Thank you so much for this video, helped me big time! I just completed my 2000 jeep Cherokee sport 4x4. I took my time. Breaker bar is crucial, my wrench happened to be a 12mm & I did use separate the T60 as you suggested. I’m a subscriber now

used these techniques and worked good ! i have the adapter off right now, my large o ring was flat.. previous owners had added some sort of sealer goop to it instead of replacing the o rings lol

One just simpler, I pulled the locator pin out and put the filter nipple in the block. Used a smaller filter, Napa 1348 or Wix 51348. That way each time I change the oil I get a new gasket, and the smaller filter is easier to get out. You do get a little oil down the block, but just wipe and go.

Red locktight is what you need to reassemble this. Blue locktight will have you doing this over when it leaks again.

Just want to say that I went to do my oil filter adapter and mine is not a 60 torx it is a 14 mm hex head bolt. Was a bitch to get out as there is no room. I got socket with a 14 mm and put my ratchet on it ( which I barely had room for) and got a pipe and used it to brake the bolt free than used a pair of slip joint pliers to get it unscrewed. Tomorrow (10/30/16) I put it back together. I hope it goes well.

Hey Ronnie your videos are quite informing. I am new to the jeep world and recently purchased a 2000 xj. I am disabled and could use any tricks or help to get my Jeep where I want it. For starters, it already has the wrong wheels on it. Someone put 17" Rubicon wheels on it and they are doing damage more than good. I need some 15" wheels and tires. I am doing a 3" lift if possible. So i have to change shocks or anything else. I was able to get leaf springs and coil springs. I don't have any u bolts. Can in use the ones I have or will I need longer ones. And what about shocks.. Trying to keep it a daily driver as well as having a little fun..

FML I replaced sooo much on my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee and never bothered to check where it's leaking from until today. that'll take me 2 hour at most... and has been leaking for 5+ years. I always joke with people who tell me to get a new car that I could total my jeep, walk into auto zone and get almost anything replaced for free because of all the lifetime warranties I have on my jeep. sensor's, shocks, tie rod, tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints, U-Joints, lower control arms "front and back", fuel pump, power steering pump and probably 2x more that I listed.. My jeep is soo badly welded too a lower control arm bracket snapped off and transmission cross member "support bracket" almost fell off. My jeep is almost 24 years old and the thing to kill it is gunna be it's frame

I just got the o rings direct from the dealer.. re installed them all.. I got the adapter seated back to the block very tight with a 3 ft bar and a 12 mm wrench... Started it up and have new oil spewing all over.. 2 of the 3 rings did not look big enough to me.. time to tear it all apart. What a pain in the ass.. not sure what could be wrong

They should really recall this issue I have had 3 jeeps and all three had same issue and it destroys the starters.
@JeffDeWitt6 жыл бұрын
Really? I've had mine for 20 years and think I've put three starters on it. This leak has been going on for quite some time (as in years) and I need to take care of it).
@johndoe-zq1js6 жыл бұрын
yepper oil does not conduct electricity which causes bad connections. also a big factor is the amount of oil being dumped on the starter due to the leak determines how fast that starter burns up plus if some not so smart person really lay on the keep due to a failing starter it is going to burn up and catch the leak on fire and when you have a oil leak you generally have oil all over the engine compartment with any leak say valve cover and oil filter adapter together would most like total the jeep from fire.
@JeffDeWitt6 жыл бұрын
Hmm... well, my adapter has been leaking for quite some time, and that starter has been on at least since the engine was rebuilt about ten years ago. I'm also not so sure the oil not being conductive so much as the dirt it carries with it and the possibility of it burning a bit from the starter running as the engine is being started (carbon getting on the armature).
@coupesix5 жыл бұрын
Or just take an hour and fix it once in awhile lol. I just did mine and it was pretty easy except the red loctite did suck but other than that it was too easy.
@Lilmiket10004 жыл бұрын
The factory must of been incompetent lol. They all have the exact same leaks. Mine does too. This adapter, valve cover gasket, power steering hose, and rear main seal.

Well I didn't use any in the end, cheers for the video, did this today and it really helped me out...I have a right hand drive, xj as I'm in the southern hemi and I must say, because our A/C is on the opposite side of the engine bay, its really easy to get at from the top. I was DREADING this, but a couple pushes from the top and viola...I suspect its been done before though.

@rockkkhound7 жыл бұрын
I love my Cherokee..but I will say..I would like to slap the moron that designed this set up... That kit I got from the dealer sucks.. I am going to re installed it one more time..but that big o ring that seats against the block is not going to stop the pressure in that motor.. it is not big enough . And it will flatten out quick even if it does. What a piss poor design.
@cherokeeronnie7 жыл бұрын
+Rick Lafayette your right buddy go to a local shop get the same seal but way thicker it help me out
@rockkkhound7 жыл бұрын
Well Ronnie .. I went to the dealership like you said. the tolerance between those two surfaces.. and then the thickness of that o ring does not work. pissed me off when I started the jeep and brand new oil was blowing all over the place. I should have trusted my gut.. and got a bigger one to begin with. and the fact that there is no shiplap type race between the block and where that adapter meet.. flat surface to flat surface doesn't work too good... is a hokey set up.. along with the whole design in general. I will be calling the dealer tomorrow.. 25 bucks for those 3 o rings.. smh.. Chrysler can cram it.
