Hi, Ive' had my Grand Cherokee Laredo 2001 since begging.. 145K miles. Done most of my own work on it.. Hasn't been to problematic. But living in Texas, not long ago the radiator cracked and leaked out all fluid(replaced it 8 years ago). Got it home, but it heated up past temp max. Was receiving code P0307 - Missfire on Cylinder 7. Did some troubleshooting and swapped spark coil 1 w #7 and it moved to #1. So replaced Ignition Coil. All good? No more codes and replaced 4 sparks on right side of V8. But now it Idles bad and while driving doesn't sound/ feel right. Almost like a missfire.. It's noticeable right away to me, because I had it for years. At first thought it was a misfire or a piston not firing, But now think It might be fuel related. Will check fuel pressure and replace Fuel Filter(Fuel Pressure Regulator) JGC 2001 has them both in one. No engine codes. It starts and ides for 4-5 min roughly.. t hen eventually goes idle high then low and dies. Using Torque App on Android and OBDII.I think I successfully loaded all GCJ PID codes. Nothing red comes up on real time data. So far; replaced 4 sparks on right side and checked spark. Replaced Ignition coil #7 (solved Code), Cleaned IAC valve, Checked Fuel injector current on 1,3,5,7 (bulb lights). Still need to swap Radiator.(Delivered in 3days) Any suggestions? Tanx

Can u put a pcm from any model or does it have to be exact same like year and motor size
@tv10morehead
@tv10morehead Жыл бұрын
IF it cranks without starting on some models it could be the 10amp PCM/ECM fuse under the hood has a hairline break that is hard to see, that can happen if you jump a low / dead battery, so swap that fuse. ALSO if like me you get a spare dumb key for the door and you put it in to start the Jeep or the wife does, it does the same sort of thing. & The Keyfob even works to lock and unlock doors but it acts like the keys were 'deleted', after 1999 the error code Pxxxx comes up for the skim communication, but it still can just be that 10amp little red fuse by the battery, since he does not mention it , check that first with a bright light or just swap it. & I'm rootin for you hope that's it.

I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee 4.7 V8 and usually it is after it is warm, at start up it will do a coughing like stall out.. eventually it will start with a carbon like gas smell it has been doing this for some time now like (3 years) but previously very very rarely it would chug going up the hill leaving my house with engine light blinking i would stop shut off and restart and things would be fine (not sure if it is associated).. only for about 4 months it had done the warm start stall thing.. so with my limited funds, alot of forums and KZbin videos i read to change my crankshaft position sensor.. easy right?? NOT!! 18 hours later with my own lubricant mixture (even parts of acetone and atf) I loosened the horribly placed part (without breaking it) enough to get it out.. same symptoms started again (problem not fixed) upon replacing sensor i noticed a slight leak behind the harmonic balancer (not sure of this has anything to with it plan on replacing that after stall prob is fixed) and the balancer has a slight wobble.. yesterday i changed my oil and it was at about 4,000 miles and it smelled like gas (again not sure if it has anything to do with said problem)... engine code p0300 displays with key check. Sooo my question i guess is where the hell do i start or is there a common prob in my model? Every video and forum has a list of things that it could be.. I am a self taught diy fix it gal i have repaired my break booster, changed a fuel pump in a dodge 1500, diagnosed other sensor prob, changed coolant housing tube things on a relatives vehicle, and various other things all with you tube and some research (just so u understand my determination to fix this myself) also my jeep aka betsy has 180,000 miles on her.. any advise is appreciated..

@movingupautodiagnostics8645
@movingupautodiagnostics8645 6 жыл бұрын
New Level Auto It was held high, 7.4v
@NewLevelAuto
@NewLevelAuto 6 жыл бұрын
+Moving Up Diy so how many sensors have you ever heard of that hold a voltage high or become shorted to voltage . Only one that would come to mind for me is the o2 sensors. So I just use the logic that for it to be held high I want to look for something that has the ability to bleed voltage like a failed drop down resistor . We know where those are mainly found Right? Ecm/pcm so it makes for a faster logical approach. Notice that the asd did not need to be turned on in order to see th high line voltage as well? Again that makes me think more along the lines of a module failure

Instead of s pop tent, (which are big and unwieldy, heavy, and take up lots of room.) would you consider a beach type, or patio table type collapsible umbrella? Except for the length, they collapse into a relatively small package! You ca fashion a base(maybe even if you know a welder) to be easily moved, yet add some extra weight for stability in a storm (to an extent). Most have a locking joint, to change the angle at will. It would be great for a rain that is not associated with dangerous, windy conditions. Can be set up in the hinge area, of an open door, to protect the vehicle. Can be positioned almost anywhere around a vehicle for a quick sun shade. You can use 4x4x16 solid concrete blocks for weight. You can use sandbags. You can use junk parts around the shop. Basically, a steel plate, say 2x3ft (to hold a weight), or so, with a piece of pipe welded on it. Use extra pipe for height adjustment. A screwdriver thru a drilled hole to hold it from blowing out. It wouldn't be too expensive. So, easily replaceable if damaged, worn out, lost, stolen, or what have ya! If you have to spend more than a few minutes on a job, and there is some unfriendly conditions, certainly it's not a closed off shop, but better than nothing!!
@NewLevelAuto
@NewLevelAuto 6 жыл бұрын
+roadkill5333 the most pain in the butt part of all that is the amount of space it would kill in the van. Here in the city having a larger vehicle is a huge nuisance due to parking. My van is smaller but also more discreet to allow the shops to keep a customers faith. If I drive into their shop with a big bannered up truck the customers begin to look for something better than the shop they're at. All if your ideas were terrific but slightly impractical for the space I have available currently 😔
@roadkill5333
@roadkill5333 6 жыл бұрын
New Level Auto I knew the length would be an issue. Do you have room on top for a pipe carrier? A 6 or 8inch p.v.c. pipe would easily carry the umbrella, and a pieces of extender! Being in New York City, it may be a challenge to keep it!! Unless you put hazardous waste stickers on it, and smeared a lil dog poop on it, every once in a while!

