Eastcoastgearsupply is the way to go! I picked up a Ford 8.8 from them along with a drive shaft to go in my wife's 98 TJ. The best part about it was only had to drive about an hour to get it. Love your videos Man. You are my go-to guy when I want to learn something about a TJ.
@coalcrackeroffroadadventur78993 жыл бұрын
I built a few 8.8's for Tj;s what your doing is pretty much what I have built. My personal Jeep has and ARB but I have built one for a friend with the true track and it works just fine. we had it on a comp course and it was impressive. I thought it would unlock but it pulled the whole way up vertical walls and rear tire off the ground.

Good to see you being your old self again, swearing, cussing, telling it like it is with 4Wheel Parts. lol I did a rear disc conversion on my TJ about 10 years ago using Ford Exploder calipers, and rotors from someone but I can't remember all the details now, but they're still working good. Looking forward to seeing the axle get built and installed! Oh yea, funny thing on my set up is that I didn't need any kind of proportion valve. I run the fluid without any valving at all to the rear, and the rear wheels lock up just after the fronts lock up. I tested that on a dirt road; sped up to 60mph and hit the brakes hard, locking up the front then and rear. The TJ stopped straight as an arrow., it was fun doing that! Brakes fine on the pavement.

On my '98 Cherokee build, I went with Iron Rock Offroad for the 8.8 shock brackets and leaf perches. I too went with the SOLID diff cover and LubeLocker gasket. I can't really afford the truetrac so I got the Ford lsd and rebuilt it with new spiders and Ford racing carbon fiber clutch disks, worked out quite well.

I have the factory lsd now and did buy the Ford racing carbon disks but changed my mind last moment

@@BackCountryWrenching I think it's a good choice. I will definitely put one in place of the G80 in my Sierra 2500hd Duramax, well at least the AAM version. I plan to put a trutrac in the D30 on the front of the XJ in the future. My better half took over the jeep after I got my truck and the 8.8 setup has done great, it doesn't get thrown into mud and rocks, mainly just in snow for the winter. I've built it to handle some overland adventures if the time and opportunity comes my way, beefier front end, transgo shift kit, bilstein 5100 series, etc. My XJ was 2wd when I started, swapped all of the drivetrain from a '97 doner XJ and did a 3-3.5" lift with 31" ko2's. It's a great all around vehicle. I've been watching your channel for a few years, Jerry. You've been inspiring and helpful along my journey with that btw, and also entertaining. Too bad you don't live in northern Ohio, I could see a shit ton of help from each other on some projects and good mf'kn beer times, lol. Oh well, life goes on. Keep doing what you do brother, you do excellent work!

I stopped dealing 4 wheel parts. Sucks waiting for parts. Waited 3 months for 3 joints and 6 months for 1 joint from Rock krawler through NorthRidge. I’m sure covid had a little to do with it, But sucked with nothing but time and no parts! Lol. E-Mortal Customs in Calgary sells TMR products, and sometimes have certain parts in stock. Or will order. Delt with them a few times when it was a week or so from Tmr and next day from them as they had what I needed on the shelf. Probably heard of them, but incase not. They are local to you. Were great to deal with also.

Bought some of those Rock Jock johnny joints through Summit Racing to replace the complete JOKE of rod ends that came on the control arms of the Rough Country X-series 2.5 kit I have. While the control arms themselves are rather beefy, once I disassembled a failed rod end I quickly found out why it had failed. Basically just a plastic sleeve (looked like a damn tampon tool) and no actual means of support for the ball of the rod end. Thankfully the arms are a standard thread and the rod ends can be upgraded.

I think when the shop installed my Fox 2.0 struts up front on the 4Runner 2 weeks ago they let the hydraulic xreas fluid somehow leak into the brake calipers on one side. I go to the store this morning and I'm like WTF is that strange noise... off-rotation noise occurring like every 4th wheel spin. I figure seized caliper after recent snow and salt... It was grabbing but not enough to cause accident. I go home and take it apart. Paint peeling off outside of pads and inner part of pads covered in greasy slime caked with brake dust. So I cleaned all up... couldn't find any leaks, pistons seem fine after cleaned up... caliper is only 12,000 miles installed 7 months ago. Talk about a head scratcher... now I gotta keep a close eye on it. Need 2 more catalytic converters too... replaced the 2 mains and sensors that didn't fix shit. Shit show continues. And fuck 4WP they only have wheels in stock.

Can't wait to see this build. I agree 100% with you on build your vehicle for what you want to be able to do. People gave me crap because i traded off my Rubicon for a Sahara. To be honest I never used the lockers on trails. I built my Sahara with front and rear truetracs. I also did that on my '99 TJ. One of the best upgrades you can do.
@amolson85943 жыл бұрын
What’s your opinion on a decent off road tire for back country exploring in the Calgary area? Picking up a new JL Rubicon tomorrow from Tower Jeep and will add a 2” lift and some 35’s shortly. My first options are BFG ko2, BFG KM3 M/T or the Goodyear Duratrac. I’m not a mud guy so I’ll avoid it if I can when I’m out. More worried about rock punctures out here.

Hey Jerry, I used 8.8 brakes on my d44 swap. Flop shop has a nifty bracket to use jeep cables with 8.8 ebrake. Are you going 4link?
@Lonewlf76763 жыл бұрын
Question. I have seen others do disc brake swaps from drum. I have never seen anyone address any need for a different or adjustable brake proportioning valve. Do you not need one? Or does everybody just skip it?
@BackCountryWrenching3 жыл бұрын
That’s a very legit question that I haven’t got to the bottom of yet. I have considered getting a adjustable proportioning valve but I may try it with the current set up first and see what happens
