People give the 4.7 crap but I’ve had two of them and I actually maintained them and I think they’re probably one of the best motors built from that era of vehicles.

I have a 2002 JGC. Bone stock almost 300000 miles on it. Still running threw mud with no problem no oil leaks

The 4.7 is a solid engine! I've had 6 WJ's and all had the 4.7 and not 1 issue. Heck I even fixed one the last 4.7 I got, it was the H.O. and had a broken valve spring, that was a pain but I fixed it and it ran really good. It got new plugs, coil packs, o2 (all 4), 12 hole injectors... It would bark all 4 tires leaving the light. Just take care of them and they'll take care of you.

My 4.7in my 2001is a real good powerful weight to ratio powered jeep 300hp is good n have tuned it n air box open it gets it better than my 09 5.3z71outts the hole anyhow I love my jeep best investment ever made on vehicle for over two yrs now love it jeep 4.7runs better than any stock 5.2or5.9jeeps I've drove love them all

Im about to get mine 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 4.7 v8 with only 120 miles on it my nanny bought it brand new back in 01 an never drove it I got my 2 fav cars now that jeep an my 96 thunderbird

I have the 4.0 with the Quadra drive. Doesn’t sound near as good but it hasn’t failed me yet

I've had several Grand Cherokees both 4 litre and 4.7 and the 4 litres are a great car too. Better than the V8 in some ways ( economy being one )

The Quadra drive 4x4 system in the 4.7 go so much better then the selc-trac in the 4.0 but the Quadra drive system is ridiculously expensive to lift to accommodate a good size tire

@@Johnkent1965 Compared to other engines from the same era, the 4.7 is a solid engine. Not the best, not the worst. If you don't like the 3.1 diesel, maybe the 2.7 Mercedes diesel would be the way to go.

It looks like he has quadra-drive. It uses vari-lok differentials. They are similar to a LSD, a little better. Not a full-on locker though.
