Now that I'm old, the first thing I reach for when I get to a tight nut or bold is the torch then I hit it with oil when it's still red hot. But I don't think you can strip out a square socket if the tool fits. LOVING these videos.

Lol The extraction tool was just what I was getting ready to post, when you said that is what you bought. That's funny You just gave me an idea. Next time I pull an engine, knock out the freeze plugs before mounting on engine stand.

Dude you are hilarious. "Gently" put it down. Good thing you weren't live. A bunch of times I was yelling at you not to do or do something. "Drill thingy", that just general terminology. Great video. Oh, love the doc Hudson mug.

Haha! Thanks. Not always perfect, but getting it done 👍

Any chance leaking rear freeze plugs can leak coolant into oil? Tyx

Hi i got questions i have 2001 jeep xj what size freeze plug would i put thanks
@hikerJohn4 жыл бұрын
My dad taught me to take freeze plugs out with a screwdriver. You punch a whole in them and then pry them out. I guess that's sorta what you were trying to do. Plugs did not use to last that long in the olden days before we started using good coolants. I guess it was electrolytic Degradation that ate them up.

I have a 91 Cherokee limited straight 6 4.0L I have the 5 Plugs on the side of the engine block are there any other ones that can be affected by the coolant ? When I look up the kit online I see the five large brass and two small brass where Would the two smaller ones go

Your videos have been the BEST I have seen yet on KZbin! I am preparing to rebuild a 1981 258 and am learning so much here! One question, on the intake side of the block toward the front and about halfway down is what looks like a vent. Do you have any idea what this may be? I have most parts figured out but this one buffalos me. Thanks so much!!

What’s the purpose of those plugs and why should they be replaced? Thanks for your efforts!
@JeepSolid5 жыл бұрын
They are used in the casting of the block. They can corrode and leak over time.

You could have got some square key stock may have worked for the square plugs then went to the extractor but nice video.

Thanks! I was looking for a square set, but couldn't find one at the store I was at. So just picked up the extractor set. Ended up working well.

@Equinox8665 жыл бұрын
Did you put the block on a scale to find the actual weight?

Get a clapped out 3/8 extension and shave it down with a grinder.

I thought about that. Was afraid I'd just break it or strip it out..
