Laughed so hard at the 'meld your own ring'. My grandmother's engagement ring was a large Japanese pearl he dove for himself. The ring was capable of holding 10 supporting diamonds but only held two since it was all he could afford. The story behind it is worth more than the ring itself.

This actually makes me kind of sad. It used to be enough to say, "I just want to marry you now, we don't have to make a big show of it." Now we say, "I love you, but we if we don't have the money to make a giant grandiose event of our wedding, we have to put it off until we do." And every decade the traditions and standards just get more and more complicated.

Grandpa's sportin' some stylish lilac glasses, there. I like how he shouts AT ALL TIMES. I got married 28 years ago. Can't imagine all of the crap people deal with now during planning. I think grandpa's scenario sounds much more desirable. "You walk down the aisle. You say I do. She says I do. You walk back up the aisle together." Simple, really!

Congratulations on your engagement, Jake! My wedding was definitely more like Grandpa Brad's, only in 2015. My engagement ring was one of my husband's great-grandma's rings. Our wedding party was two bridesmaids and two groomsmen. Our guest list was barely 100 people. Our reception was at the local Senior Center, our food was burritos made by a family friend. Our first night was at a Super 8. We didn't do a honeymoon and my husband was back to work two days later. All in all, the cost was about $3,500 and we paid for the whole thing. But here we are, even more in love with each other than we were on that lovely, simple wedding day. And six kids later, lol! God has blessed us!

I got married in 1995. I wasn’t interested in a huge wedding. His dad was a pastor so we got married there by him. His grandmother played the piano and his sister sang. My aunt did all the decorations. Two of my cousins had been married recently so she just used some of their stuff lol. I got the dress at a discount bridal shop. Our friend took pictures. I think the only expensive thing was the cake and I only got one bite of it. No big reception. Just the cake and punch. We didn’t want to start off married life in debt. I think some women are more concerned with their wedding than the actual marriage. We’ve been married 27 years and have 5 kids and are happy. I don’t regret not having a big wedding. The whole day went by so fast it was a bit of a blur anyway lol.

Started of as a joke but ended with major respect for these 171,000 Veterans and their tireless service!

My husband found an Edwardian style 100 year old ring on Etsy. Proposed on top of a mountain once we spent 3 hours hiking to the top. We spent about $300 on our wedding. Aaron wore a suit he already had and I wore his mom's wedding dress. We got married at 2 pm at our church and had cake reception in the basement. The cake and photography were donated as gifts from friends. I had one bridesmaid between my husband's two groomsmen. We took a 2 week honeymoon. Drove from South Carolina to Ashville at the Biltmore Estate, then Washington DC to see the Smithsonian museums, then drove all the way to Nebraska to see my family who threw us a small reception because they couldn't fly to SC for the wedding. Then we drove all the way home. That time together in the car was a perfect way to spend that time together. 🥰 If I could change anything, I would just skip the official wedding altogether and just gone to the courthouse. We have been married 6.5 years now!

Her dress was from Goldsmith’s (now Macy’s) or some other bridal boutique in Memphis. It’s mustard yellow with velvet trim and embroidery in green, brown, orange, and maybe purple? I really want to wear it for a photo/video shoot while I play violin in the woods in autumn but I haven’t done it yet. Someday🤗I’ll do her favorite hymns or the chart toppers from the 1940s.
