Rory, don't say sorry for putting your job, your safety and customers safety before filming. It was a "short" recovery YT-wise, but it took you hours. And I think it's important to "see" the not so "sunny" side of recovery business. Thank you for sharing.

When I take a novice rock crawling, I challenge them to drive up a ramp until they feel like they are about to roll. Usually they stop when they lift a tire. I then inch them further until they are convinced it’s going over and resist. A this point I lift that tire and rock their vehicle with my body weight. After they feel how truly stable they are, even at full starfish grabbing the seat lean, they become much more comfortable wheeling off camber and can take more challenging lines.

You are absolutely correct about Highway 13 between Rifle and Meeker! I once watched a bull elk get hit by a semi truck. It killed the elk and severely damaged the front end of the semi truck. I couldn't understand why the truck was so damaged, until I got close and saw the elk. It was massive, in the dark it looked like a camel in size! Definitely a crazy road and a crazy place full of beauty and awe.

Just saw the part of the video of you getting the hunters chained up and on the way out. Saw you roll your shoulders and neck. Working long hours, bitter cold, throwing 2 sets of iron.... hey brother, I know exactly how you feel. That pain and tightness right between your shoulder blades up through your neck, looking forward to along hot shower and a shot of your favorite single malt.... only to sleep in your truck! You are definitely an old school warrior. Nothing fake or soy boy bout you. Made me smile remembering all the times I've had to do the same. On behalf of all those you have recovered, THANK YOU!

I lived in Arizona for years and I love it there. I moved to Texas because of all the Californians moving in and making it New California. Now they're moving here in droves. Pretty sure all the trails around here will be getting closed down just like back home.
@johnchedsey13062 күн бұрын
People in the United States have every right to move to wherever they choose. Trails are still open here in Arizona. Blaming California for things is the laziest internet take ever.
@rickydonahue15862 күн бұрын
@johnchedsey1306 all the trails that I used to drive my truck on are closed to motorized vehicles. I lived just outside of Tucson in Picture Rocks. All the trails are closed except to foot traffic and there are very few of those open anymore. Don't presume to tell me what I know.

@davidhawthorne96372 күн бұрын
I say this as respectfully as I can. Trailmater (the truck) does things that most people would think are impossible and it does them with grace. Like no way he's getting that out without using 3 winches and 6 snatch blocks... Then he (rory) gets the truck out of the hole with just a traction board. Blows my mind! Great job trailmater and crew!
@canyonrunner3 күн бұрын
I appreciated Rory's comments at the end about the 4Runner guy afraid he would roll on his side. Rory quipped in a jesting but not in a derisory way that the guy still had 5-degrees more before executing a barrel roll. Seat time is the only way you can learn these things. Kudos to the client who recognized that his roof-top tent was not helping him in this situation. Need to keep the center of gravity (balance point or centroid) low and as centered as possible for normal off-road vehicles. (Trailmater's centroid is a bit 'forward' and for good reasons)
@johnchedsey13062 күн бұрын
I'm of the opinion that if you're worried about rolling and want to call for help, call for help. Always better to have recovery experts come in and make sure there's a good ending to the story.

The moving shadow of Trailmater on the canyon wall near the beginning of this video is very artistic and it reminds me of several years ago I photographed the shadow of myself on the west side of a tall tcornfiel as the sun was setting as I slowly rode my motorcycle home one day with my right hand on the throttle grip and my left hand holding my camera.
