Jason Lawson oh cool, So what’s the recommended EC for a pumpkin plant? He’s literally only using an n-p-k and cal/mag for his feedings in a dwc. Why would you read ppm when it’s literally on the bags and you can convert using Avogadro’s number, I’m sure he knows the water value as well.For a pumpkin plant in the most rudimentary of dwc. (this isn’t a high value crop like cannabis; unless your in a commercial setup, which he isn’t; those readers would be a massive waste of time and money) I don’t see how this isn’t an “advanced approach” I would love to send anyone out there who would critique this with the exact same products to work with, outside with a bucket of water, an air stone, a couple bags of generic n-p-k fertilizers and some cal/mag and a book to refresh your mind, I bet none of you return with a living plant. This is plain and simple inputs and the fact that he grew fruits shows he knows something(now add the “advanced approach” and you’re really cooking with gas.)Just because you have been circling the forums for awhile now; doesn’t make you an expert. It just makes your comment seem pretentious and unfounded. I appreciate the enthusiasm and your exploration of plant efficacy, but you’re pointing the wrong gun. This setup would be an amazing learning experience for a lot of new growers and even older growers could learn from there mistakes if they would go back to the basics such as this and then lean into “advancing” their environment from that initial starting point putting your grow knowledge and yield into the next tier.

This is cool. My step dad (grew up a farmer in MN) who now lives in a retirement trailer park in AZ grows squash all year long. Have you ever tried Hydrogen Peroxide diluted and sprayed on mildew after it's taken over? Been seeing how well it works after the attack starts.

I understand that you want to keep things as cheap and simple as possible, I get it, that's how I was when I first started gardening. The thing you have to consider when growing outdoors, in nature, is that nature is NOT simple, its quite complex. So if you leave any voids or any "weaknesses" in your method, nature will find a way to take advantage of that and typically at your and your plants expense. Spend a few bucks and either make your own organic pesticide (or buy Method 1 PPS) and fungicide (or buy Companion) and you'll see a HUGE difference in your plants health and yields, TRUST ME!

Why do you avoid foliar spraying so adamantly and what do you mean by, "The cost is usually too high"? When done properly, with the right products/ingredients, foliar spraying is one of the most practical, economical and effective tool's in a gardeners arsenal (especially when foliar spraying compost tea, specifically AACT). You see, in nature, plants get naturally "foliar sprayed" almost every day by the morning due (there's a lot more to this than you might think), and by the rain. There are several different reasons to foliar spray and each have their own benefits. You can (and absolutely should) foliar spray a quality organic pesticide & fungicide weekly or bi-weekly (weekly during the veg stage), as a preventative measure against pests, fungal and disease infestation. I'm pretty sure I've seen bugs/pests, fungus and diseases causing you problems during almost every outdoor grow that's you shared, even some of your indoor grows have had these problems. So tell me, which do you consider to be more "Costly"? Having pests, fungus & disease ravage your plants, slowing their growth, causing them harm and significantly reducing their production/yields. Or spending a few bucks making your own organic pesticide/fungicide (or buy Method 1 PPS & Companion Biological Fungicide), and foliar spray with it weekly or bi-weekly and rarely or ever have a pest, fungal or disease problem to begin with? Take your hydroponic pumpkin plant for instance. How much time, nutrients and energy did you invest into that plant? Then consider how much it produced, ONE SINGLE PUMPKIN! If you had just implemented a simple foliar regimen, using the products I suggested, I guarantee the results/yield would have been SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER! Another reason to foliar spray is called, "Foliar Feeding", where you spray the plants with a mild nutrient solution (one that's specifically intended for foliar feeding, like Organic AG Products Pure Protein Fish Hydrolysate, which is loaded with bio-available nitrogen and super beneficial L-Amino Acids) and the plants are literally able to absorb the nutrients directly through pours in their leaves, which allows them to utilize these nutrients almost instantly. In regards to ORGANIC GROWING, the single best thing you can foliar spray your plants with is AACT's (Actively Aerated Compost Tea), especially a high quality compost tea, like Boogie Brew Heavy Harvest 2-Part Compost Tea (best All-in-One Compost Tea on the market, PERIOD!) or a DIY compost tea recipe (like Boogie Brew's Open Source recipe on their website). Foliar spraying (as well as soil drenching) quality AACT's weekly, bi-weekly or monthly is one of the single best inputs you can provide your plants. Please understand that everything I talk about or recommend I have learned from years of extensive research, trial and error. I learned this stuff from the most esteemed and credited soil biologists, botanists and horticulture experts in the world. We are still just scratching surface on our understanding of plants & soil biology, we still know next to nothing compared to the totality of information that exists and what's really going on in the soil beneath our feet. With that said, what I have learned and what I share/recommend ABSOLUTELY WORKS!

However I found his comment useful since I completely abandonned food gardening after Two years of complete losses. I think this is a great approach! A lot of others are all to deep into specifics, PH this and that to even get started with a little plant. This is the way to go, and if it is fun anyone can keep on digging into the world of information. But start with just one plant.
