In this video, I replace the spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, fuel injectors, and added heat shields. The heat shields resolved my vapor lock and heat soak issues starting the engine when hot. I gained more acceleration and power while shifting from 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears and now able to reach highway speeds much faster. Highly recommend performing this full tune up on your Jeep.

Be sure to read if your spark plugs require anti-seize lube. Mine stated it was "detrimental". Just a FYI.... Thanks for the video!

Great video. Going to do plugs, wires, and cap this weekend. Not sure if I should do fuel injectors. Everything in my 99 is original but only has 25k miles on it. I'm thinking that I might as well replace due to age. Thoughts, anyone?
@franksgarage13
@franksgarage13 Жыл бұрын
Only 25k miles is extremely rare. Wow that’s crazy. I think it should be fine, but test drive the new parts and see how it feels on the highway

How has the tune up held up over the year? Would you do anything differently? Been wanting to do this for a while but hearing on forums that the fuel injectors dont help much with performance or MPGs, so would you say it's worth after a year?

Thanks for your video. Mine is making that same ticking (kind of diesel sound) as yours at the start of the video. Any idea what that is? Did you fix that?
@franksgarage13
@franksgarage13 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. I believe that ticking is the lifters. That noise will likely stay unless you do a rebuild, but I have seen and heard of these 4.0 motors lasting with very high mileage. I’m currently at 220,000 miles.

I’m getting an 04 Wrangler 4.0 and it’s seems impossible to find spark plug wires and a distributor cap for anything after a 99 even though it says it’ll fit a TJ It says it’s not compatible with an 04. I’m decent with cars but new to the Jeep game is there something I’m missing here? I want to do a full tune up when I get it soon but can’t find any parts for the 04

The coil pack is the little black cube that sits on top of your spark plugs. You'll hear them called coils, coil packs, ignition coils, etc. Older TJs like mine only have one coil pack that distributes (via the distributor) voltage to the plugs via spark plug wires. Later models like yours have three coil packs integrated into a single rail that mounts directly to the plugs to provide voltage without the need for spark plug cables or a distributor

@@franksgarage13 thanks for clearing that up man and thanks for the quick reply. I thought I was just going insane. I don’t have the jeep yet so I couldn’t just go outside and take a peek but I’m planning to do a full tune up and was trying to throw stuff in my cart early. I’m excited to finally get my hands on a TJ it’s been my dream car for 16 years now

Is the Jeep running cooler with the heat shield?
@franksgarage13
@franksgarage13 Жыл бұрын
It started running cooler when I replaced the radiator and thermostat the previous year. The head shield fixes my vapor lock where I would get slow cranking starts after it was hot. Now it starts right up every time no matter how hot the engine. Now the fuel in the fuel line and injectors is cooler