New Level Auto I was an" Interstate Commercial Freight Transportation Engineer", (a.k.a. Truck Driver) for over 12 years!! I swore I'd never set foot out there again. Was I ever wrong! I had a load to deliver to some small newspaper company, in the middle of a neighborhood, that had never heard of a big road truck. My appt time was 6am (5am central) and I was unloaded early, and told to leave! No parking room for me! I made it to the Lombardi service plaza, just in time for my bosses to get to come in and dispatch me to Yonkers, for a sugar load!! Oh well! I couldn't think of a better way to waste an hour and a half, than to be sitting in traffic on the G.W. bridge, during rush hour in the morning! I told the next company that my address was N.Y, NY. AND I WANTED TO BE HOME EVERY WEEKEND!! I never went back!!!!!!

Let me just say WOW. I am dazzled. Understand about 25%. But that's up from 2% when I first started watching Danner. I am starting to comprehend that these modules all communicate in square waves to each other. And your getting in on that talk. I c Ivan has a newer Verus with Bluetooth. As the center of the scanner universe, would u have anything to do with that? Does he get to use the DRB?
@for2utube
@for2utube 6 жыл бұрын
Bill Rimmer Square waves? They communicate with digital signals. Most of the time he doesn't care to decode what they are saying, he's concentrating on whether modules can actually talk to each other. He implies that once they can talk they'll talk just like they did when the car was new. He doesn't need to care what they are saying so the pico scope is good for making sure the pipes are not all clogged up. He looks at the top. No response? Let's look at the bottom then. There is a middle, but that's of concern to designers, not field techs (sorry, he's doing a lot more than a field tech, but he's not designing a bus.)

I respect your skills so I would like an honest answer. What's the problem with the load probe,thank you.
@NewLevelAuto
@NewLevelAuto 6 жыл бұрын
Joe Laplnski simply put its the unplugging of a loaded circuit to test when the intended load is already on the vehicle. There is a time and a place for any tool , but testing can be done so easily without the load pro that I would never feel a need to use one. Nor would I suggest anyone invest there money in one.

maybe the problem with the PCMs is a venting problem causing moisture to build up in side the unit?

THE "ACTUAL" SOLUTION:" On my 2000, the problem exists within the SKIM immobilizer. Remove the steering column cover by removing the single screw that holds the bottom portion on, then separate the two halves. Thereafter, unscrew the immobilizer upon removing the wiring connection, and carefully remove the round portion that goes around the ignition key tumbler. Carefully separate the two halves of the immobilizer and you'll see two relatively large solder points. They attach the wire that runs within and around the key tumbler. If you look closely, possibly using a magnifying glass, you'll see hairline cracks in the solder. If so, re-flow the old solder with some new solder and reinstall. Then, look at the lower half of your steering column cover. See that long boss that the screw you removed runs in? Take a Dremel and remove half of it long ways, leaving the half that isn't slamming into your immobilizer every time you tilt your steering down (Courtesy of Chrysler). Oh, and if you tilt the steering down, further hold it there, and the car starts when you turn your key, then this is likely your problem. I ran my car that way for years before figuring this out... cheers!

Not in this case . It was indeed a failed PCM as shown at the end of video . But thanks for the input

Hi Keith! So basically you were checking your wiring on that proprietary circuit (SCI, a Jeep thing?) to the PCM to verify that there were no wiring issues. Since your wiring tested good, you were able to condemn the PCM? So in essence, the PCM output (to the instrument cluster to disable the security feature) was non-existent? Let Me know if I am summarizing it properly, ok? Thanks.
@NewLevelAuto
@NewLevelAuto 6 жыл бұрын
+lee ann in this case the failure is of the PCI bus line . The SCI line is used separately and only deals with the pcm to data link connector. The second line (problem line) is the one that connects the pcm to every other module on the vehicle. Since it is required for one module to talk to another , the immobilizer module aka Skim could not verify the start authorization with the pcm to allow the vehicle to run. Let me know if that was clear enough. I know others will learn from that question as well

Get a Actron CP9680 code tester. It checks live, record, graphing, transmission tests, emission readiness test, ABS, SRS, and MORE! Get 4 aaa batteries for under the rear cover. It has code-connect to diagnose codes. Get a wall-charger for a Tom Tom One GPS to read test results in your home. Get a cigarette-lighter cable for a Tom Tom One to review results in the car. Get a USB cable to update it. EBAY has it.

I've had the problem multiple times I guarantee if you check the ground wire in the driver side door harness you'll find the wire is broken which will not communicate to the cluster it may also control your power windows and your overhead temperature and direction of travel sometimes it would start with the door closed most of the time it would not start with the door open cuz the wire was not connecting and a Telltale sign would be if the door courtesy light was not on with the door open it would tell me that that alarm wire in the door was not connecting let me know how you make out
