Called around and it was 200+ for a fob and another 100+ for a transponder key. This video saved me a lot of searching. For how the transponder worked. Thank you! I did just end up buying fobs for a few bucks on amazon and only a single doorman kit. All in I’m 80 bucks for the doorman programmer, 2 fobs, 2 uncut keys, and I’ll do the same transponder zip tie method as you!

The easiest way I was able to unlock my jeep was with a pair of pliers. Use the pliers to take your antenna off. Get the tip of your antenna and shave a pointed end on the antenna. Bend the tip into a hook same as a fishing hook. Bend some curves in the antenna so it can reach the lock the pull up or push the lock button. It worked on most of my vehicles.

If you have 2 original keys you can program 4 new ones by using the onboard computer. The instructions are in the Jeep owners manual. Also, if placing the key on top of the SKIM module doesn't work you can make an induction coil using some fine wire.

So you don't have to remove the key from the fob at home depot. Any key cutter that you just insert the key into a machine will work with it in the fob

Hey Dan. I did this last summer for my 2.7 crd WJ/WG. But I rememoved chip from old key and there is a little space for it in new case, nearby of the rotation cener of case. I have the same key case as you. I did that from a spare part key I bought on UK ebay for a few £. Important is mhz value!!! For reprogramming fob I used wjdiagpro android app (developed primary for merc. crds costs around 20$) and simple obd scanner for 5$ also must be compatible!!! Just wanted to tell you that it can be done much more cheapest. Thanks for the vids. Good job

I got an extra transponder key made at my local Walmart, cut and skim programmed, as long as you have 1 key you're good. They cost $67 at Walmart with the cut and skim programming. All they did was put the old and the new key in the machine then 3 minutes later the new key is programmed. 01 WJ laredo.

I have an OBD2 Bluetooth adapter and I use an app called OBD JScan. It allows you to read and adjust a lot of parameters on the computer as well as program new keys. It's $23.99 per VIN but the price goes down the more licenses you buy at once. It may or may not work on older Jeeps. Either way it has a bunch of fantastic features. You can download and try the app, there is a demo mode so you can see what there is for all of the supported vehicles. I just checked but unfortunately the WJ is not supported but it could be someday.

As much as you love your WJs, you should just get a DRBIII and get the vehicle PIN from your local stealership service dept (free with proof of ownership). You may the program real transponder keys and new fobs, simple as pie.

I don’t know if this works with Jeeps since I only have one. With older Fords, you can cut a key for two vehicles. Our family had several in the past. Just cut the key on one side for each vehicle. You still have to worry about the chip and which side of the key starts the car you’re in but at least it’s one less key to carry

Great video! My Jeep never had a remote locking fob when I bought it used. Your video was the little push I needed to finally get one. I followed the link to the exact product you posted on Amazon and installed it with a small amount of trouble. I finally got it working, but the range is terrible! I literally have to stand right next to the passenger or driver side door for it to work. It would have been nice if it at least reached at the tailgate, what gives??

Hah, no i know why passenger side door is all misaligned, as for the key fob you just remove the chip from the old key and insert it on the flip key fob , it has a groove that the chip fits perfectly. !!

I watched it CAREFULLY. You got lucky with the coat hanger only. I couldn't get it to work for me. What DID WORK was the coat hanger AND my shoelace. After straightening the coathanger I tied the shoelace around the "twisty" end of the coathanger. Inserted the coathanger with shoelace and as I pushed the coathanger in and down I worked the shoelace towards the sideview mirror. When I got the coathanger on the "Unlock button" I Gently pulled on the shoelace toward the sideview mirror and popped the door open. PS: I DID NOT have any sort of "plastic clipboard"! Wrapped my Leatherman in a sock! I was a 1,000 miles from home and all I had was the coathanger and what I "normally" carry on me!

I tried this and can't get the fob to work in the new shell to save my life. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I've made sure the tab from the battery is making connection with the peanut and everything. All fobs worked before transferring over, and worked again when put back in the factory shell.

Dang.. its gotta be the battery contacts.. The biggest issues I had was trimming off all the excess rubber to get the two halves to close, and also making sure that battery contact stayed put while screwing it together.

What would "keyless entry" mean as it says in Amazon it is only for keyless entry jeeps? I know that usually means that you don't need to use the key to enter you just have to have it close to the jeep, but I haven't seen any WJs with buttons that unlock it, even the one from the video has no button on the door, or at least I didn't see it. Mine is a 98 with the same key fob and I want to know if it would work.

Keyless entry means you can unlock it with a Fob and you wont have to put the key in the door

You can add skim yo your vehicle, you would need to buy a SKIM module sensor with matching keys and have your PCM flashed to enable that function.
