I was born and raised in Hawaii and was a staunch supporter of Hawaiian Air, even back in the 70s and 80s when they competed neck and neck with Aloha Airlines. Most of those amenities, with the exception of the legroom and larger seats, used to be the standard in economy. First class had menus, an on-call bar, and for that long of a flight two to three meals. It is still that way on international flights such as Korean air and Lufthansa. American carriers really seem to be cutting costs and offering lower quality of service.
@JeanClaudeCOCO3 жыл бұрын
When you compare them during covid times to those other carriers who fly on the same time length it’s really a differential. The only lounge I’ve seen come back fully is the star alliance lounge at LAX but it’s for that big carriers who fly into LAX and I see why the service hasn’t been paired back as those airlines aren’t cutting as much as the US carriers. The onboard and lounge products are just not up to par with those airlines. Covid has made it worst and they blame the virus for the further cuts, while other airlines are scaling back up. Hopefully with European passengers coming back the JFK, Chicago lounges and dinning services will get back to pre-covid levels.

I don't know breakfast wasn't offered because it always was when I flew these trips. Of course, I've been retired for a few years. Anyway, thanks for flying with us.

@@dr.donchristie7093 Hi, just randomly making comments. I sort of knew about it, but my first visit to Honolulu included making a visit to the crater, and I sort of had the same realization... except I sort of did know of course that the Hawaiian islands were all formed by volcanos. On the main island (Hawaii itself) it's really incredible how the landscape changes vis-a-vi the lava flows. Those are not at all active, but you can see how the island changes when you drive around the perimeter, as much as you are able. My favorite to visit was Kauai, though I only went there 3 times. They have the 'Grand Canyon' of the Pacific. Look that up, if you don't know it. It was beautiful. Go there if you have not done so, choose any island. You will enjoy it. I was so lucky. God, I love the Polaris cabin. Our return flight was a red eye and there was nothing better than having some Chicken Katsu dinner and then reclining the seat into a bed and getting some good sleep. I love United and flew them a lot for work and the cabin crew do such a good job. I gladly paid the fee for a more private experience while we waited, enjoyed some scotch, and kind of weak meals - but we were just happy to have a safe space before we flew home and quarantined ourselves for 2 full weeks. This is the only video that I’ve seen involving aviation and Hawaii. Everything else on your channel is some other part of the world. It was very nice to see pictures of home. Thank you. Local people would have looked out the other side of the building at the green Koolau mountains. That’s a pretty view. There should be an option for first class. I limit it because the crew won’t have enough time to clear up after serving a meal. Customers should be reminded by their travel agents to bring something to eat.

I was in the same airport and lounge 3 days after you. First time at Honolulu airport and I loved it

They definitely should offer a breakfast on such a long flight. Doesn’t need to be fancy. Also, lounge access for business class - little cost and great benefit.

I agree, they should most definitely have a second meal, because it IS a really long flight

the easterly climb out of HNL is always awesome. The pilot mustve known you were onboard so they turned on channel 9! Never flew United so I've never heard of that.. I wish all major airlines did that

Great report I love Honolulu (but who doesn't)I think it was 2010 when US Airways flew CLT/HNL on the 767200 but the service didn't last too long GoodTimes!

Southwest doing interisland flights is a HUGE breath of fresh air. Hawaiian has been price-gouging us ever since Aloha went belly up, so a little bit of competition by WN is very much welcome.

Jeb, I must say your reactions to Honolulu are respectful, I got to say this date was in the middle of the Pandemic so no apologies are needed. Hawaii is OPEN now.

Absolutely breakfast on a 9 hour flight. If you had an evening flight to Europe you'd have dinner and breakfast before landing. How much would it cost to offer a plate of fruit and a pastry? Great video review. Thanks!

Never realized how lucky I was until I saw this video- the only time I visited hawaii, on southwest, just by chance I got to see Oahu from my seat out the right side of the plane on landing and then on the left side taking off. Had no idea!

I agree with your complaint about a second meal on these domestic long haul flights. Recently, I flew on United’s new service from Maui to Newark and everything was great, especially the new Polaris cabin on the 767s. When I woke up the next morning, I asked the flight attendant about breakfast and she said that they were not serving breakfast on that route. I really hope in the future that United does this from all their flights that fly to Hawaii.

you mention the complexity of route development. i would LOVE to see a video on that!

Hey Jeb! We must have crossed paths... I went to HNL via Delta on the 10th. I went to the North shore for a week, then back to Waikiki for another week. It was so wonderful. I just love Hawaii... I would have loved to see you and Suzanne. ALOHA.

Absolutely they should serve at least a light breakfast on a 9 hour flight. This is something I've always had issues with on this "domestic" 9 hour flight!
