Excellent video. Got my radiator out in record time. I do have to tell you that there's one more bolt!! My power steering cooler lines were bolted to the radiator! That was my only hang up. It's an 8mm bolt thru a rubber coated metal strap! Now of course the lower thermostat bolt snapped and I'm dealing with that headache 🤦🏼‍♂️ but thanks for the video it was very helpful!!

Thanks brother! Have an 02 GC LTD 4.7L and pretty much everything has gone out on her. I've used many KZbin vids to do repairs without problems. I WISH I watched your video 1st before doing this radiator job! I watched a couple other radiator removal videos first instead, which left A LOT of steps out, and ended up fighting with mine for THE most MISERABLE 6 hours ever AND STILL NOT DONE! I got so discouraged and contemplated giving in and having her towed to a shop. Your sequence and step by step is FANTASTIC! Gonna finish her up tomorrow. Thanks again man! 👍

I've done two of these now (and the job sucks)... both on different 2004 4.7l Grand Cherokees. In dealing with the hydraulic cooling fan 3 lines; I found it easier to loose the fitting on the 1) power-steering pump and for the other one on the power 2) steering box. That leaves only the spring clip hose on the 3) bottom of the hydraulic pump. I did blow off the seat point and shot a drip or two of PB on the threads several minutes before trying to break them loose. No issues getting them free and one of my WJ's is from N. Dakota and the other Wyoming, so not exactly grime free. As most of the videos say.... just be patient and don't get mad. All that will do is cost you money when you break something. Hope this strategy helps someone.

Glad to see that this process doesn't require disconnecting AC lines. I wanted to avoid that at all costs and I refused to believe it couldn't be avoided. I've been going over my WJ, getting heads rebuilt (new seats included), new water pump, oil pump, motor mounts and every gasket I encounter and I was hoping I would be able to relatively easily do the radiator at another time down the road if it wasn't too crazy, and I'll be going with those 2-row all aluminum rads when I do, in addition to an electric fan conversion and rid myself the misery of the hydraulic setup. Thanks for posting and I'm with you on your style; concise instructions and no extraneous BS, that is much appreciated brother.

Nice video. Just a couple of observations. If you buy a Denso radiator vs. a no-name, it will come with the M6 nut clips installed. Price is pretty close to the no-names and way cheaper than OEM. Surprising since Denso is an OEM provider. Instead of tape to mark hoses and tubes, use colored zip ties. They don't fall off when they get oily.

My only question is now that I have everything back together, What's the proper way of adding the coolant and power steering fluid
@DEInTheGarage
@DEInTheGarage 2 жыл бұрын
So happy to hear you found this method successful. The power steering is straight forward. Make sure you turn your wheels back and forth and get the fan running to purge all the air. Make sure after it purges you add be to the fill line and check for a few days. I have a bunch of videos on adding the coolant.. a whole playlist on 4.7 cooling stuff actually. It can be a bit tricky. If you are new to the 4.7 I suggest you poke around the videos there, but definitely watch “how to bleed a radiator” as the 4.7 is unique kzbin.info/aero/PLqf45HdWbhsfYmq7YlURKHAux3AIQojlJ

Dont know why but my fan shroud and fan are different. I have one large metal clutch fan and one smaller electric fan for a/c I believe. Now I need to replace just the clutch fan. I scored a new radiator from rockauto.com Good looking unit $116.52 to the house. I mixed gel superglue and baking soda to slow down the leak. My coolant was pretty green could have probably used a flush. I meant to by a serpentine belt to do it at the same time. I'll see if I can go back out after warming up. May do a flush before filling it. Do you ever use those coolant cleaners?

@@DEInTheGarage nice, looking forward to a video on that. I've read that people use the 4.0 P/S pump when they do the swap. I've thought about it for awhile on our 4.7 just worried the electric fan won't be able to keep it cool enough out on the trails

Certainly a reasonable concern. I suppose you could put a pusher fan on the other side of the radiator on a switch to use in an emergency

You should do a video on how to bleed the 4.7 cooling system. The 4.7 has a specific way to burp the system.

That is a good idea for a video.

I replaced my radiator on WJ 4.7L and did not bleed it. Bleed screw would not come off. I had no problem. Just completey fill the radiator till coolant comes out. If there is air in there it should come out the top.

It's simple folks you can either do it the easy way like what he says here or you do it the way a dealership mechanic like myself will do and we take apart the entire front fascia and everything around that area and you do not damage anything yes it does take longer but if you value your jeep like I do mine ( 1999 limited ) you will do the job correctly by taking your time and taking everything apart as a Chrysler mechanic would do it at a dealership .

One thing the powersteering cooler is on the right and the trans cooler is on left in front of the radiator. The line runs from the brass fitting overbthe left of upper radiator and attaches to bottom of trans cooler.99 wj 4.7 radiator ain't comming out unless that line is taken off

Well if your trans fluid starts leaking it’s cause you took your pliers to a rubber hose 😂

I had to stop watching when he decided not to remove the grill, it's only 2 bolts and it makes this job much easier...remove the grill people!
