I took this train with my parents when I was 14. Don Young, the long time Congressman from Alaska, was on the train. I got to meet him, and he was a great guy and probably the least politician-like politician I've ever met. Very down to earth, and his wife Lou was lovely. The scenery on the train was amazing.

Rode both the Coastal Classic and the Denali Star trains last week! Your video from a few years ago was the selling point to upgrade one sector on each train to Gold Star class and it was well worth it. I agree, the Coastal Classic is the train to take (and upgrade on). And a bonus perk - the integration between the Alaska Railroad and the hotels/tours in the destinations it serves is fantastic. Everything aligned to the train timetable and it was so convenient being able to check bags all the way to the next hotel's front desk and have tours either pick you up/drop you off at the train depots. Made our trip very convenient. And a layover at SEA for some planespotting was the icing on the cake ;)

At 11:11 everyone is a rail fan at heart. I had a group of 40-50 people up in Maine at Old Orchard Beach a couple of weeks ago and in Old Orchard, the Amtrak Downeaster runs right through downtown. I’ve never had so many people ask me when a Downeaster train was coming because they wanted to be at a train crossing and see the train go by and the engineers did not disappoint at all. But it goes to show that everyone is interested in it and right now too, they have 2 special liveries together on the same set which makes it so much cooler

Thanks for helping us relive our train expedition back in 2016. For those who may not know, you can call Alaska Railroad and custom tailor an excursion. You can plan to do as much, or as little, as you like. You can do as few days or as many days you prefer. We selected a 7 day excursion in the Gold Star class. It started in Anchorage, headed south to Seward, then up to Denali. Every night we would stay at a different hotel along the way, with two nights in the Denali Backcountry Lodge. We walked on glaciers, ate fresh-caught salmon ate the base of a glacier, etc, etc. Then it was back to our hotel in Anchorage. I have two short videos on my channel if you're interested.

I took this route in June 2021 while pandemic restrictions were still in place. The crew was amazing... The sausage in the biscuits and gravy was raindeer as well, the outside weather was short sleeves for my wife and I (Wyomingites) and we had a blast. We spent a few days at the Van Gilder hotel, and hoped an amazing 8.5 hour Kenai Fjords National Park tour with Major Marine with Capt Laura.... If anyone you see this Capt Laura GO POKES!!!
