Good job! When it comes to hill climbs, and shallow slippery surfaces, you'll do well! The main problem is when you encounter anything that requires ground clearance, or wheel articulation.
@johannes.f.r.8 жыл бұрын
Davtopgun Yes, a Cayenne is usually all the car you need to get you pretty much anywhere, but if you want to go offroading for fun a Jeep is a better option, much cheaper and easier to prep and repair. But if you raise the suspension on the Cayenne too and gave it mud tires, like all those jeeps have, things are pretty much even, it has good approach and departure angles and the wheelbase is not too long.
@Davtopgun8 жыл бұрын
I agree that with some upgrades it could be more capable. Though independent suspension will never be even with solid axles when it comes to hard core off roading. Also, with independent suspension, you're very limited on how much ground clearance you can get while maintaining a reasonable alignment, and without binding your CV axles.
@johannes.f.r.8 жыл бұрын
Davtopgun Very true, plus you don't want expensive bodywork damage. These Cayennes are built to last though. I know someone who hardly used his on tarmac, mostly dirt roads, no real offroading, but it never had weird electronic failures or things besides normal shocks etc. wear out.

Zachary Abelardo The SRT isn't much less capable than the normal Grand Cherokee. Apart from a weaker approach and departure angle thanks to it's aggressively styled bumpers. it has air suspension and in its Off-road settings can lift itself right about as high as the normal Game Cherokee. It has low range and all the off roading essential. Throw on some all terrain tires and it'll match this Cayenne perfectly. Not even mentioning the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk that'll absolutely eat the Porsche
@dean80678 жыл бұрын
Zachary Abelardo And don't forget that you're comparing a most likely 10 year old Porsche with a brand new Grand Cherokee when it comes to the off roading. If you compare the most capable 2016 porsche Cayenne with the latest SRT, it'll be no match, the Cayenne won't even do a bad dirt road

@ohheyitspaul7 жыл бұрын
The winch has an engine that provides a ton of torque. You use the winch's engine to pull the vehicle and wind the cable back in. Using it to pull like a tow rope can bind up the cable and cause it to snap which can be deadly. A tow rope should have been used in this case, or the Porsche should have stayed stationary and let the winch do its job.
@BigChungusthe3rd7 жыл бұрын
Paul Wilson so in this case the winch was active in addition to the towing by the actively moving vehicle?

JK UNLIMITED RULES!! Y is it dangerous? It can snap and cut some one real bad???
@linden58508 жыл бұрын
I cringed when I saw that!!! Winch cables are not meant to be used as snatch straps. The cable is meant for a static load to be slowly pulled by the winch motor. Those cables, even when used properly with some sort of cable weight in the middle for safety, still snap sometimes and are very dangerous. A strap on the other hand, is made to stretch and can be safely used to pull in that manner. It also isn't quite as dangerous if it snaps. Just make sure to not use straps with metal hooks or they can become dangerous projectiles in the event of a failure.
@eianwahgener76238 жыл бұрын
yeah i was like wtf.. why are you driving the porsche while using the winch.. obviously they don't know about offroad driving, at all. I dunno, i find it pretty reasonable a 490hp @ 5200 and 530ftlb @ 2750 can do most things off road with a dual range t-case... putting down 530ftlb with wheels spinning 10mph is damn useful in those situations.. and heck he just had BFG KO's... imagine if it had TSL's or something along that line.. I would suggest never use your winch as a tow cable for a couple of important reasons. The bearings in the winch are not designed to take shock loads, which are unavoidable in towing, and the winch cable will bite in between the other wraps where you have it spooled out to, which damages your winch cable and can leave it unable to spool out when you need it. Even if it does spool out, you've created a weak spot that might lead to a cable snapping and hurting somebody. I always appreciate these videos as it's interesting to see the capability of a street-centric vehicle. With the traction control, I was impressed what it could do, but that was a lot of beating for such a nice rig. I love the sound of that V8!

Also I'm not sure why a jeep owner like myself would be upset... About anything in this video actually... Jeep got stuck in mud, who cares??? That's part of offroading... Jeep snapped a drive shaft... So what??? Could have been damaged or old.. Again part of offroading...

So, to be fair, I travel through similar roads, grades and mud (other than where the guy was stuck and the really big hill they cayenne couldn't pull off) basically every time I go camping. I've got a stock Sahara and my buddies all have 4x4s that are basically unmodified and we do all this type of stuff just to get to our campsite. Didn't realize anyone in the world considered most of this a challenge. TBH though I'd probably be pretty nervous about that big hill though, thats probably pushing it a bit for my comfort level, but then again if I were close to civilization when I went I might play it a bit more risky! Great video though, was really nice to see the Jeep guys guiding another fellow off road enthusiast through some of the tricky bits. Keep on keepin' on!

