You can use ATF oil mixed with white spirit to wipe out the bores, works super..

The band style ring compressor is a great teaching tool. It teaches you how to break rings if you're not careful, and it teaches you to go online and buy a better tool. I still have mine, but it's more of a sentimental attachment......it was my first. 😍😍

I love your videos and how you deliver the content. You always tell it like it is. I really like that. I have a ‘72 Chevelle that has a stock 307 in it. I want to do something with the engine without breaking the bank. If the block is in good condition, should I use it or should I build something using a 350 block? I want some decent power, like maybe 300 or so horsepower and be very drivable on the street. This was my first car. I am now 56 years old. Again, love what you do. I have learned so much. Thank you.

If you can pick up a decant 350 block, you can use the 307 crankshaft and rods in it and you will have a 327 the 307 and 327 share the same crank and rods you will need to buy a 327 rebuild kit with pistons but it's pretty easy to build and you could definitely 300 HP and probably more that would be a really nice engine

Read the whole comment: You need to do a video on timing. But, NOT the initial, total and advance timing. Setting up the timing for initial firing of the engine after build. Most folks know how to set timing, but, a lot of guys don't know how to set up the timing so that the motor just fires right up without cranking, and cranking, and cranking to try and get the distributor turned so that it finally fires. And how much should it be advanced to crank and run properly? Thanks in advance, Jim

@@Myvintageiron7512 Brother, I understand this video 100%. What I'm referring too is after you install the distributor in the motor, how do you set the timing the very first time so that you know the engine will fire perfectly without cranking the engine over and over before you finally get it to fire. Thanks again, Jim

On forged pistons what piston to bore clearance do you recommend ?
@Myvintageiron7512
@Myvintageiron7512 Жыл бұрын
it depends on the piston those specs will come from the piston manufacturer it can vary greatly from brand to brand

How to you handle inadequete rod side clearance? A few of mine have little to no movement and seems like it's binding up. If I slightly loosen the bolts I get some side movement back?

Apologies for being off topic but I have a GMC E351 V-6 (very similar to v6 305). Compression is 60 psi in each of the six cylinders thus it appears I need a rebuild. I have watched your GMC 305 V6 rebuild. Do you have a parts list and source you could share with me?

Unfortunately, all the sources I had, have dried up, surprisingly Orleys had some parts for it but again getting parts for these is very tough

Hello my good sir i was wondering what you would recommend . I have a 97 5.7 l31 vortec motor and wanna turbo it and swap it into an el camino is there a good recipe for a turbo build like that ? All i keep finding is 383 and or 454 stuff and as youd assume a whole lotta LS stuff but no l31. Has no one thought of a turbo l31 before?
