@planesandgolfgolfandplanes322 жыл бұрын
Do you reckon that the pilots knew about the flap issue just after departure? Listen to the ATC dialogue - the captain said that it was stuck on the way out. Would seem safer to burn the fuel in flight, land lighter, and on a longer runway (SFO is about 1,700 feet longer than Boston Logan). The travelling public doesn’t realise that stuff like this happens alot. I am surprised that the pilot requested emergency vehicles in fact.

As a 321 NEO Long Range captain (A321 253NX) I can say they are an excellent aircraft. My company uses them for Transatlantic travel between Europe and the US. They are a game changer in aviation terms as they operate so efficiently from a fuel point of view. We operate with a business class offering with full lie flat beds and an economy of 171 seats. 186 in total. They are the future when compared with the 757 which my company would have operated on the routes they now serve in the past. As for the flap issue encountered on this flight , it’s a non event for us pilots. It would only be a concern if operating into an airport with a short runway. SFO wouldn’t cause any such issues.

Delta has the highest numbers of canceled or delayed flights in the US. Considering most of their canceled or delayed flights are from maintenance or crew staffing issues and NOT from weather related incidents (as it is for American, United, and Southwest) I think it's clear to see they are not a "well run machine". Their operations in Atlanta are incredible, that's obvious. But overall, they are fairly low in customer service and reliability scores.

A little trick I learned last summer, when you’re on a flight, and you want to take a Timelapse video looking out the window, on most planes there’s a gap between the window and the shade. No one likes emergency anything when flying....so I like that even though it wasn't a problem, they let ATC know it could be and roll out the crews. SFO is not an easy airport to land at with OAK and SJC nearby plus smaller airports (San Carlos) close by. As for the A321neo, got a chance to fly from LAX to DAL last year on Alaska Airlines. They don't have anything like Delta's First setup. On the trip itself....always enjoy seeing my hometown featured (BOS), not just the airport as you flew over my old apartment.
@LeviRamsey2 жыл бұрын
It's also worth noting that prior to this, BOS-SFO had been typically a domestic 757 for a few years since Delta One service went away on this route. It's not like it went straight from D1 to FC with the neo coming. Since Delta uses that 757 configuration for some international flights (marketed as Premium Select, most notably to KEF), I suspect that we will see this be a Premium Select seat in at least those cases. The neo will also get some 1-1 lieflat + 2-2 Premium Select (likely this seat) versions which will take over BOS-LAX from the D1 757s; it might not be that surprising to see them go on some Boston TATLs either, especially since BOS's configuration makes it difficult to operate 330s and 764s (to say nothing of 350s!) to Terminal A.

Strangest thing I ever saw was when my plane was landing in Zurich. An armored personnel carrier with what looked like a 20mm gun in the turret pulled up next to the plane and shadowed it all the way to the gate. I have no idea what that was intended for. Then while waiting for them to open the door, I thought I saw something odd in a nook underneath the terminal about 500 feet away. I THOUGHT it was some weird sort of moving elevator. When my eyes adjusted I was in shock. It was a full size German made Leopard tank! I knew that the country had all kinds of underground networks kind of like the famous Maginot Line. There are hidden bunkers, fallout shelters and mortar launchers that can pop up and spray the skies with mortar fire within minutes. But I tell you, it feels very very weird arriving at an airport and seeing a tank sitting in the shade. I have no idea if there was someone inside but I have no doubt it's all ready for immediate action if ze Germans decide to come! 😁 Even IF that was remotely possible, I wouldn't be concerned. The Alps made it impossible for Hitler's panzers to invade so it would mostly be an air assault. I know for a fact that Switzerland bought dozens and dozens of Stinger launchers from the US for air defense and the militia do train with dummy rounds on drone targets.

Pretty cool that you got the ATC recordings. I've been in a couple of situations where we either aborted a landing (twice) or had to emergency land (once). The emergency I was on a Delta Connection CRJ and the gear didn't fully retract (we could hear it in the cabin and immediately knew something was wrong). Fortunately, it did redeploy. We flew around ATL for a while to burn fuel and then had an uneventful landing with emergency equipment similar to what you experienced. I chuckled a bit once safely rolling down the runway thinking of the scene in Airplane where the dalmation was atop the firetruck barking once the plane landed. Pilots are trained to aviate, navigate and then communicate so always a bit unsettling while waiting for them to safely complete the first two items. Similarly, on an aborted landing also at ATL on an A321, we hit wind shear as we were next to land. Very rough climb out and very scary until the pilot told us all was ok. We ended up in BHM and I rented a car and drive back to ATL. The folks up front are the best!

I had a very similar landing experience on Delta once coming in from Hawaii to San Diego on an L1011. Except that time they diverted us to LA because the runway in San Diego was too short to handle a faster landing particularly with a wide body

I retired after 43 years as a flight attendant with Delta. Thank you pandemic. It used to be routine to make the announcement "as a courtesy to other passengers who would like to sleep or watch the movie [when films were projected on a large bulkhead screen], may we suggest you lower your window shade." When we went to in-seat videos, the announcement was removed from our manuals.

Thanks for the wonderful video. As a flight dispatcher of over 20 years seniority, I'm glad the flight ended as smoothly as it did. I sure enjoy your channel and look forward to many more in the future.😄

Either way the a321 family only uses flaps 3 to land and not normally doing a flaps 4 landing to prevent the chance of a tail strike compared to the a320

glad the pilots are trained to land faster than it should that landing was nothing for them

First! Wow! The A321neo is amazing and I can’t wait to try the neo! Hopefully I’ll be able to fly in the Inagural revenue service to Seattle in August! I’ll be trying it sometime soon!

Props for respecting the audience and your craft enough to not clickbait the title. Good video. Resubbed :)

Great video. I was on a United flight from ORD 2 LGA 4 years ago and the wheels didn't come down fully. They let us know, told us the absolute worst that would happen is we land on the belly, which they are trained to do, but not to be alarmed by the emergency vehicles. Same situation. I felt calm because they are professionals who know how to stick a landing. No one needed medical attention. BTW I like those biz seats, though do often take Jetblue cross country for the beds.

Went Boston to San Fran, which is anywhere from 6-7 hrs total travel time, and still had 70 minutes of fuel remaining... that's impressive! Gotta love the Pratt GTF - real game-changer. And I still remember when the NEOs 1st were placed in revenue service, every YTuber talked about how quiet the engines are without the typical "buzzsaw" on climb-out... now, it's not even mentioned! But, hey, the breakfast menu quality is at least back to pre-Covid standards. Hallelujah!

I'm taking the same flight/NEO on Monday. Booked it once they've updated to the new equipment, very excited. Thanks for the videos as always!

That you also do "behind the scenes" content gives me a lot of confidence in your conclusions. Good job, Jeb!