Went to El Salvador recently and my buddy owns a Cayenne S first generation. It can definitely go off roading in some of the worse conditions. It's a very impressive vehicle. Some days I wish I didn't sell my Cayenne Turbo.

I'm a diehard Jeeper, but have a passion for Porsche's also. This was an awesome showing of the Cayenne's abilities offroad! I would have it out there also if I had one, and you've definitely sold me on it. This shouldn't be called "versus" by any means. Do your comparison against that stock Cayenne and a stock Rubicon or maybe a few Cayenne's (modified and stock) and this Jeep club. But, also do ALL obstacles if you're going to compare. Great video nonetheless! Awesome quality in 1080!

Are you kidding? The music was great. I always listen to metal while off-roading. The two go hand-in-hand. If you aren't listening to metal while hitting up the rock crawl or the mud pit, you are just wasting your time.

what makes a jeep a jeep, is the aftermarket. the platform is awesome, but when you break factory parts the aftermarket takes really good care of you, and jeeps are really simple to work on. The Porshe has some ability, but obviously it wasn't built to off road because it very difficult and expensive to fix broken factory parts. and the offroad aftermarket don't really exist for that vehicle. fun to watch one going thru real obstacles tho.
@modernmuscle91197 жыл бұрын
I have to say as a Jeeper... I didn't see anything that was really a challenge. I thought we were going to see real technical Jeep trails that no way the Cayenne could go through. Instead all we got was some groomed trails with low approach angles. Almost any car could go through what they chose to test little disappointing. Next time make it challenging, have the Porsche cross the same mud bog the red Jeep was stuck in and see the results. Make it climb a set of rocks that actually require articulation not just a wheel lifting off the ground 2 inches. My wifes Armada with 2 wheel drive could make every single one of those obstacles easily.

I agree. I have stumbled on tougher trails in backwoods here in North Carolina that were more difficult that whats in this video, and I didn't struggle at all with my '95 wrangler. These guys think they are "even" with Jeeps, either they are delusional or extremely inexperienced.

Love my Cayenne Turbo. If you get one to off road look for the rare anti sway bar disconnect option. I don't have it but if I did it again I'd look for that disconnect. Ample coolers make it a good self leveling tractor for up to 4 ton trailers. Overall this is a Swiss Army knife, good at every thing. If we still had rum runners they'd be driving Cayennes.

This is not what your parents intended when they set up your trust fund. Anyhow the Jeep has a 3.6L V6, don't get too proud beating it in a drag race, also at a quarter of the price, the Porsche should be leagues above the Jeep, and it's not. For $100K you should see the Jeep I could build.
@gvr457818 жыл бұрын
LOL, I love how unfounded in information this comment is, if you knew anything about Porsche they depreciate bad. This is a first gen Cayenne Turbo you can pick these up all day for $12,000 search cars.com you'll see dozens of them for this price. The Porsche is leagues above the Jeep, if you soul purpose is rock crawling go for a jeep, if you have any admiration to do anything else the Cayenne Turbo is a rocket in a straight line and can go around a track like a sports car. So basically you have a SUV that can do anything, including rock crawling as they show here, that is the pure definition of Leagues above when referring to an SUV like this as the Jeep cant do anything else.
@johnappice46197 жыл бұрын
but all the first gen cayenne aren't in any shape to go off roading too beat up or too many miles not worth the build in the long run.

Ths is no Jeep or Range Rover. Its a sports car company making a SUV that people think are safer because it sits up right more. Just because 1 jeep breaks doing something and you were able to clear means nothing. You were purposely avoiding some obstacles. Give me a Jeep or Range Rover any day.
@davidwatsonjr118 жыл бұрын
Torpedomtb why didn't they send the Porsche through the same mud the jeep got stuck in? And the only way a Dana axle broke on that small obstacle is if it were already fractured.
@krisjones748 жыл бұрын
Torpedomtb A Jeep like that one is a real off road vehicle, while Porche SUVs are luxury cars with some off-road capabilities. However, Jeeps are very badly made cars, thanks, at least in part to the general inability of their parent company Chrysler to properly build cars. The only way they could be worse is if Chrysler was purchased by Fia.... oh wait...
@Torpedomtb8 жыл бұрын
I am not questioning your comments. As anything that has broken on my jeep was due to cost cutting measures. Use of plastic parts vs metal ones. We own a Jeep Liberty and really that has been the only beef with it. It is quite capable offroad for as radical as I want to subject it to. We got it with the more capable 4x4 system comparable to the Wrangler 4x4 system. I could upgrade to air lockers and serious tires but it is my wife's daily and it has only seen offroad about 4 times in 10 years. So considering getting rid of it and getting a Suburu.

Three things would make a huge difference for the Porsche: 1) If the Porsche had a little more ground clearance 2) more aggressive tread 3) and lastly, the driver didnt hesitate in certain areas due to preventing damage to the sides of his expensive car This would be a all new ball game for the Porsche that did pretty well as equipped
