The wave greeting - in the 1980s I drove flatbed lumber trucks for a building supply company on Long Island. Back then, practically every town on LI had at least one lumber company or building supply outfit. Whenever i would driving along Sunrise Highway or Montauk Highway, or whatever, every single time I would encounter a lumber truck from one of the other companies, we would always wave to each other. It was a fellowship, a brotherhood, of flatbed lumber haulers. Long Island Building Supply waving to Whitbread Lumber waving to Nassau-Suffolk Lumber waving to Riverhead Building Supply and on and on. Recently, I, driving a vintage Pontiac Sunbird convertible exchanged waves with the driver of a Pontiac GTO convertible. It's all about the brotherhood.

We had jeeps in the 80's and 90's and never saw a special wave or waves for Jeep drivers. I'm pretty sure this only began within the last 20 years.

Very similar to the "motorcycle wave" (try it with a guy on a scooter, they won't return the wave, they don't know anything). And it probably started in a similar way.. The first biker gangs were essentially post-war veteran's clubs

There's also a Holden GM import wave lol. I have a G8 and get waves from GTOs, Chevy SS, and other G8s. Also had people roll down the window and chat at lights about the cars.

I'm probably one of the few, but as a Jeep owner, I hate this duck thing. I can't take Jeep people seriously when I see all those ducks all over their Jeeps. I love the wave, but that's non existant in my area. I wave and get nothing back, but they all have those stupid ducks lined up on their dash. Thankfully I've never been ducked. My guess is because my 06 TJ Rubicon doesn't spend any time in a mall parking lot. I drive it on nice days to work, but mostly if I'm diving it I'm heading to an offroad park.

1 Interesting thing I've noticed about Jeep owners, they aren't in a hurry. I sit in the right lane, going 55 MPH on the interstate to hypermile, everyone passes, and usually the only people who decide to stay behind are Jeep's. They must be there just for the ride. (:
@bwofficial17764 ай бұрын
My Jeep is gearing-limited to 55MPH and doesn't have a rev limiter. If for some reason I accidentally end up on the highway, which despite my best efforts has happened, I'll sit there at 54 until the next exit.

I've owned 3 CJs, and I would always do the steering wheel wave to other Jeep owners on the road, and would always get a wave back. This was the 90s, so way before the ducks.

The Toyota FJ cruiser has something similar, plus are often included by Jeep Owners for a wave. The FJ "wave" I've seen in the flashing of the mirror lights in the same vein. Could be just an Alaska thing though.

Chrysler bought AMC because they wanted Jeep. Chrysler is now FiatChrysler owned by Stellantis and their quality has downhill with the Italian flare that American's don't want

That’s true. I bought my Jeep despite the Fiat connection, not because of it. And I don’t even live that far from Italy. Only Italians love Fiats. So far, I am quite satisfied with my Compass, though.

I think Jeep owners don’t usually acknowledge anything that’s not a wrangler. Aka Renegade, Cherokee and yes Gladiator. If it’s not a wrangler, it’s not deserving of a Jeep Wave or Ducks. But I wouldn’t know. I get all my info from my Jeep Friend. Personally I’m more of a Miata guy 😌

In the Philippines, after World War II, there were large numbers of surplus military Jeeps. So, of course, Filipino ingenuity crafted the "Jeepney", which became the standard of transportation for the masses. Think a Jeep expanded to become a sort of a bus. Individual Jeepney owner-drivers individualized their vehicles with paint jobs and graphics. There are still many on the roads here, but unfortunately the government is supporting drivers' collectives that replace the traditional Jeepneys with Chinese EVs or Japanese modern diesel vans that do the same job that Jeepneys always did, but without the same character. It's sad. Also, modern Jeeps are ranked lowly for reliability. As an Aussie married to a Filipina grandmother here in Mindanao Philippines, I love the old style Jeepneys.

6:37, I'm so glad you ducked an XJ, there is some kind of divide between Wrangler Jeep owners and XJ Jeep owners, and any other older Jeep that's not a Wrangler style, most don't like each other so they don't generally duck them, and some XJ owners don't even like the idea of ducking, but I like to do it because I own an XJ and I think it's a nice thing to do.
