Don’t mean to talkdown the video or anything like that but the way you put your pads in is the wrong way. But understandable since thats the way the older ones were. In fact you sort of noticed something odd about it. The way the old ones were in, they were pushing them onto the rotor. That odd looking bracket was meant to push them out instead. Putting the one the way it showed in this video will cause premature rotor wrapped. So the pads needs to be slide in from out into the bracket.

You're absolutely right. good catch... I noticed that after rewatching it🤦‍♂️. luckily after driving it for 20+k. it hasn't seemed to cause any issues with the rotors getting hot and warping. but it definitely should have.

Good catch, jfc723. I came to the comments specifically to see if anyone else noticed that. Good eye, good knowledge.

Believe me, the way the clips are designed there is NO play between the pads. This is the easiest way to put the pads in and on the rotor.

I'm changing the brakes on my 2016 Renegade this week and appreciate the reminder about the electric parking brake service mode... I am however quite surprised how torn up those rotors were at that milage. I am 88K miles and only now doing it's first brake service!

@christianrayford5802

Hey, thanks for sharing the video. A few questions, I noticed that when you were putting everything back together you flashed 26 ft lbs as a torque setting. Im assuming that setting was used for the smaller bolts when dealing directly with the caliper. Is that correct? According to the service manual its 26 ft lbs for Front and Rear brake caliper to caliper adapter bolts. And it's 42 ft lbs for Brake caliper adapter to knuckle bolts (rear only.) On the other hand maybe I missed it but I didn't see the torque setting for the other set of bolts you screwed into place. To summerize can you just confirm that if the first set of bolts you tightened (before the rest of the caliper was added) was torqued to 42 ft lbs or 26 ft lbs?

Just for future reference you can use the brake service by using the touch screen menu and that will wind the electric hand brake of. When you have done your service just press brake pedal and it will reset itself all done. 😀

Great video! Was wondering if any brake fluid should be removed before screwing back the rotor plunger?
@Simpsons.R.S
@Simpsons.R.S Жыл бұрын
technically a brake system is a closed system. so you really should never add any fluid.. if its low... you either have a leak.... or the pads/shoes are low and need looked at. what i do is take the lid off rhe reservoir and keep an eye on the level when i screw them back in. if its going to over flow then i would remove some.

I have a 2015 Renegade which I want to replace the rear B&R's on. Do you know if it's pretty much the same process to remove/reinstall?
@Simpsons.R.S
@Simpsons.R.S 2 жыл бұрын
I would say so.... but I'm not 100% sure on it. I would go into the the screen and make sure parking brake service is there and you're able to disable it. If you can then it's probably the same process.

Is it alright to switch off egnition on vechile whilst changing pads on rear disc . Then apply key for power will this disturb the electronic? Or do you leave power on whilst fitting pads and disc on rear. Thanks

That's a good question..... I left the power on just to be on the safe side.... as long as your battery is in good shape, you shouldn't have to worry about it dieing while you change out the pads.

Lazrhamr. Bleeding brakes when installing new pads is highly recommended. This service is often not done which leads to corrosion inside the brake system and slight loss of braking. Over time water is absorbed by the brake fluid. Brakes should be bled every 2 to 3 years.

haha actually its not bad. so 100% put the car into the service brake mode. once you have the brakes apart you can use the tool that i used in the video... they are dirt cheap. or a big screw driver... ive seen people use heavy duty needle nose pliers too. you just screw it back in. sometimes they screw im very easy.
