I've been reading many negative reviews of Seicane head units? It's been 4 years Dex. I'm about to drop some cash on a unit with a brand name vs. this one. I binged your videos today and this might be what I spend money on. Brand name or this? Be honest and thanks for the top-notch production value to your videos. I know what kind of time it takes to make these videos and it is very much appreciated.

Your very welcome. For a few hundred bucks, this is a good upgrade. The software is great for android users and it’s average for iPhone users. It’s definitely an upgrade from the tiny U-Connect screen but it does have its flaws. It can be slow/glitchy, not perfect for iPhones, too many unnecessary apps. Hope that helps!

Android enjoyed an 87 percent share of the global market in 2019, while Apple's iOS holds a mere 13 percent. Loka around you, not everyone is an apple fanboi. Android is not an CON for me. BTW -- excellent review! I plan on buying this head unit. Please keep videos coming.

This is quite interesting. I wonder if there are more modern options. This is running an old version of Android. Android vs iOS is like starting a war in the comments section. I've worked on development in both operating systems and my conclusion is: it doesn't matter what I think lol. Use what you like. 😂 😂

I decided to research the company first and it seems like they are still a young upstart company w less than desirable support, hearing some apps were pirated, and the duty issue makes me uneasy. bought one for my 2012 jk, there is no sd card reader just a slot! had to pull dash back out to retrieve sd card. it will play iso dvd files off flash drive with a converter program Brorsoft dvd ripper! over all well worth 500 bucks! thanks for the review, i hav watched all of them

One thing you failed to mention is audio quality. I'm a bit of an audiophile. I would to know how it sounds. Also, did you replace the stock speaker? My next big upgrade is audio. Leaning toward Kenwood right now. and replacing all 4 speakers with polypropylene cones. But alas 9k for windows and 4K for landing to the house is a buzzkill.

Having a pure android platform is awsome.. Prospect of installing smartthings to control my home, check emails, personal banking, and various 3rd party apps from my car on this huge screen seems awsome.. then it raises a serious security issue. Most people will be driving w top down all summer.. no real reset lockout code.. etc. If someone can steal it and power it up, a serious hacker can easily hack your entry passcode and get all your info.

I'm confused what you mean by having to connect the head unit to Wifi or a hotspot to use the internet. So does that mean every time I want to use google on it, I would first have to connect it to my phone's personal hotspot?

Well Dex, I’m afraid you let me down. If this is the seicane unit, mine is crap. It looks awesome but it freezes up, won’t run sound thru my phone calls so my hands free doesn’t work. The customer service is problematic with time difference but that’s expected, however their only answer was to download an update of which the head unit will not read...so no update for me. Waiting for a refund but only after they receive it via snail mail.

The audio quality is pretty awful in the new unit. I thought it would be at least better than the stock hu. I installed JBL speakers in the front and rear about a month ago so I know its not the speakers. Could it be I need an amp? Currently I do not have one installed, how is audio quality on yours and do you have an amp?? Thanks

Are you playing through bluetooth? The bluetooth is terrible but playing sound directly from the unit is good.

Matt Kersten yeah I found that Bluetooth is absolute ass but even with Spotify downloaded music with extreme quality has a slight white noise. Almost like static. I read it is because of the radio antenna interfering with it. I'm going to try to unplug it and see if that does anything

Didn't the GPS cable that you plugged into the back of the unit have a big pod on the end of it with 3M tape on the back? How were you able to get the pod at the end of the GPS wire up through the driver's side A pillar? I just bought this unit and am a little confused with that.

I ran the GPS up the A pillar behind the plastic trim and left it at the height point away from any of the metal. Hope that helps!

Read a testimony from a buyer in Canada who said that they were hit with a $200 Bill for duty tax long after he purchased a unit. Anthony Ochoa viper makes a great alarm system and you can add a "proximity sensor" or a motion detector (that works with and plugs into the alarm) so when the doors and top are off you still have security.

How long does this radio take to start up? I heard that it sits there displaying "android" for a while, and that it takes like 30 seconds to start up. That seems like a while to me, is that true?

there should be a setting that put the until on sleep mode that will have an instant wakeup... some until you can have it on sleep for 24 hours before it shut itself off, if it shut itself off a cold boot would be about 20 to 30 second if you got a quad core cpu unit with 1 gb of ram btw if you are plannning to buy an android unit today look for the one that have an octa core cpu 2 gb of ram and 32 gb of memory

My AM channels don't work. I have been going back and forth with the China company for 3 weeks. There were two antenna looking plugs (one white and one brownish/green color). I hooked up the white one. Would that have anything to do with my AM channels?

@AdventureDex You should make your reviews more fact based and check your statements. Android is the #1 operating system in the world, Microsoft 2nd and Apple a far 3rd (per StatCounter) For mobile OS specifically Android has 85% of market share per IDC, Apple only 14.7% for Q1 2017. So this company selecting Android was smart as they lead the market world wide and will serve a massively wider customer base. Android should be a positive for your review and saying Apple is more popular is just statically way wrong.

AdventureDex i never disconnnectdd uconnect. Lol. So every time i would try to make a call or answer a call. It would switch to uconnect and i would have to switch it back. Thank you

No way is that android 6.0.1. If it is, they downgraded the launcher. put nova or apex launcher on it.

Bo Sayles I read in a testimony from a buyer who tried to update an app which it came with (I don't recall the name). It failed, so he called the app company and they told him it was pirated.

STG Royal that makes sense. If you get one of these, or any of these android radios you gotta have root access. Seems they are kinda hacked together. Not a bad thing in my opinion. But theres gonna be issues. And unless you have a firm understanding of android, you probably shouldn't be doing a review. Anyway, Im still getting one, not this one. One with a solid update repo. there is nothing for this radio, some help on XDA, but thats it.

Bo Sayles The idea and concept is amazing. I watched this really hoping this to be legit. Loved the idea of a full android tablet integrated w the jeep stepping in as a nav/radio. Possibilities seemed endless. Did a lot of research on the company and am not convinced anymore. Made in Shenzen China doesn't scare me anymore as many good products come from there. However the testimonies from past buyers weren't good. Poor customer service, really bad and inconvenient return or exchange stories, pirated apps and the list goes on.. the part that turned me off was the duty issue. Google seicane return policy and someone did a full investigation on this co, and it clearly states buyer is responsible for duty after purchase. A buyer in Canada said he got slapped w a $200 duty bill long after he bought this. I'd stay away from Chinese upstarts for now. I'm paying a bit more and buying a pioneer 8200nex.
