that you're an Angela Davis fan (and generally interested in non-fiction and political reading alongside all the exciting fiction)! In the Verso 2021 diary, there is a quote from her for today's date: "Prisons do not disappear problems, they disappear human beings. And the practice of disappearing vast numbers of people from poor, immigrant, and racially marginalised communities has literally become business." Gulp, sadly still apt. Happy new year! Looking forward to hearing about all the books you love this year 😊

I’m looking for modern retellings of Celtic mythology, does anyone have any recommendations?
@SeanMByrne4 жыл бұрын
They're not quite retellings but I'd recommend 'The Call' and 'The Invasion' by Peadar Ó'Guilín if you're interested in YA Horror/Fantasy. They draw on Irish mythology and how Ireland was taken from the Sidhe (fey). Now they're exacting their revenge by kidnapping Irish children and hunting them.
