Long shot, but did you have to reprogram you system for the jeep to run right, or do just have a check engine light on for it?

That will work too and since you will still have the electrical components you probably won't get a check engine light

I do have it but don't know about the pistons. I've never had the head off.

Im just really trying to understand this engine... mine has a terrible engine issue.... has annengine performance issue as if the thing is injecting fuel in multiple cylinders at the same time. It knocks it belches sooty black smoke no power... Ive thrown glow plugs, injectors, ecm,fuel filter head, and Im about to throw a cmps and a Ckps at it... I want to get it running proper before I do an egr Delete on it... the vehicle was purchased new may 2005 all service was dealer perfomed. The vehicle has exactly 112000 miles on it... if the cam and crank sensors do not straighten this engine out my look at the lifter/rocker assy next. It was running fine till it got an intermittent run like crap knocking thing going on.... this came and went 3 times prior to the day it stayed.... momentarily did it for a few seconds to a minute then ran fine.... the only other strange anomoly that occurred was 4 months prior I had a temp sense indicate hot engine for about 10 minutes with no hot engine occurring at all... Im am not sure what to say about this and my dealer is useless on information

I "think" this. Carbon deposits inside the intake runner blocking air flow and worn rocker arms aka followers. But yes. The dealership has probably long ago dismissed this engine.

@@RolandCaston they just cant seem to diagnose anything... Im changing the cam position sensor then next was gonna go with the cam lifters rocker assy. Cant believe though thar the intermittent knocking and sooty misfiring like off time would be cuased by worn rocker lifter assy ID parts has the Rocker lifter assy and gaskets and bolt sets for it... thought about getting a crate duramax 2.8L and dropping it in

@@RolandCaston the more and more I think about it the more I think a hydraulic lifter on the Rocker arms failed... becuase of the off and on issue leading up to it. One leaks oil pressure they all collapse... that would cuase all the valves to close and open in very short duration cuasing low power and extremely rich fuel to air mixture let alone improper amount of air taken in and exhaust expelled... that would make it knock and blow soot
